It aint fair yknow. Ive got a Link, the Defis, the Ledas and all the bits, but Toby's is a Type5R :P He's just showing me up on purpose. lol.

The spec is very similar so he must also be pushing 340bhp like me, in a Type R, you are always changing up

On the motorway though, id swap all that accelleration for a uk Gear set and more than 80mph at 4000rpm. Go over that for any consistent time and the oil temp goes up to 100Deg

That short gearing gives an impression of more acceleration, aswell as actually improving post-gear chance acceleration a bit due to being higher up the power band more often.

Being a passenger always feels faster, maybe you should get someone to take you out in your car!

Post 96 uk car is never going to pull well beyond 6k rpm with the standard turbo.

Yeah, I did 'hint' at Toby re actually driving the beast, but I can say I understand....I'm the same with my old slow 99

It was defo quicker, it pulled and pulled right round to 8k, and you could 'feel' the torque.

Dont forget, FAST or QUICK *is* a relative term, a quick escort *is* quick....but put it against a Turbo Astra and it becomes a 'slow' escort....blah blah blah

Hol, I dont know what Tobys car is producing, he hopes over 300bhp, to be honest, I would think 330 - 350bhp.
I would like *another* gear for mine, on the m-way I could sure use 6th as an overdrive Cant imagine what a lower gear set is like....I think I'd stay away from m-ways

Pavlo, I reckon youre right, hybrid is on the wish list...been thinking about selling one of my shotguns to fund it but where would it end ?

Reckon I'll have to wait and save my pocket money

Yep AFAIK I have had the car from new well 10 miles on the clock. Its a non STI but I think it has the STI6 turbo from what I can gather. The VF30 was fitted to the STI7 I think ??

cheers

STI with elec centre diff has fewer trans losses so puts more power to the wheels, so it's faster. UK boys can shout and shout but the only true way is STI/pipe/Induction/Link/SUL... Nothing quite like it...

Daver
V5 Type R Link etc...

UK cars do not seem to struggle to get the same power figures with decent mods according to http://dyno.scoobynet.co.uk

The best STis and UK cars seem to be around the 350-360 BHP mark, although there are exceptions like say CraigH. But if you wanted to go really mad does it really matter to start with an STi if you are rebuilding the engine and gearbox anyway?

Mr Banks 350-360bhp... that'll be nice....

Agree that not much difference between UK and imports if your uprating the internals say.....

Wont be long before we have a few 2 litre Subarus over 400bhp........ (Craigs was a 2.2 Stroker....)

Cool

MD,

Lol just read this thread

Did you enjoy our little blast on saturday then?

Car feels good at the mo, cant wait to see what power i've got on Saturday, considering its running a std top mount it's not bad really, should be over the 300bhp mark or I will cry

Glad you enjoyed the blast, it was nice to see the grin on your face afterwards lol.

Next time we'll put Mole in the car too hehe, felt a bit guilty leaving him behind whilst we went out to play

Yes but it's also been proven that the maximum of 276 bhp isnt actually adhered to all the time. My totally standard RA was measured at 290 bhp on Octane boosted super.

Steve,

Mine wasn't a 2.2........

due to the wonderful BPM and a wonderful rebuild I decided to bin the BPM stuff and start from scratch - because of the hassle I had with the BPM kit I couldn't be 4rsed to do it again and went std 2litre........

Not sure what the power was at 1.8bar, but was more than it was at 1.5

only currently, and thats only because half the engine is in a machine shop somewhere oop north lol. Least my car managed equivalent horsepower to yours WITHOUT the link in lol (or maybe just a little less, but was also august in my lunch hour).

i remember you and mark khan (in his uk car admittedly) trying to keep up with mine, see ya later

and that was before water injection, better ecu, hks headers, closed deck block, arrow rods & je pistons

I can only agree 100% with you mate, as poor old Toby's car has trouble staying with my virtually standard car. The youth of today eh!!!! lol

I cant understand what all the fuss is about, my Pace INTERCOOLER seems to work VERY WELL, it lowers charge temps considerably over the heatsoaked top mount

Also I didnt have to cut my bumper to fit it...must have some advantage come re-sale time?

Tobys car must be quick, he was staying with Gixers last time we were out, and wasnt even trying (thats what he told me).

Gotta go, have now got HIDache

See ya Saturday.

What difference does a closed deck block make?

Are the JE like the Cossie Pistons?

Craig - My apologies - what did you say you had at 1.5 bar? - and whose RR - I'll have something to aim for then - did you say that at 1.69 Bar you had to stop, or was that at 1.8 bar due to a dodgy fuel regulator?

from asking around people who had similar experiences je pistons seem a little quieter than the cosworth ones which (from the ones ive heard) they sound like a diesel on startup!

The closed deck just gives better strength as reduces piston 'walk' that seems quite evident in the phase 2 open decks.

Are you rebuilding your car at the mo steve?

It gave a supposed 360hp at 1.5 bar.

You're right about both values we had to stop at to be honest with the fuel regulator - Defi gauge said 1.8 bar and I'm pretty sure Steve Simpson said it was actually 1.69bar - got the reg sorted but never got it remapped to see.

We got 288@wheels before we had to stop.

RR was Nobles in Chesterfield - shame it wasn't PE then I would've had some real power to boast about

And now we're making do with a mere 190 lol - least the car is 1000kg lighter
