I still think we're being a little brutal here. Most people thunder up and down the motorways at 90mph in anything from clapped out novas/vans/astras/whatevers (scarry and a lot more dangerous IMO) to spanking new M3's/scooby/bikes/whatevers.

It's very easy to do a ton in these cars, I came up a slip road today and had to join the traffic at 40mph due to slow moving lorry in front. I floored it to ensure I didn't interfer with the speed of the traffic that was rapidly closing in on me and when I was comfortable I was exceeding their speed I backed off...probably hit an indicated 115 (last 10mph or so was just for fun )which is about 105 and worse than the poster. I didn't get caught but could have been if plod was hiding behind a bush. I admit I broke the law but it was actually *polite* on that occassion to exceed the limit (although not *neccessary* to go as far as 105mph) to ensure seemless integration with, and minimal distruption to, the other traffic.

I guess my point is it was be very easy to put on that last 30mph in a powerful car and it can be very easy to take the decision to put on that last 30mph in any car. They guy got caught on this occassion and we lay into him, but most of us have probably done similar speeds and got away with it even as recently as today. We'd all feel sorry for ourselves if we got done, its human nature. If he'd been doing 50 in a 30 I'd get stuck in too because there are very few if any circustances where that would be acceptable or safe. There are times where I've cruised at well over 100mph in this country in perfect safty (but NOT legally). This reminds me of the 'is the 70mph limit too low thread' what was the outcome?

I'm gutted you got done mate but if I'm being honest I'm glad it was you and not me Dog eat dog in all

I echo the sentiments above

"Can't say I was conciuosly speeding" @ 100 ? *imho* should be done for driving without due care and attention. Get a scoobysport exhaust that may help you hear the diff between 70 and 100.

That's a fair point it's pretty easy to tell the difference between doing 70mph and doing 85+ mph even with pee-shooters!

I got 6 points and a £425 fine for doing 101 on the M62 whilst being followed by un unmarked police volvo T5.

Had to appear before Bury magistrates court, tried to ban me for three months, but cried that I needed the car for work and to ferry round my sick mother blah blah blah.

Have you admitted the offence if not, there is another way you know, pay the local down and out/skint student to take the rapp.
Going rate £100 per point/£250 per mnth ban.I kid you not.

Hope this helps(snivelling scouse git)Yoza

PS I dont go for all this "shouldnt have been speeding" bit.

Most people do,just the unlucky ones get collered!

I was quite proud of myself, actually thought I was having the T5 off in my little 306TD,till it turned blue with his hidden lights,bummer............

I also thought he was going to let me off,as the first thing he said to me was.......are you having trouble taking off sir?,I thought nice one sense of humour, but he heard my accent then proceeded to book me.......ah well to late wot can you do.

PPS hadnt heard of the down and out/student bit till after the event.

aaaannnyway...

2 points to consider....if you haven't already sent the form back, claim that you can't remember who was driving. There is a loop-hole in the law currently which means that you shouldn't have to self-incriminate. (Europe is good for that, at least... )

Secondly, if it does come to court, don't play the "oh my I so need my car for living, I would not be able to do anything without my car, please don't take it away" line. If you get a nasty judge, this is the ideal way to make sure that you "feel" the punishment - bye bye car for 6 months.

HTH.

Not anymore i'm afraid, public safety now holds presidence over your human rights.

Paul

PS 40 -> 115 on a sliproad Kenny? Wait till I tell your mother!

Ok tiggs, I worried about that statement the whole way home (70mph max by the way) and have formulated my defense. The 115 was my incidated speed. Given that I know my 5th gear ratio I also know my speedo is about 10mph out at that speed so I was in fact doing 105mph (pretty much exactly). I clearly stated that the last 10mph or so was for fun - 4th gear was pulling well so I held it Thus I needed IMO to pull 95mph for the safety aspect. Given I was joining traffic that was probably doing between 80-85mph I had to call up about 85mph just to stop them closing on me. At this point the traffic was uncomfortably close (although not dangerous and my actions did not require them to alter their speed) so I increased my speed by 10mph over theres to pull a more comfortable distance. Hence 95mph, and at that point I should have backed off and let my speed coast back down to the cruise speed of 80-85mph with a nice comfortable distance between cars Of course, as stated, I went on a little longer before backing off. I hope this demostrates why on that occassion it was IMO polite of me to briefly exceed the speed limit to prevent other road users from altering their speed. I accept it was illegal and if caught plod wouldn't care much for my politeness excuse. Nevertheless, I find it the most annoying thing in the world when I'm crusing along at 80mph and some tw@t dives from a slip-road to the outside lane without the power/intention to accelerate enough to prevent me from having to brake. More often that not when this happens I have to drop back to 60mph and it costs me several seconds of boost and approximatly a fiver in fuel to get back up to 80mph!!! Bugging as hell!!

Paul, your mums upstairs having a wee snooze but she told me to say hi

SiDHeAD thanks M8 the boys in blue from Gwent seem to have some very small temporary camera signs at the side of the road usually well south of Monmouth and then park on the very few bridge crossings usually using a tree to obscure most of their vehicle! also in the lay by near the wind speed machine when going towards Newport with a dark brown transit + chevrons though not very obvious and not white! you have been warned!!

Cool

Cheers Tiggs

You'll all be please to know that I bumbled along at 70mph today. I think I've got a tank of opti-gash at the moment so I'm going to curtail the fun and see if I can get some half decent mpg for once

i got done on A% once for 84 in a 40

difference was in those days it was a plod with a gun

anoying thing was i'd waited behind two cattle wagons for ages till there was a decent straight and was slowing down as i knew i was coming up to a dangerous part of road, what i didn't know was theyd put a 40 limit on it 2 days earlier.

anyway got a letter for court appearance. i sent in licence and guilt plea and got away with 3 points and £40 probably due to fact copper had only written me up at 68 mph. he'd laughed his head off when i said if hed got me a couple of secs earlier id have been doing 110.

moral is if you did it accept it and that humans are more flexable than machines

ps if you visit North Wales check this site for cammera vans and gatso locations, its updated every monday by the police themselves

Well you bunch have changed your tunes lately haven't you a few months ago if any one posted a "i've been done for speeding" it was 100% sympathy and huge amounts of advice how to contest it, and if anyone said tough then they were accused of being hollier than thou, this guy has done nothing that any of us haven't done before and he is getting a right slating. Pathetic the lot of you!!
