The letter gifs are 100% no different to smilies. The smilies used by this BSS are remarkably similair to those used on almost every other BBS i've seen. The muppet forum has posts which are just smilies ffs. So prob about 30 secs before they worked out the obvious - i.e. how to use the gifs to write with plus any other user with even 1 a fraction of brain would do the same. I believe this thread amply points out several things. a) Copywright is so difficult on the web. b) threads with sigs and letters and images are hard to read. c) lots of people have too much time on their hands (I'm bored rigid @ work today).

Not so much irony - as proving a point.

Deano

Bah. Edited 'cos it seems the img tag doesn't work inside the quote tag. Pfff.

The best bit is that when you hit 'Refresh' the letters appear one by one, in a random order.

Wouldn't have been an ODBC error if MarkO's post wasn't deleted.
Of course the problem will now recur every 20 posts on this thread...

LOL! RTFM, Mark

Exclamation

I decided to turn off signatures on the GTR Register, simply because people take things too far and abuse the system (similar to what's happening here). I've saved an awful lot on bandwidth, but that's not the main reason. A BBS with signatures is an incredibly messy site, ask anyone with experience. Pages take longer to load, harder to read and frankly, who cares what colour samco hosing you've got under the hood? It's totally subjective to the poster and irrelevant information.

The same happened when there was a certain amount of customisation allowed for the Avatar. Not only did people go crazy with file sizes and animations and the like, but they also added rather untruthful titles underneath the avatars.

Keep it off, the simpler the better.

Erm, Simon, on what basis exactly?

Or are you going to disable every account of anyone who links to images on their own website? It's not doing the BBS any harm, and it's not using any of your bandwidth. If you want to discuss this offline, feel free, but I think you're being a bit OTT here. [img]images/smilies/mad.gif[/img]

re-read my original request. It is not simply the bandwidth. You have been asked many times. I don't harbour hard feelings, so this is nothing that I will ever take personally... I'm just asking for the final time that this now stops.

All the best

Not sure how threatening to disable his account could be construed as 'asking'

Fine. So muppetise the thread. But I'm doing nothing more serious than if I were to do:

Except that it's my bandwidth, not yours, which I'm using in my posts. I think you're just taking this personally 'cos people didn't like your signature ideas, and 'cos my coloured letters are prettier than yours.

carl... don't I didn't say "my last post was JUST ASKING".. i simply said "I am just asking"... don't turn this in to a flame war, it's pointless and I'm working round the clock to bring something to the community that will be a benefit to all (including scoobynet - which cost a small fortune to keep running for you all).

Mark.. re-read my original request. It is not just the bandwidth.

I apologise for any insult you felt. Would you please do me a favour and let this rest now?

Many thanks

Simon

Marko,
STOP being a *** head!!!

In your continuance of acting like a child thinking you were funny, you have taken the urine of a feature we were offering the community.

You have been asked to stop it. Take it like a man and stop doing it, else you will be removed.

If you have nothing sensible to say, DON'T say it!!!! WHY do people think it is funny to post stupidty on a thread, that was intended for constructive comments....I will never know.
