Whats this "Plus Member" thing??

Hi All
LOL!!
OK.. ScoobyNetPlus is the discount card which entitles you to discounts on all products in ScoobyShop.
ScoobyShop will be launching within the next couple of days and already has a stunning range offered by the 100 + vendors that have signed up.
Membership will be £25 a year, but you can still buy from the shop at the full price even if you're not a member.
The reason the moderators are ScoobyNetPlus members already is simply that they all get it for nothing for doing such an incredible job of looking after ScoobyNet.
You can enter your email address in the box at http://shop.scoobynet.co.uk to be kept informed of when the shop and ScoobyNetPlus go live.
All the best
Simon

OK, OK... That's enough now.. can we please not abuse the lettering thing as it will a) make a mockery of the last 6 months of enormous effort to get this all up and running, and b) cost scoobynet a fortune in bandwidth if it carries on.

The actual function is a cost we can handle and have planned for. It will not cost that much, but if everyone starts posting them at the bottom of their posts / using the lettering all the time for future posts (I can just imagine entire muppet threads where every letting in each post is one of the graphical ones), things are going to go very wrong indeed.
The sigs will not get out of hand, or they'll be removed. Can we give it a go for couple of months, then all take a call on it together?
Cheers

(Warning to muppets: Doing the above will result in said thread/post being vaped right away}

True - but given that the mods names cover most letters and the individual gifs will all be locally cached the entire page could be written that way with no extra bandwidth used
<heads for muppet forum>
Hey, Simon - I think the phrase can of worms might be appropriate here.

Hi
The cache thing only works for people that have already seen all the letters. This only accounts for about half the traffic on scoobynet (in-fact less than that if you start thinking about people who are using a different machine / have low caching, etc).
Either way.. forgetting the bandwidth it still devalues the serive we've spent so much time on, so please respect that or it will all turn nasty when thread deletion and all night arguments about why something was deleted ensue.
greg.. there will eventually be every kind of product and service immaginable (well.. legally imaginable that is! ), the prodcts are definitely biased towards scoobies at present, but there are already lots of general products in there.

You're forgeting the new vape weapons the moderators are being issued with Just wait till you see the 35mm Semi-Automatic assault vape chaingun Cannon
I would prefer to see how it goes for a week or two, before assuming that scoobynet users are a bunch of kids who'll muck around and generally mess things up for everyone.
Of course there will be some childish users, but I hope that most people on here will be sensible and use the new features in a postive and adult way..

someone explain the point of a sig to me?
i thought the idea of a BBS was to create a virtual forum for discussion.....if i walk into my office and engage someone in conversation they can tell whos talking to them from seeing its me (this is the same as your name by your post) if i finished each sentence by saying MARK TIGWELL SENIOR INVESTMENT CONSULTANT they would think i was a **** wouldnt they?
a post is not a formal letter, its your part in a conversation.

Must....resist....temptation.....
"scoobynet users are a bunch of kids who'll muck around and generally mess things up for everyone. "
How much evidence is required.....

LOL @ dsmith
Tiggs : why the capital T at the end of your post then? The only possible excuse is that different people might access scoobynet via the same account, e.g. Mrs Tiggs might appear as Tiggs, but with Mrs. T at the end of her posts?

Cool. this reminds me of the annual signature discussion we have at work, where you get the UN*X geeks quoting RFCs regarding ASCII signatures and their correct usage, and marketing nerds attaching 500Kb animated logos to their emails ...
It has to be said though, that at present Scoobynet sets itself aside from "most" BBSs by not having cluttered posts due to the exclusion of signatures at the end of every message.
A great example is this very thread, which is a lot harder to view on screen, than those before it - due to the (presently) very meagre sigs. in use ...
Have a look at some other BBSs around, and you'll see a different story, and ultimately a lower quality (IMO).
At the end of the day the webmaster is just that, and so the final decision rests there - but the public sway of opinion appears to go in favour of discreet avatars, which to me (read IMO) suggests this to be a better route.
What do you want ? Pretty, or Informative ?
