"Our priority is that we should always seek to offer Subaru customers the choice of purchasing vehicles with the highest levels of active and passive safety, albeit also recognising that some of our owners are more preoccupied with performance. Accordingly, whilst announcing at the time of launch that bucket seats without side airbags would also become available, it was decided that initial production of WRX saloons for sale should be exclusively fitted with sports seats incorporating side airbags. Our expectation was that this derivative was likely to be in much greater demand."

This just sounds like marketing bull5hit for "We fu*ked up". Why can't they just admit to being human for a change? If they really thought some customers would prefer the added airbags and sports seats, surely these 'people' would buy the estate version for all it's practical features? The sports seats are not uncomfortable, just out of place in a WRC based road car.

I took delivery of mine this morning and I must admit I never really thought about it in terms of seats too much. Mine has got sport seats and I am perfectly happy with them. I am not a big bloke but don't seem to move too much in them and they seem to be very comfortable.
What I am happy about is having the extra airbags though. Some of you may remember I had a MY99 wagon...the reason I bought the MY01 was that the MY99 was written off in a head on collision with a so called "joyrider" who had lost control. It was a full blown airbag deployment incident. I am now more than happy to have as many airbags as possible...I guess once you have been there these things seem more important.
Cheers

Volvo make some very fast and impressive cars these days IMO. If the lease costs were not so high, I'd be driving around in a S60 T5 instead of the Scoob atm. I have a large amount of respect for any volvo with a T5 badge on the rear end. The fact that the pigs make so much use of them says more than any review in a magazine could do.

So, owner's poll - if you have a MY01, which of the two seat options do you have a preference for, and why?
(please only respond if you have experience of both seats).[/quote]
Um, so why did you choose to buy a sports seat car rather than with the buckets if you don't like them?
Surely you sat in them before you bought it?
Personally I much prefer the buckets

A dealer told me that all the MY01's until July time had
the Sports seats because none were ordered with Bucket seats.
The nice people at Subaru have lent me a MY01 with sports
seats but I much, MUCH prefer the bucket seats in my MY99.
Does anyone else think the new impreza does not feel so
rewarding (or raw) to drive then the old model?

I have the bucket seats in my MY01 4 door, and test drove a car with the sports seats. There is no comparison - I'd have the buckets every time. Like a lot of other people, I did not feel secure in the sports seats, and felt the need to hang onto the steering wheel when going around corners.
Just a few additions - I'm 6'5", and like the pies, but still fit comfortably in the buckets - longest single journey to date 4 hours, no aches, just very happy. Also, circa £250 saving IIRC when buying from Holland.
Cheers

Iv'e got an '01 with sports seats, and I have now done over 5K miles with no back problems (in most of my previos cars I have had back ache after long journeys apart from an old 205 GTi that I had). Whilst I have not actually driven a car with the bucket seats I did sit in one at the dealers, I stuck with the sports seats on the basis that the shoulder support almost 'forced' you to keep your hands as the 10 to 2 type position on the wheel, which I felt would be a disadvantage on long journeys.
I would say that 80-90% of my driving is 'normal' i.e. to and from work etc, the rest is 'fun' the sports seats are probably best described as adequate for the 10-20% of time spent really needing the extra lateral support.
Cheers,
Darren.

Forced into it or impatience?
I can undertstnd impatience, I've been waiting for 5 months and finally get to collect mine from Belgium on Thursday.
Out of interest, they are getting a Subaru UK person to fit the UK spec alarm as well.

Maybe not entirely on the correct thread (sorry Dave ), but I also get some back ache on long journeys from my buckets. What would be nice would be a bucket with adjustable lumbar support.

I don't want to go into details of what is a long and boring story, but the dealer was 200 miles away and the deal was done over the phone....

I test drove a new WRX the other day and the standard airbag seats were the biggest disappointment. Would definately go for the buckets. Dealer confirmed that it is a no cost option for sports or buckets. however, he said that only buckets can have the leather option?
Has anyone got the buckets trimmed in leather and are they worth the extra cost?

Also test drove a WRX with Sports Seats, offered the same support as those in my B Reg Ford Fiesta GL i.e. poor. Also having worked hardish to improve the interior the sports seats definitely cheapen it. No comparison to my MY99 buckets.
And now what is probably a totally ignorant question.... why can air bags not be installed in bucket seats?

Ive got leather on the sports seats - so he's talking crap!! I think the leather sports seats are a great mix of comfort and holding you in the car for the 90% of the time you drive on normal roads.
I really hate the std interior trim - leathers so much nicer so if you can afford it go for it!! They do the back seats as well as the panels in doors. If you get charcoal grey leather it matches the doors and dash perfectly
I found that:
a) Buckets too tight (not wide enough for me anyway)
b) I would have had to wait another 6 months for the car (not an option for me!)
c) Other than on the track the sports seats are adequate and comfy even at speed/cornering.
but....
If they fit my frame and i didnt have to wait another 6 months for the car i think id have had the Buckets no question!!

Dave,
Got Sports seats and think they are pants.
My car was ordered May 2000 ( Yes ) and deposit paid at this time to have one of the first available. It arrived mid Feb this year so I waited until 1 March 2001 for registration.
Like yourself, I have asked for buckets as they are far superior but have been told I cannot have them dueto airbags etc.
The most annoying thing? I never knew there was a bloody choice!! Having driven UK300's with the buckets, I am not overly impressed with the fact I did not even know.
I would be interested to know how youget on as it appears most people prefer buckets so who the hell have Subaru UK asked?
I love the car to bits but am struggling to justify the STi7 I have got ordered for whenever they see fit to deliver it.
This is me personally, I have never wanted an Evo before. The last few weeks I have really being considering an Evo 6 or similar for high teens.
