Lol at Bravo.

Llamas eat chickens!!
especially the famed "chicken-eating Llama of old Mexico"

If foxes were left to their own devices, they might start
fighting each other for territory, and keep their numbers down all by themselves!!!

Just a thought....

Where are the official statistics that show that the vast majority want fox hunting banned? I've always thought it was a vocal minority that wanted it banned.

I don't mind if fox hunting is banned because of the cruelty issue (despite the fact that other methods are potentially more cruel) but it would annoy me if people just want it banned - and succeed - because they perceive it as something that "toffs" do.

Also, on the cruelty issue, nature is cruel. Every second, millions of animals become prey for predators - who are generally not concerned about a quick death for their prey.

I can see the argument about people wanting to ban fox hunting because the hunters enjoy the chase and the kill (if/when it happens), but what if I "enjoy" shooting foxes. Should shooting them be banned also. What if I "enjoy" deliberately wounding them rather than a kill shot...

Sorry for regressing this thread back on track

So, that makes it ok then???????????????????????????????????

By that same token - monkeys mate with every female in season, so I will wander the streets and have sex with any woman I care to!!?? nice thought but it aint going to happen is it?

Just because nature is cruel doesnt excuse humans from being cruel!!

Why not drag hunt?? I fail to see the reason behind hunting another animal down until its ripped to pieces?? Its got NOTHING to do with class - its got everything to do with acting in a civilised way!!

No, Pete it doesn't make it OK. I'm just putting into perspective that many many cruel things happen in nature and a surprising amount of energy is put into stopping the cruelty to a few foxes.

I wouldn't suggest a man of your age tries to mate with every woman in the street, maybe just 1 or 2 a day...

As someone said before - the pros and the antis will never agree and it is just a matter of time before a large enough noise is made and hunting is banned, regardless of the arguments either side put forward or any consequences. Ho hum.

foxs are a cruel evil creature , if you antis and townies worked in the farms you would see the destruction a fox can do i have seen 20 chickens slaughtered by a single fox. yet it eats none of them, it kills new born lambs just for fun, please look at both sides of the fence and you will see that the country and this board will never agree , yes for you antis the fox looks cute on tv but how would you feel if it got into your houses and killed your cats and dogs and other pets you would want a payback ! how many of you have actually seen at close hand the destruction a fox can do?

Lordharding
most people recognise that foxes do a lot of damage, it is how they are got rid of that is the issue here, chasing them around on horses using hounds is hardly kind, almost on a par with what you describe above, the hunters do not eat the fox they just chase it down and kill it fun!

Is that really the best way to control the fox population, really is it???

I have the solution... we need to take these foxes into care, put them on a state funded rehab programme and worok with them to get rid of their chicken rage....

Still can't believe you lot are ignoring the badgers...look at their eyes..they will take over the world...you may laugh but you won't be after the day of badgeination....

hmm maybe this cider is stronger then I thought

maybe - but how to kill them humanely is under discussion

Chasing them down and digging them up so the dogs can rip them to pieces is hardly sport is it old chum??

No, this thread is about you calling hunters barbaric / savage and asking them to justify themselves. If it were about how best to get rid of foxes it would be much more constructive, as that too is their goal.

Question

Their goal, Sir - is to rip an animal to shreds in the name of fun/sport/culling!!! Either way you read it it should be stopped forthwith - no-one has answered the simple question of why not drag hunt where no animal gets killed??

Come on Pete. You are doing yourself a disservice.
All hunts people are not there for the kill. Some are. Some are there for the opportunity to ride their horses. Some hate riding, but like to be out in the country side. There are few of them there to do a job - pest control. Not unlike your job is it?
EDIT: In the spirit of pedantry that this thread has nurtured, I will add this smilie: just incase you thought I was accusing you of riding a horse for a living.

If you really believe that the whole hunt can keep up, you are living in a fantasy. Most are there for the ****s and giggles of riding a horse across land that is otherwise inaccessible. Not unlike you tearing across the land in your Impreza, however because of progress they are no longer allowed to enjoy the tradition of riding a horse across the land.

Little beknown to MrDeference I ride quite well, so does my wife and daughter ................ we 'hack out' every week at least 3 times - never felt the need to hunt something down to get pleasure from the ride?????? Strange argument?? You cant ride and enjoy a horse ride unless you are riding an animal down with hounds with the express purpose of ripping it to bits?? Sorry - you will NEVER convince me of that!!

I am NOT a townie either!!

The farmer gets a good deal as he has one less fox but the hunters do it purely for fun and to see a wild animal be shredded to pieces.
I thought I would frame that for the record. "The farmer gets a good deal". Indeed. He is the one who's land is being rode over, he is the one that asks the hunt to ride on his land. He has a form of pest control. It doesn't matter how inefficient it is - the hunt enjoys wasting their time.
The majority of hunters do categorically not do it to see an animal shredded. They enjoy horses, and they get to ride them in open countryside.
I can see why you are so vehermently against it now - you believe that all riders are all blood thirsty animal torturers. Look again.

The thing of this thread of this. You will never convince me that what they are doing is wrong - I really don't care. But I do know that criminalising them for pest control is unbelievably naieve.

Yes I have been drinking - and here are some more words for you:-

In INDIA there is a tiger that is a pest to a village, the locals want to kill it - the very same 'hooorah henries' who hunt down foxes are up in arms about it - 'Oh, NO you beastly people do NOT kill that Tiger!!!!!'

When that same Tiger has killed your Wife, Aunty, Father and Children its hard to listen to the argument that it should be saved - surely that is MORE of a pest that a Fox that kills 5 chickens?????? OR would you have the Tiger killed also???

Pete

Why is it then they cheer and clap when the fox is dead with blood stained hounds in a frenzy tearing the carcass into tiny pieces?
I don't know. Adrenaline? Like putting stringing together some nice road in the Impreza... you have been vigerously exercising and getting high on the adrenaline of riding your horse flat out through the countryside, and it finishes. What are you going to do? You don't start whooping when you have taken a corner well in third, you do it when you stop at the end of the blat.
Go back to that horse riding school and find out why Peter enjoys going for a hack.

a serious question.. those that are opposed to fox hunting..

how do you view boxing and NHB (no holds barred) fighting...

I guess you are going to say that as they are humans they have a choice...but do they? and is it so different that people pay to see two guys/girls beat the **** out of each other...do they watch it for the skill or possibility of blood?

Look at the chaos caused by rubber neckers on the Mway when there is an accident..it is an unpleasent facet of what we are that there is an attraction to the violent and macabre..not in all but more then most would admit...

can I suggest we kill this thread soon...in a humane way!

Is it more of a pest? Not to me. Would I have it killed? Let me say again: I DON'T CARE. If it serves them to kill it, who am I to intervene?
You see where I am coming from yet?
EDIT: OK. If your is my wife, auny father or child yes I would have it killed. I would also kill a fox that ate my chickens. Supposing some fictitious circumstances on me that are physically impossible are falacious.

Alas, I too, have been drinking. Anyways, bed before 12 is a cop out.

It strikes me, drunk as I am, that no one is going to be swayed by anything written on this thread. These ideas are formed well before adulthood (unless you are so insular you never considered them before).

So, what is the reason for this discourse. It is this: the government carry out the most politically expedient course. If a vocal group of any persuasion can shout loudly enough, they will convince the government that they hold the majority opinion. The entire demo that started this thread is designed to provide the countryside alliance with a voice. The moral discussion is totally irrelevant to any decision ever made by the government.
