Hi all,
Just to clarify a couple of things:
- email checking was enabled manually
- updates run weekly
Something just went badly wrong and the worm got through... my system is completely *&^%!
Thanks for the pointers, and generally I don't open attachments unless i recognise the sender.. now I won't be openning attachments unless I've asked for them![](http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/mad.gif)
Thanks again to all, Alex

WREXY right click on the icon. Then click properties, then find target. Your shortcut is confused.
If that doesnt work, go to My computer then dial up networking, you should see a connection with oneway on it or similar, then left click once on the icon, then right click and select copy. Then exit to your desktop and right click, then choose paste. Hey presto a new shortcut!!!

I received the virus from somebody I did know. It got into his computer and fired itself off at all the names in his address book. I did a manual scan before I opened the attachment, but it still got through as I hadnt updated for a week and couldnt anyway as it was costing me 60 pence a minute on my mobile running at 14400bps.
Anyway, my system is running ok, no probs

Sircam is one of the nastiest viruses I've come across. We had an infection here, and it went undetected. The thing that miffed me was that we did have the latest updates from symantec, but it was not until last week, AFTER, we'd run the special tool to remove sircam that it started picking up sircam and killing it.
My major problem is that it sends out potentially sensitive data, which is a big problem.
Thankfully I'm on a mac so I can't get infected, but I can unfortunatley still spread the virus if I forward an infected message to a PC user, which I won't.
grrr, som student thinking they are clever needs a serious kicking over this one.

Markus,
I'm just curious, did you do a manual virus scan and did Norton fail to pick it up even though you had updated? Or did you only realise that you had the virus after you used the tool to remove Sircam?
WREXY.

WREXY,
We knew beforehand that we had sircam, which is why we were miffed that when either auto or manual scan was done, with latest norton update, it did not pick it up. We then ran fixsirc to delete sircam, and then a machine got reinfected, but the weird thing is that this time norton DID pick up sircam and kill it. weired indeed.

<sigh> I think I've sorted it, it was strange, I got a couple of "Mail delivery failed" messages and the address they had come from weren't in my address book and most of them I didn't even recognise?! :confussed:
The time wasters who make these need to be strung up and shot!
