At the office, the guy who I shared an office with mentioned to me I should look at the Sky News website, I snapped something to say something like "I'm busy". 30secs curiosty took over and no work was done that afternoon after we saw had happened.... Phone home to tell my folks and a few mates. Evening spent watching tv in disbelief.

I was at work when we found out. At first I presumed it was a light aircraft that had crashed. Later, when I finally saw the pictures I realised the horrible truth about what had happened.

The company I work for had it's New York headquarters in the WTC and we lost a lot of colleagues as a result.

DP.

I had a meeting in Leicester in the morning and was just pulling up at my house when the news broke. Got inside and turned on the TV. Was posting on that original thread and watching the TV in disbelief!

I rang my Mum who doesn't listen to the radio or watch telly during the day and just told her to turn the TV on. She asked why, and I said, JUST TURN THE TELLY ON!

She said something about America being a target and it only being a matter of time, but it all washed over me. All I could think about was the people, especially those who were jumping.

This week has brought it all back. It was horrible. Even dreamt about it last night! Very sad

I was in a bar in Bangkok when the owner got our attention then pointed towards his TV set behind the bar. Great, we thought, he's showing us his favourite movie about a burning WTC have to politely watch it to humour him. It's only when he changed channels and the same pictures were on all the news channels that the penny dropped

It was quite surreal to watch an event that would obviously change the world so much

I was in Sydney, Australia with a flight home booked for the following day. BA were cool, but that was the worst flight I've ever endured.

I was in Ripon on a TA Sergeants course. That day we were doing Nuclear Biological Chemical warfare training. The moment I found out we were in the middle of a degradation appreciation exercise - pulling a 3/4 tonne land rover along in a car park. Rather difficult to concentrate on anything at the time. I was already pissed off at having to do the exercise as I'm an instructor in NBC and know all about degradation.

We eventually finished at about 4.00pm and, after cleaning up, went straight to the Sergeants mess and stayed glued to the TV for hours.

The ironic thing was, at the time, I worked for a Reuters/Dow Jones company, and, if I'd been in the office, would have seen everything happening live. The most newsworthy thing to happen on a work day since I started in '95 and I had to be away from office.

I was off sick and was chatting to some people in a netgoth chat room. One of the people we were talking to was in the second tower. They were going to evacuate but were told to stay put.

That was the last we heard from them.

Didn't know them but makes you think how easy it could have been someone you really knew well.

I was on a cliff top in Cornwall, my mate text'd me and said a plane had crashed in the states.

I remember replying that the yanks might stop funding the IRA now, I regret that, but only a little

Was sleeping after a night shift and woke up in the afternoon. Checked my PC and a work mate told me via msn messenger to check the news. Saw a plane had crashed and then watched it all unfold as the 2nd plane hit. Shocked to say the least. Definetely the worst civilian incident I have witnessed so far in my life.

I was at the office. We had a manager visiting from the Washington office. Turns out he had friends in the WTC and Fire Dept in NY. He found out from myself & colleagues - we saw the 2nd plane hit on TV in the canteen.

Was at work, due to fly to Boston the follwong day.

Got an email from a friend along the lines of "Who's flying planes into the World Trade Centre?". I replied along the lines of "Eh? Is this some kind of sick joke?"

A few more emails, and a few minutes later the news became slightly clearer, but more unbelievable. News continued to drip in through via email and phone for the remainder of the afternoon.
Remember listening to the radio on the way home...........

Red face

I came back after getting some guages installed. My mum told me a terrorist bomb exploded in NY. I switched on Skynews wondered how on earth did the bomb find its way just above the centre of the World Trade centre. The News later repeated the clips of the plane crash and I was totally SHOCKED!

I was in bed then my mother rang and woke me to tell me to get the tv on. I only found out today that a relative of mine here in the uk had a mate who was on the phone in their office. He was talking to his wife who worked on the 90th floor(I think)in the tower just before the 2nd plane struck. Apparently they were told to remain calm and stay in their seats after the 1st strick. He told her to just trust him and not to listen to anyone else and to get up and walk to the elevator and get out of the building ASAP. She did and everyone on her floor and a few surrounding levels died some time later. I was really shocked when my brother in law told me that earlier.

I read it on ScoobyNet, just after the second plane had hit. We all rushed into the lounge to watch it on tv and stayed there in utter disbelief until the evening.

Exclamation

Was sitting in the dealing room at out company. First we heard was when some of the guys on the phone to our NY office (WTC, 80th floor) were cut off, and Reuters/CNN feed kicked in on the monitors showing the hole in the side of the building.

I had the unenviable pleasure of posting about it first to the email forum I was chatting on at the time. My initial post was along the lines of "Some plonker's crashed a cessna into one of the WTC towers".

Our office was evacuated at about 3:30pm, as they were worried that there might be attacks on the City of London. I remember sitting on the train home, receiving text messages from mates, saying "2nd building collapsed", "pentagon attacked", "car bomb outside US state dept" and so on.

Very scary.

We got a call to put our building on alert (as all government buildings were at the time), we then spent the afternoon trying to find out what was going on as the internet had virtually stopped working...the only news website we could get was "the Sun"

Definatly the worst thing was seeing people jump...almost as bad was finding out there was another staircase no-one knew about that they could have used...and the firemen Not forgetting the brave guys who brought the 4th plane down in a field

Only realised how massive it was when my Dad (who does something no-one knows anything about in the MOD) disappeared to some secret UK place for the coming weeks...he's been away quite alot recently as well..

I was on a plane on my way back from New York! Seriously I flew out of JFK airport about 2am. Got into Paris next morning, but was told about any of it until I arrived back in the UK - had a full police interview and everything,

Beleive me, when youve been in New York for a week and then come home to find the twin towers have been crashed into its a very bizarre feeling.

Needless to say my phone was going crazy and emails flooding in.

andy

heres a pic I took the morning before:
