The white flecks on your car sound like some form of contamination that has got into the surface of the paintwork (or maybe gloss paint from someone redecorating
). Contamination of this sort is quite common especially in industrial areas or manufacturing areas. It is usually caused by emmisions from smoke stacks/chimmneys. If you suspect that it is this, then it can be quite costly to remedy (try and get the company whose emmission that is responsible to pay for the work).
I know that for a while, some areas around Ellesmere port had fallout from a variety of sources (including one car manufacturing plant) that caused many thousands of cars to be damaged (including mine).
This is just a possibility, but I hope this helps anyone else who has reason to believe that something has contaminated the paint on their car.

Hi B Kar,
Just read through the Marks advice documents on the Wax Wizzard web site and he mentions some clay stuff. My car had to be coated in this clay putty to remove the contamination. Sounds like Marks on the ball though

Thanks very much for comming down. Superb job.
For other peoples reference, I bought a starter kit shortly after receiving my car because I just couldnt get it to look new. When it was all cleaned and polished I noticed the white spots which I thought were part of the paintwork but was actually something that looked like overspray. These were all over the car.
I thought I would ask Wizard Wax as they would probably know what to do. They did know but they did something better than just tell me. Mark came and showed me (actually he did 80% of the work) how to remove them without using harsh solvents or abrasive mixtures. He used a clay pad and some liquid that lets the clay pad glide easily - this part of their less well known product range.
My car was actually new and I contemplating sending it back but the problem is now solved.
When Mark was here I also got to see some of Wax Wizards other new products. Although you tend to hear about the specialist waxes they have lots of products for all budgets.
Its refreshing to see a company where the people actually care about what they sale and have a superb level of service.
I also saw how effortless waxing CAN be. I thought it was easy anyhow but, like a lot of people, I was putting to much stuff on unnecessarily and making more work for myself. I can see why people that know what they are doing make the WW products last for years.
For those of you who still think their stuff expensive, WW have cheaper alternatives with less wax (still as much or more than the competition).
I was a turtle wax kind of a guy, washed my car with fairy liquid (my new car only twice fortunantly). I picked up this thread and gave it a shot. Money sensibly spent. I can actually hose the car and flies fall off the bodywork (flies are still a nuisance on the windscreen mind you as the it isnt protected the same way the body is).
I am one very very happy punter.
