Impreza Turbo for £3700

Only because they are all the most frequently imported vehicles you fool...!!
If you have a BIMTA certificate like mine then it means the car is above board and legal... and there are a number of other checks people make before buying....
What do you mean imports are only made to last 3 years, what if the import scoob travels 200,000 miles in 3 years, then you get the same car that only travels 1000 miles in 3 year, when the 3 year birthday comes along does the car just crumble and fall to pieces and become non drivable..???

LOL, top gear tried this one as well
. Impreza are cheap in Japan theres a lot more money in a big 4x4.
You take a risk when you buy any second hand car Uk turbo or import. If you do the checks which you should do for any car then whats the problem ???

HPI reports do'nt show up stolen japanese cars ,Interpol and other police forces have great difficulty in tracing stolen vehicles from abroad ,some cars have been reclaimed 2 or more years down the line with several owners involved in the chain,if you don't believe this ,go to Southampton and look at the hundreds of cars that have been impounded by the stolen vehicle squad.

And what details of the car do the local scooby dealer go on ,chassis number?,VIN plates?,log book?,all of these can be altered so the number that they look up checks out OK ,the latest ways to alter the numbers are very high tech ,alot of money has been invested by the criminals to make these alterations as near perfect as possible ,so you may think how do the police get to know about these cars ,tip offs and the common source of a particular gang, they then check out all the vehicles that they have been involved with ,in one particular case 78 out 86 cars were stolen .

The problem cars are stolen in japan and are secondhand. UK cars are brought in through the importer directly from the car manufacturer. As for euro imports most of them are imported new in the same way.

'UK purchasers of imported Japanese luxury cars have a 1 in 5 chance of losing their total investment - up to £30,000 - because they may be in possession of a stolen vehicle, according to figures released today by the National Criminal Intelligence Service (NCIS).
Cars at risk include the Toyota Landcruiser and Prada, the Lexus range, Nissan Skyline, Honda NSX, Mitsubishi Pajero and Evo, and Subaru Impreza.'
Another generalisation. this quote concerned cars originating from the Dubai Trading Zone only. Was based on an investigation of three 'allegedly' bent import companies and included only one late model Impreza.
Can I start a book on the next 'Lewisballs'
6:1 on "none of them have any underseal".

Just cant imagine why anyone would buy a car that they CANNOT check out properly - I am talking secondhand here.
Ring up HPI and ask them about Mr HU FLU DUNG and his 3 year old Impreza, he lives in the catacombs of Tokyo, can they please check that the mileage is correct, that it is not stolen, that it has been serviced properly and that it isnt a write off ........... I think they might just tell you that you are a stupid person for even contemplating handing over good money for such an article!!![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)
At the end of the day the 'Greys' are for those who cannot afford a 'Proper' Impreza - and I understand that there are those who are not as clever as I and so cannot earn a decent wage - and for them I suppose second best is better than settling for a Nova (But only JUST!) - I see my servants looking at my UK Impreza as I roll up to greet them ............... their eyes are a picture, and for those 'Downstairs' I would assume that a 'Grey' would be all they could stretch too - Bless!

96WRX??????????? That must be a clapped out old shed, wouldnt stand much of a chance against my MY00 UK Standard with a fresh (GENUINE!) 30,000 careful miles under its belt and PROPERLY serviced.
However, chances are its nicked, and as we know stolen cars can travel faster than those still in the owners hands![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)
As I said, the 'Greys' are for those on family credit and such like - they think it makes them look as cool as the UK Standard boys, but no, we can all see the difference!

LOL nice one Pete I see from the top of the page you are being backed into the corner

A man of your means should surely be driving a BMW, Mercedes or Rolls Royce
something us "poor" grey import owners can only dream off

I don't know what all the fuss is about
I found this at the BIMTA website
http://www.bimta.org/certificate.htm
"We are now able to offer a unique Certificate of Authenticity which gives an underwritten money back guarantee that the vehicle is not registered as stolen, and that it has no financial liens such as HP, prior to leaving Japan"
It also mentions about a mileage check service they offer.
"BIMTA is now offering to provide details of speedometer readings of vehicles at they time they went under the hammer in Japan.
The service covers the majority of the 140 auction houses and all the vehicles that have passed through them from January 1st 2002 onwards"
Also they go on to say that just because your car is an import it dont mean it is more likely to have been clocked.
"It must be emphasised, however, that “clocking” is no more of a problem with imports than it is with any other second hand cars on the UK market"
Sounds to me like PS is on a wind up, how big is that wooden spoon Mr Lewis?![Stick Out Tongue](images/smilies/tongue.gif)

STi VII - All the documents you mention are, of course, fakes and not worth the paper they are printed on!! They are raised for, an on behalf of, the people who are making money out of the mugs who buy Dodgy 'Greys' in this country!

Mr Lewis, I know you're on a wind up of sorts (but deep down try and convince yourself your right!?)but anyway: Do you really think UK cars are generally better? If so, why (and please don't do the stolen thing - it's wearing very thin)? Do you dislike the extra power or the aluminium boot, bonnet and suspension arms? Do you prefer to do without the eletrically folding mirrors or the climate control and the useful rear wiper? Don't you think the higher rev limit and slightly shorter gearing make the car more fun? Do you honestly believe the UK car is better value when they take off/downgrade these things and then have the cheek to up the price? Oh dear, is the Subaru servicing and slightly cheaper insurance really worth these losses. Keep trying to convince yourself...

They dont have a ally boot, try sticking a fridge magnet to it and no rear wash wipe on mine either
I agree you get more car for your money though hence I brought an import

A UK car holds its value - you can write the grey value off in a few short years
They have more power and a higher rev limit because they only need last for 3 years in the home market ..... hence they are much more unreliable than a UK car
Subaru dealers treat you well when you roll up in a UK - you get treated like vermin in a grey
UK has a solid history, its pedigree is priceless - a grey is just that ---- GREY!!
Parts - difficult to come by ..... no such probs with a UK
Insurance - lots of companies will not even quote!! they KNOW what they are doing!! those who do charge at least 50% MORE!!
Petrol - high octane or Octane Boosters
It all adds up to a car of no pedigree, designed to last 3 years - then it starts to fall to bits - then when it does you cant get the parts. Insurance companies and Subaru Dealers treat you like you have Leprosy and the petrol costs you a fortune.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Think I will sleep well in the knowledge that I have the Superior car, thanks all the same.
As I said earlier, if you cant afford a 'Real' Impreza then go for a grey, I dont have a problem with that. Just dont try and convince yourself thats its a REAL one - cos it aint!!

Sorry Pete, as an owner of a dirty ***** of a car (UK spec imported from Holland) I couldn't let this pass ![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)
An alarm is fitted.
Locking wheel nuts are fitted.
A sticker is put on the back.
Extra underseal is applied.
That, sir, is yer lot![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Greys (as opposed to parallels) are great value for money, but I wouldn't touch something like that in an auction without knowing everything about it. As pete rightly says, when these things go wrong, they're expensive...
