I had had those thoughts myself craig, i particulary dont like travelling distances, 1. cos u always get stuck in a traffic jam and 2. i dont like putting miles on the RB5.

Also the limited number of members could pose a problem but on the other hand you can think of it as a very exclusive club.

Theres nothing stopping us turning up as a club to other meets and events tho so we still all get to meet new people and see other scoobs.

This first meet is just basically to mark the launch of the RB5 Club, owners to meet each other and to see a load of RB5's together.

Thats y i have been asking on here 4 wot people would like out of the club and sent a mail out to all RB5 owners.

But as I have only had one reply from over 60 owners I get the picture that no ones really that bothered, no1 has registred on the site so far so it all seems that mine and gavins work has been in vain.

What about the interior - door cards, seats (front/back), centre console trim, WR Sport rev counter (if you can get it)?

Is the std spoiler price correct? £700 surely not.

Cant be bothered has it not struck you that your first meeting is close to a 800 mile round trip for me. I actually think that the club is a good idea but only as a group of people on scoobynet. Look at the amount of people that have replied to this thread and engaged in talk about the car.

Newsflash you drive a MY99 Subaru Impreza yes it’s a SE but that doesn’t make it any better than any other Impreza in the land. This is a Subaru community and as I said in my previous thread we should stick to the meets as they are. Drivers of RB5’s are not the Aryan race you seem to think. My car is a different colour and has different wheels that’s it it’s an MY99 Impreza.

This thread seems to have developed into one of financial interest for the minority that I don’t think is with the spirit of Scoobynet forum Guidelines

I'm not having a go, and apriciate the efforts you guys have put in The sit looks good.

But...

1. I said ages ago that I cant make the meet on 20th. Easter Sunday = stupid date to be honest.

2. The price for the club is a bit steep. I dont pay as much as that for my membership of the SIDC or CSMA and even scoobynet plus membership is cheaper.

Meets are good, websites and mailing lists are good, but for £40 I want more than just keyrings and stickers. For example - the wheel refurb was a good idea, but its not gonna benefit me down in the midlands. This is the difficulty with charghing for membership - its tricky to sort deals etc that will benefit the majority when we are so spread out.

I dont want to have a go, so dont think that I am, its just the way I'm feeling.

Havent rb5 286 and R.B.5 asked on a number of occasions for input from the rest of us as to what we would like from the Owners club............. and how many replied

It has all been their hard work upto now without much input from anyone else. i suppose even negative comments are better than none at all, but ideas are what they were after, so i suppose its not suprising their getting sick of the lack of interest

I was willing to do a 450 mile round trip, even dropping the wife off at relatives nearby on the way coz it is only gonna be 1 or 2 meets a year so i could be bothered to make the effort, and i'll still do my normal district meets aswell

I was looking forward to it and am still willing to make the journey if anyones interested, and if there was a good turn out we could have discussed all this in person whilst putting faces to names too

Stefan - any news on the wheel refurb deal

cheers Mark and Gavin

Can't say I'm really suprised that Mark and Gav have reached this conclusion. TBH I thought there would be more interest from the RB5 owners on this board with regards to setting up a club.

I think that some people on this BBS have taken the 'elitist' comments to heart when I feel they were meant in jest (apart from it would have been nice to have a pure RB5 meet to see how many could actually be rounded up in the same place). I mean, how many times have Import STI owners made fun of inferior/slower UK cars and yet everybody still gets on!! Me thinks it's horses for courses to be honest.

Looks at this rate like the NBO is going to be biggest collection of RB5s yet, there are a number of us going, so how about those around the south get together and go in convoy at the very least??

Must admit I wonder why some people bought RB5s in the first place if all they can say is it's just an MY99 SE. If that was really the case then perhaps they should have bought an MY99 and saved a fair few grand in the bargain. To me the RB5 is something a little bit special (notice I didn't say better) and lets face it if somebody said "lets create a P1 or Terzo club" for example I can't imagine people getting there knickers in a twist quite like some have over the RB5/club.

Must admit I'm still up for a meet, failing that it looks like we'll see most at the NBO.

RB5-Black:

Newsflash mate you seem to be missing the point. WE have RB5's, sorry MY99's with different colour paint. There were only a limited amount made, that in itself makes the car special to me. It will always be a classic and will always look different from all the other MY99's on the road. Most are just as nice i will admit. I like all Scoobies including the Legacy.

If you feel that way about your car why buy it? Seems odd that you would spend the extra few grand on a SE if you didn't think it was anything more than a MY99.

We dont think our cars are any better than any other scoobies. I dont think i am any better as a person for owning one either.

What we are trying to establish is a little club for the owners. Look at the RSOC for instance, exactly the same principal there are millions of FORD cars but limited amounts of the RS models hence the club. Why i feel i have to justify my actions/words to you is something else, i shouln't even bother!

As for Aryan Race??? When was that mentioned??? We are normal people with sporty cars same as everyone else on Scoobynet. (not sure what you mean on this one)

Financial Interest?? The monies were going 110% for the club as if Mark and I would profit from other members, thats not a very nice thing to say (not in so many words, but i know what you meant).

You lack the Scoobynet spirit RB5-Black with all the obections and "funny comments" you've plastered on this thread. My view is if you object and dont like it why bother at all? Notice you are the only one posting negative comments.

You've annoyed me to say the least with the comments you've put on here, especially the money one!, i know i've been miffed and put comments on here too (people not being bothered) but it was my time i was giving up organising everything including the production of a web-site. Mark has been a huge help in it all with the purchaing of the domain and the creation of his own html site (again more time).

This is what scoobynet is all about mate, not just popping along to meets but organising things, clubs, binges, meets, camping trips etc, its the whole thing not just one. For myself and Mark to put in all this effort and then people dont even reply to e-mails/requests can you understand why i was a bit taken back by the lack of interest.

Anyway rant over.

I've decided not to bother with this whole thing now. I'm withdrawing from the NBO as i cant really be bothered. Just spend the extra money on the car to get it looking as i want it.

Thanks for the help and support you've provided with the Club/web-site. Good idea but dont think its worth the effort, not at the moment anyway.

Special thanks to Mark me bruva, big it up leek boyo

Its a REAL shame its come to this as first mentions of a club started over 1.5 years ago but no one actually did anything about it.

I am an enthusiast in the scoobies and wanted to start the club up as i thought it could bring a bunch of owners of the SE impreza, not a 'better' edition together as there are so few but spread out through the UK.

One meet a year isnt much time out of any1's life, i myself will have a 600+ mile round trip for the meet and had booked a hotel for the night.

My initial thoughts on starting up the club was just so that we had a community to chat amongst ourselves on a website/forum but after chatting to a friend who has run a club for 20 years he gave me great leads, Mike Wood & Angus @ Subaru so i can arrange meets at special functions they hold for press days etc, prodrive live days, tour of prodrive, all of which i have been negotiating.

Also setting up deals with dealers around the country and great discounts with suppliers such as Performance Subaru and RRR Preparation, all of which have been just as enthusiastic as me at the introduction of such a club as the RB5 OC.

He also advised me that for the club to be able to do things it will need money, hence the £40, dont forget SIDC and Scoobynet have 1000's of members, the most RB5 OC could ever have is 444.

He is also one of the STIG'S from Top Gear and was arranging a day at one of their filming days for the club.

I have put a lot of time into getting this off the ground and know that to keep the club and the members going strong i'm going to have to sacrifice a lot of my time, which i'm prepared to do.

However, after my posts on here and email shots to every1 I have such a lack of response, it has become clear to me that there is a large minority actually really interested in a club and has made me see that it has all been a great waste of time.

There are also other RB5 owners i have been in contact outside to the ScoobyNet community who have shown so much more enthusiasm.

I have many contacts and have the bottle and audacity to get things and thought i could put them to good use for the club and members on things i have previously mentioned.

Anyway, i tried, along with Gavins help and his time to get this off the ground but due to lack of interest i feel there's just no hope

oh dear. this is not good. I still think this is worth doing and the amount of effort the pair of you have so far put in speaks for itself. bearing in mind how much it costs to run our cars, £40 is nothing. its one tank of petrol FFS!
in my opinion the existence of an owners club can only be a good thing, and being a member of such a club can only add value to our cars - if I were buying an RB5 now and the seller told me they were a member of the owners club I would take that as a sign that they were enthusiastic about their car. Also, if I were looking to buy a car, where is the first place I would look - the owners club!
I cant offer anything in the way of organising/websites, etc and I cant make the meet on the 20th as I will be out of the country, but I really hope this does get going.
I'm bored of people saying these cars are not special. Mine is! Otherwise I wouldnt have traded a perfectly good MY99 plus £000's to buy it.

Oh! Well, it could be that people are as thick as me and have clicked on the registry bit and thought "ah excellent, my details are already up there" and have not seen (until about 5 minutes ago) the "join the club" bit.

I thought we had already registered? Do we need to go in and do it agian? I didnt relise.

To be honest, I think one of the problems is confsion on where we are and what were doing.

Maybe we could start a new thread, stating the current position? I didnt say I would not pay £40, just that is may sount a lot to some people, myself included. The fact I have an RB5 does not = Loaded. Far from it. My car easitly costs £500 a month before fuel costs. Doesnt leave me with much after I pay morgage etc.

It would be a shame to ditch the whole idea. Just start small and work up. We cant be RSOC, 22b or Scoobynet from day 1.

see this is wot i want, tell me wots bad about the site, tell me u dont wana pay £40 but ffs just tell me wether its good or bad,

without all your comments we cant make it any good can we, tell me the faults, tell me wot u want out of the club, wot would u as a club like to do.

p1$$ ups
track days
tours

let us no, in the end its for u lot

the registry part of the site is for the actual car itself

if you wish to join then u need to submit your details from the 'join the club' section.

going back to RB5 Blacks comments on financial benefits, as a club any member is entitled to look at the books to see wot money is going in/coming out etc so there is no way i would be making any financial benefit personally.

I have already laid out money for the domain name and was just about to sign a deal on web space and servers, this all takes money and although i'd love to have a deep pocket, i dont, so the money needs to come from somewhere, some of u guys are web/IT proffesionals so u no wot a cut throat thing the internet space/names are these days.

So come on help us out, suggest a cheap, good host.

If any1 wants to help feel free to input, i.e. do u work for a printers, can u run off newsletters?

do u work for a company that deals in the car business, can u get a deal from ur company for discounts on parts/accessories for the club

all stuff like this.

WE NEED UR INPUT TO MAKE THIS WORK

Sorry guys, but I have to agree with most of RB5-Black's comments. I think the club is a good thing, but I'm not that interested in driving from Scotland to meet up with a small number of other RB5 owners. I'm quite happy to pay a reasonable membership fee if it covers the costs of someone running a website. I just not convinced how much milage you'll get concentrating on trackdays, meets or even a newsletter.

If you fancy a weeks holiday abroad or a hillwalking/mountaineering trip I'd be up for that. To sit and discuss cars isn't my cup-of-tea I'm afraid. I've even grown tired of the local Scottish meets, simply because we don't do anything different.

Occasionally we get a chance to go karting or paintballing, so it would need to be something a lot better than going out on the pi$$. I can do that up here thanks very much

Don't take this the wrong way, just my initial thoughts.

I was perfectly willing to give up any amount of time to sort out club related things. I didn't see a problem with the money for a joining fee either. I too am not loaded just because i own an RB5. I have a fair bit of debt to clear so £40 to me is quite a lot. It is on the other hand "realistic" as the money will all go to make this club one of the best. With the meets, track days, Subaru & Prodrive days along with the binges, days out, meets etc it will all be worth while.

If anything Mark and I will be out of pocket but as i said before i am not in this for money and personal gains. I am doing it with Mark (ooer ) so that other people can benefit from the club, Mark and myself included. I'd love to go on days out to prodrive and watch people on track. I've never been involved in any club/event/meets before really so thats why i was so for it.

I dont think we are trying to run before we can walk, all we are doing is getting things moving quickly. If other RB5 owners just said what they wanted and didn't just think they were getting keyrings and stickers then we'd be a whole lot better off.

I think it would be fair to say that i will give it one more shot and then thats it. I dont want to waste anymore time on doing this and making false arrangements if this isn't going anywhere.

E-mails will be sent accordingly to all known RB5 owners asking if they have an interest in the club and a possible meeting sometime in May (mark can you sort this?). If we can work around it so that most if not all people can make it then the whole experience will be better. Can you all please reply to the e-mails just so we know either way. Ta

If i say as a starting date for the meet - 4th May, is everyone available to attend if not we'll re-arrange? I will also start a new thread called RB5 corner 2 as soon as i know the numbers of people who want in!

Are we all ok on this??

Mark views on this if you would please. You are more than welcome to ring me ole mukka, if you are still keen that is!

I am a very happy RB5 owner who loves the car, I am more than willing to pay the £40 fee for the club and i think Mark and others have put in a tremendous amount of effort. I am afraid i am one of those people like a lot of you that will sit back and let others arrange everything even though i benefit from it in the end.
I think a lot of you are keen internet users and i do not put you all down but i must be honest i do only now and then use the computer and so my replys etc are few and far between although i help when i can.
I think the website is fantastic and I have just realised i only registered the car and not myself and will be correcting this right away. These threads are getting a little bit silly with comments being thrown back and forth, everyone has their own degree of interest in this club, be it a great deal or just a little but the fact remains the same it is a good idea.
I agree a new thread should be started and maybe calm things down a little before all the hard work on the site/club is lost.

Not to worry RB5 Black as we've understood that there's a minority of people actually up for having a club, sadly the amount just doesn't warrant all the hard work required. Nevermind, was a good idea!

I'm sure we'll all see RB5 related posts out and about, just dont forget to click the "reply" button when you do

For what it's worth (even though it's too late it would seem), I also didn't realise that you had to register as a member - I saw my car on the list and thought that was it.

As for Gav and Mark doing all the work, I appreciate the efforts but have repeatedly offered assistance but haven't heard anything, so kinda figured that you guys were doing it all on your own and didn't need outside assistance.

I also do not recall ever having received an email from either Gav or Mark but then I am a regular contributor to this thread so cannot be accused of not supporting the cause. I have also posted about trying to get convoys together to go to NBO for example but have heard no interest at all.

The £40 membership fee was ok, but as others have said I am not minted by any stretch of the imagination, in fact if it wasn't for the Scoob I would be considerably better off, but I just love my car so much that all the money that I spend on it gives me greater satisfaction at seeing the end result than pissing it down a boozer every night!

I'm kinda disappointed that Gav you are dropping out of the NBO - even if the RB5 club isn't taking off, it's gonna be one hell of a get-together for all sorts of Scoobs so be a shame to miss the party , don't you think?

OK, here sthe deal from me...

1. I will/would pay £40 to join the club. But to make it work I think we would need a few members, but I'm still game.

2. I cant make the April meet. I am going to the NBO. I will probably be able to make a May 4th meet (need to check with work tomorrow).

3. I am midlands based, and would be more than happy to help scout out a pub for a middlands meet. I am however quite far from brum and would probably be unable to go to the brum / wolves dealers to sort a meet.

4. I will now go to the site and check that i amd my car are registered.

5. WHat I want to do...
Pubs
Food
Meets
Prodrive day/tour
Ossibly track days. Bit scared of mashing me motor, and never done one before
Driver tuition / advanced driving type stuff.
Group buys

I will also help with the club if theres anything I can do. For webservers, would a free service be good enough to start us off? Something like www.tripod.com ?

Thumbs up

for a webhost look no further than the home of scoobynet... www.titanhost.net

the company is run by a chap called Lee (yep, the same guy who is IT co-ordinator for the SIDC) and this is where I have our www.cumbrianscoobs.co.uk website hosted.

I have put all the effort in just because I wanted to brush up my .asp skills...the fact that there are thirty registrants on the site is just a bonus

I hope you persist and keep it going as one day I would very much like to not only own an RB5 but also join.

Cheers, Jon

Ps. I believe we even have a couple of RB5's registered on the CS site too

I think Mark will agree if i said we are at a loose end on this one now. We both feel that theres not much point. Kinda got no looks on it all now. If anyone else wants to start up a club i'd join but sadly i'm just not interested in starting one myself or with anyone else. Not at the moment anyway.

I think Mark has the same outlook on things too!

Sorry guys!

Dont worry about not registering on the site though, the input you all gave was just about enough, there were some regular posters on this thread who were well up for it you dont need me to point out names

Theres things i want to get done to my car before i take it up to any meet. The NBO will have to wait as i dont know if the car will be done by then. I have a few stone chips on the bonnet so a respray on the bonnet, bumper, top of drivers door, roof as well as reconditioning the wheels. I have a fair amount of work to get done so might not make it. Then theres the engine problems i've had and am still having. Car is to go back today for more intensive care treatment. Dont know whats wrong with it, just not producing boost correctly and smoothly.

I am sick of the car now to be truthful, dont know why i want to spend all of what it would take to get the above done. Should just sell it, but i cant bring myself to do so. Plus i cant afford to.

Wish me and me RB5 luck!

Gav

Listen every1

I am prepared to give this one last shot to try and make it work.

I have a proposal.

As RB5 ownbers are few and far between I suggest we need to get Club 'representatives' in certain parts of the UK as it is obvious we will all never be able to attend all meets track days ect.

We have regional Groups of the RB5 Owners Club.

Me - Southern Group
Gavin - Welsh Group
???? - Midlands
???? - Northern
???? - Scottish

This way we will all feel part of a club and get to do things which are more local and can participate more then once a year all the groups have a general meet somewhere in the middle.

Regional groups hold their own events but other regions are welcome to join in if they wish to travel, this should keep every1 happy.

We all keep in contact thru the website and a forum, in the forum we have the regional groups sections and their planned meets/events so every1 can see wots going on.

THe forum will need to be set up, i havent got a clue how to do this so some1 else will need to help out with programming setup etc.

this also means that we need some1 to run the regional groups.

Your thoughts and ideas on my proposal, sorry if its shoddy but i'm rolling this off as it comes

i feel this is the best way forward if we all wanted to make it work

Dont think there'll be many meets around here lol! I own one of two possibly three RB5's in wales i think. Most are inland. Means lots of travelling for me. The only thing i'll be organising is a single parking space at the welsh meet! LOL

I'm easy (not in that sense). Dont mind either way. I'll go with the flow on this one.

I admire your persistence Mark! Obviously regional meets will only ever consist of a small number of cars, but I am up for a southern meet. We need to see who else is actually going to peel themselves away from their computer screens.
I recently had an impressive turn out at the first meeting of the Bucks chapter.
