WRX STi Prodrive Performance Package

Many people(me included) feel that 10K is too long for an oil change for a car such as the STI. Therefore a lot of STI owners are going in for interim 5000 mile oil changes, just to be sure

Barnaby,
Ooooooops Neil already posted but 10K miles or a year I feel is to long for this high performance engine (My MY99 3 had a year)
Brendan,
Yes this is a "UK Thing" PPP is the only engine upgrade that lets you keep warrenty Scoobysport, PE and Miltek do a superb sports cat system which stops boost spikes but **** your warrenty
The down pipe has a "Sports" Cat, it will pass emission tests for a "Used Car" or MOT's but will not pass Emission Regs for "New" unregistered Vehicles so can only be fitted as an after market fit.

Tony, it's not only UK, we can buy a special WRX Prodrive here in Portugal which has PPP, Prodrive brakes, suspension, wheels, and headlights (at present )
If the downpipe is now available for the WRX and it keeps the warranty, I'm interested...

i dont understand why they kept everyone in the dark re the spec sheet for this product for such a long time?
Sure, they had to get the supply issues resolved and some stock in place for the orders before they gave a release date, but why not let the spec out once it was signed off?
It's like not giving us a spec sheet for the MY03 until it apears in the dealers in February?
Can you explain this Mike? it seems rather a strange way of marketing a product to me. Then again i am a simple lad.

Ref the cost, the official Subaru UK Press release states that "Developed by Banbury-based Prodrive, the power boost costs £1,995 including 2.5 hours for dealer fitment. Initial supplies begin during October 2002, following extensive durability tests."

Sorry for the delay in replying, I've been a bit busy to say the least!!

Soon for the springs!

Noise levels are similar to previous Performance Packages.

As we haven't been able to look at the 03MY cars yet, we don't know. As the majority of the development time went into the cat spec, I think we will have something available for 03MY very quickly even if they are slightly different.
John
It's a difficult problem to decide when is the best time to release details of forthcoming products. Do it too early and everyone is bored with waiting before it arrives. Do it too late and everyone has bought something else as they don't know it's coming.
The Scoobynet grapevine is very information hungry as we all know and it's almost impossible to keep something like this quiet until the date you want to officially release the info.
This sort of product inevitably evolves over time so the spec when it actually hits the street has gone through many changes during the development. Imagine a scenario where the spec changes slightly after sign-off due to something you've found during durability testing that has continued after provisional sign-off. What do you do? Supply a product that doesn't do what it says on the tin? I don't see that as an option really.
I know there will be more questions, keep them coming!
Regards
Mike

I may have missed it but has anyone posted the top speed with PPP, standard car is 148mph.
Also heard that MY03 has a revised turbo - wonder if this was done to address lag - and will it retro fit onto MY02

Any chance of knowing who manufactures the sports cat ?
We know who supplies the springs and wheels etc.
Will we get pops/flames if a sports cat is in the system ? really miss that from my old de-cat WRX.

yep, i understand what you are saying, i also understand things have changed significantly in recent years with regards to the ability to keep things under control as regards letting information get out to the public.
Scoobynet is full of very inquisitive people who have access to information that would have been unthinkable, even 3 years ago so we are naturally less patient than before because we know something is happening and are able to discuss it.
I still think it would have been incredibly helpful to release some info prior to the release to the dealers of the first kit, not 6 months ago of course, but to wait until the day the product is at a dealers after people getting pissed off because they were being ignored and even wound up seems a bit of an odd one to me.
Looks like a great package, pity i didnt get the chance to try it at croft last weekend.

Scoobydoo,
As taken from the STI UK PPP press release.
Subaru’s iconic Impreza WRX STi can now be fitted with a 305 PS performance pack giving a 155 mph top speed and 0-60 mph time of only 4.6 seconds.
Not only does power leap from 265 PS (261.5 bhp) to 305 PS (300 bhp) at the same 6,000 rpm but torque rises from the standard STi’s 253 lb ft to 299 lb ft, also at the same 4,000 rpm.
Side-by-side tests revealed a 0-60 mph time down from 5.2 seconds to 4.6 seconds and a 0-100 mph figure of 12.2 seconds instead of 13.7 seconds. Quarter mile figures are now 104.7 mph/13.4 seconds instead of 101.4 mph/14 seconds.
The 30-50 mph time in 4th gear drops from a still impressive 5.6 seconds to
4.4 seconds while the 50-70 mph time in 5th is now 4.9 seconds instead of
6.1 seconds. Further up the speed scale, the 80-100 mph time in 6th gear is covered in 6.5 seconds rather than 7.8 seconds.
Cheers,
Rob.

Yeah, cheers Rob for that info. That is a nice top speed and the quoted 1/4 mile and 100kph sprint seem very healthy aswell. Im just wondering wether those times are done pushing the cars hard, not just an average over many different tests. Has anybody actually taken one out for a 1/4mile and cranked an equal or even better time??

Scoobydoo,
These test results are no doubt supplied by driving the car very hard by experienced test drivers.
All the rolling speed tests should be easy to replicate however standing starts are difficult to get consistent results. I mean just try a 0-60 mph and see if you can get near the quoted figures it's not as easy as you think.
Cheers,
Rob.

Or don't try to replicate the 0-60........
The standard road tester way on a 4wd car is to sidestep the clutch with around 7000 rpm on the clock to stop it bogging down, and something will then have to give, which is either the tyres' grip, or more likely the clutch plate's grip
It will also involve making the 1st-2nd change as fast as possible, which if it beats the synchromesh (and it probably will) will mean an enormous crunch on the gearchange as one set of gear teeth tips hit the other

If a heavyweight 300bhp STI7 can do a 1/4 in 12.2 then my classic RA should be well into the 11s .
Anybody know the power at the wheels of the STI7 PPP ?
- Nope thought not
