It isn't difficult to setup at all
The card's bios is configured and optimised for the hot swap cage.
The drives do not need to have any jumpers on them at all ad the hot swap governs everything for them. Just plug in and that is that
No drivers are needed for the hotswap cage and Windows2k has drivers built into 2K so that you can install without any fannying around with boot drivers.

http://www.aopen.com/products/server/chassis/HSC5.htm

Gives you an idea of how the thing looks. The only difference is that on my cage, each drive holder has a locking key installed so that kids etc cannot just pull drives out *****-nilly.

Cheers,

Nick

Wink

You muppet If you look at the picture you will see that it takes up 3 5.25 bays, so yes it will fit into there with 2 bays available for say cd drives.

If you look at the prices that I stated for this stuff new higher up the thread, you get the idea. SCSI drives are very reliable in general. They have lower failure rate than IDE drives. I have never in 5 years come across a hot swap bay failing in the 300-odd servers that we have provided to clients and they are acer servers using aopen chassis'

Si, BUY IT...

Dont know ever you have ever used SCSI, but it makes IDE look like a parallel port zip drive... Especially Ultra160... However is it a 64bit PCI card, and do you have 64Bit PCI Si?

The 19160 card is a 32-bit card so there will be no problems. The 64-bit ones work fine on normal PCI slots too in my experience. There are very, very few mobos that properly integrated 64-bit slots with full 64-bit bandwidth. Also, in my experience with the 64-bit 3950u2b's and the 29160's, there is very little difference in perfoemance for general use. Less than 10% with me.

Nick

Nick,

Im not surprised the motherboard setup went quickly!!!
If I didn't have a similar server at home already I would snap the SCSI kit up. My SCSI card & drives cost around £700 to setup 8 months ago and has less than half the storage capacity!!!!
Where were you then!

I'm sure you'd get what you wanted on Ebay as I have seen those Seagate drives alone go for £160+!

Good Luck m8

Dave.

Doh, I did say the wrong controller card. It was not a 19160, but a 29160N controller card.
