that'd be turn right out of Picton, follow the side of the hills along Queen Charlotte Sound, drop down into Havelock and up through the Rai Valley to Nelson - twisty bliss, some good straights and magic scenery (but don't tell every-one or they'll all want to go on that road).

Spain: the problem is that they have a luxury car tax - that is really really high (but still lower than the UK!!) so most of the cars are ickle fiats and so on.

Italy: the roads are really good - especially north of milan towards comos. Italians like anything fast too.

Australia: daft speed limits that change every 200m for 1000 miles. lots of speed traps. Loads of aussies lose their licenses for speeding. too many animals wander onto the roads. road trains kick up all sorts of crap into the air. I like the Cairns to Karundi road in tropical queensland. lotsa curves.

Scotland gets my vote. fastastic roads - BlairGowrie->glenshee->braemar; fortwilliam road through glencoe, the A822 past knockhill and of course, the rally stage in the Queens forest near Loch Achray (costs 50p). How many countries can you get the car airborne on the way to tescos? The bad thing is that fuel is the most expensive for an oil producing nation. (Cue nationalistioc comments!)

can't wait to move back!

I've lived here for 6 years so I'm obviously well aware how bad Germans are (at driving *and* footie!).
Yep, they religiously stick to the speed limit on country roads - that's why I have a car that can blast past them in the blink of an eye.
Yep, they can't park for toffee - but I do the same now. I always park across two spaces and no door dings in three months.
Yep, they still insist on giving way to the right but remember the law is on your side.
German police are excellent.

OK - missed this post so far, but gotta have a vote for the land where they're made: Japan.

- Much less car theft than the UK, and just about anywhere else (but getting worse unfortunately - globalisation ).
- Lots of nice, curvy roads out of the big cities.
- Good fuel, cheaper than the UK...
- Plenty of other good cars to ogle, and lots of Scoobies!

Cheers.

Edit: to add - but speed limits are ridiculously low in most places
