I had a huge row in the office as I said i would not be having 2 mins silence for 9/11. Uproar ensued, and not just because we have an American in the office. I have no connection to 9/11 and knew nobody that died, so it'd didnt actually touch me. Yeah it was very sad but I dont feel people need to have a public 2 mins silence to advertise their sincerity.

What really gets me annoyed is that the Americans themselves are using 9/11 as an excuse to bomb Iraq and cause even more problems in the middle east - that is disgusting.

Finally when I see an American give 2 mins silence for any IRA victim, or Palestinian child murdered by Israeli soldiers, then I may have more sympathy for them.

Wink

What really gets me is that everyone keeps referring to the 9th of November, and I've no idea what the hell they're talking about.

At the time it touched me and for a few weeks after my old boss was American and his home town lost 70 people. Last night I travelled home with a colleague who had left the Marriot hotel in one of the Towers about an hour before the crashes.

But the press and TV coverage was total overkill. So for a little perspective here, 2,800 people died in the World Trade Centre and two very big famous buildings collapsed BUT:

Millions die in Africa every year.
Hundreds of innocents have been killed by the IRA and Loyalists
Thousands died in the Battle of the Somme
Millions of Jews were murdered by Hitler and Co.
Thousands died in the ethnic cleansing of the former Yugoslavia
Hundreds of innocent Afghans died in the aftermath of 9-11
Thousands of innocents WILL die when the USA attack Iraq

At the end of the day the Americans were complacent, from memory they have suffered three acts of terrorism, the first funnily enough the world trade centre, the Oklahoma bomb and the world trade centre again. Add to this the fact that their intelligence service knew of the threat and said nothing......

I am aware of the dangers of terrorism, and I'd like to say a special thanks to USA for their funding of the IRA for the following days that sit specially in my mind:

The day of the London Bridge bomb when the only reason I wasn't in the Station was my train was running 4 minutes late.

The day my office block in Fenchurch Street was surrounded by armed police and blue and white tape and we were directed into the stair wells because that was the safest place to be.

Before anyone goes off on me, what happened was a tradgedy, but the last 100 years (which is still in some peoples life time), have been full of human tradgedy, often on much larger scales, but the coverage they get pale into insignificance when put aside yesterdays saturation coverage.

No offense meant to anyone and my prayers are with EVERYONE who has died as a result of acts of terrorism.

What bugs me is the fact the radio stations always play Robbie Williams after any moments silence.

Completley agree that its been overkill by the media again.
