Redkop

You need to get out more, no one has really slaughtered you just look back at all the threads and see how much reasoned argument and nice smilies have been posted up if you ask me people have been kind to you and your one woman Liverpool crusade you have the audacity to use the words tunnel vision, have a laugh, have you read any of your own threads?? Liverpool, Liverpool, Liverpool, I cant recall you ever praising anyone other than your own players, very admirable but dont be so blinkered.

Most of us would love to be season ticket holders but mortgages, kids, scoobs and a whole multitude ofother reasons, financial or otherwise stop us but that doesnt stop us being fanatical and knowledgable about our choosen clubs (32years and counting) and football in general, armchair or not because you are fortunate to go to so many games obviously makes you a far more knowledgable person with all your stats, Bullsh1t!!

Check out my posts, they are not all Utd related, ive praised leeds (players), Middleboro, Fulham, Ive had a pop at Wise, Heskey (who hasnt ), Keane, Seaman, thats what being a football fan is all about not just championing my own tean. oh yeah Spurs fans, Simon Davies, young player of the year?? outstanding youngster!!

And for the record I have never used the word Great when describing Beckham, good very good were the words I used, there arent that many great English players around im afraid.

Enjoy your game tomorrow, I may even donate a £5 to watch it on PPV, sacrilege I hear you say a Man U supporter paying to watch two of their deadliest rivals. I look forward to your unbiased view of the game from whatever row youre sitting in

And rather than replying with another rant why not enter into some reasoned debate, do you rate Gerrard above Souness?? are todays players over glorified?? is the obscene amount of money in football today ruining the game??

Edited because my spelling is sooooooo bad

Dave

You cannot compare Gerrard to Souness - they are not of the same breed of footballer, rules and football have changed since the 70's/80's era. You are digressing away from the topic title Funkii, south-star asked for opinions of Beckham and asked if there were any more Beckham fans out there, to which I replied 'Nope' Sti then goes off on one, saying I have a very blinkered view, you then jump on the band-wagon but it wouldn't matter who he plays for & however much it offends you both but I DO NOTE RATE BECKHAM
Was it not you that quoted this? Do correct me if I am wrong.
RAOTFLMAO

Gerrard Better than Beckham, Beckham is good, very good but Gerrard better

Thats only IYO, which you are entitled to have, just as I am, so who is being full of bullsh*t with that statement.

1] are todays players over glorified?? YES
2] is the obscene amount of money in football today ruining the game?? Depends in what sense you mean, if you mean are players being paid too much, then the answer is yes also.

But the amount of money generated through TV rights, sponsorship, advertising rights has opened up a whole new future with new stadiums, training academies, youth development and soccer schools etc So in effect, the amount of money channeled into these resources cannot be deemed as obscene.

If you check out some of my posts too, you will see that I do not take a blinkered view re: LFC...there's 3 or 4 players that I do not particularly like and I have been quite vitriolic with my comments about some of their displays - although the media said different. At the end of the day - it's only an opinion, to which everyone is entitled to form one.

As well as being an LFC fan - I am also a football fan, I will watch any footie, therefore, I am able to be unbiased in who I think is a good player and who is not. It always seems to be the Manc fans that think other fans should agree with their point of view about Beckham - it really pi$$es me off. I don't condemn any LFC fan if they want to think Beckham, in their opinion is a good player. So just stop being so sanctimonious, because I don't agree with your views!!!

Thanks for showing my quote as i said earlier i never said he was great and youve just confirmed it for yourself, please read my threads fully

It never offended me at all, like you said the thread was about Beckham but you brought Gerrard into the equation I hardly digressed I merely compared him with what I believe to be a better player in that position for your team, I know who I'd have right now, Souness at his fighting weight, Isnt it nice that a so called rival can remember and discuss your players rather than just their own, No??

I'm glad to see you do watch other teams, thats healthy.

At the end of the day I havent even come close to being sanctimonious, I just like a good healthy footy debate but thats nigh on impossible these days, It was a crap thread to start with and weve brightened it up, look at a few more threads and see how they deviate.

I never expected you to agree with anything I wrote I was just questioning your statements, and your I go to all the matches and have all the stats, bloody armchair fans attitude, I was merely trying to point out that youre the lucky one going to all the games but dont think for one minute the rest of us are any less passionate than you are.

But you bit

I'll sign off now, or is that sign on

Look forward to your report tomorrow

Funkii - have just sold my ticket for tomorrow's game. Had to make a choice of footie or a track day at Oulton Park. The lure of track was too great So guess I will have to wait for the highlights

For what it's worth too, I dont rate Owen, Heskey or Murphy

A great role model????

One who gets paid around £100,000 a week but can't contain stupid aggression and dissent especially towards referees?
Don't you find his voice annoying? Fair enough he is harmless in himself, but FFS, there are far more intelligent role models for the youth of today to look up to..........

is the obscene amount of money in football today ruining the game??
In terms of players being paid too much OH YES!!! Also it is helping smaller clubs go bust because of the demand for high players wages.

Chelle - compared to the avg footballer Becks is a saint. Every other day he is doing something for charity or visiting a kids home. In the Commonwealth games he was given grief for wearing an outrageous Adidas outfit but at the same event managed to embrace and cuddle a terminally ill girl (IIRC) whilst the Queen managed to just shake her hand. If that doesnt count towards being a role model then I dont know what does.

Such footballers are a rare breed and I dare you to suggest an English player who does more good for the image of English footballer and acts a role model for todays youths.

Simon.

Have you been to any Liverpool games Funkii - I very much doubt that you have - so you are basing your inexperienced view from having watched Gerrard on the TV - it's amazing how views differ from the armchair supporters to the ones that actually go to the matches
So, Redkop, from that reference and past comments on Beckham I assume you regularly attend at OT in order to confidently make such an informative opinion and are in no way a pot calling a kettle black?

How come this has gone so twisted? I made the comment that I would rather have Gerrard to Beckham! Yes I have been to OT each time Liverpool play there. I was referring to Funkii's statement
Gerrard Better than Beckham, Beckham is good, very good but Gerrard better ..... apart from the goal last night I havent seen him do anything other than play the long ball game
It is obvious by this statement he hasn't viewed many games if he has only seen Gerrard play a long ball game

Every other day he is doing something for charity or visiting a kids home

You surely aren't such a sucker to believe this are you?

Such footballers are a rare breed and I dare you to suggest an English player who does more good for the image of English footballer and acts a role model for todays youths

I can think of a far better ambassador for English football - Michael 'Mr Squeaky Clean' Owen!!!

P1Fanatic,

I think you have missed my point.

As a referee to kids games aswell as mens, I find that more and more dangerous tackles on the pitch, over the 9 years I have refereed, gradually I have been booking more and more players because they see Beckham get away with near murder on the pitch and they think it is okay.

With regards to the charity image? Doesn't every celebrity do it so they can be seen to be nice? Dare I say it - a lot of it is publicity.

Funkii only some games, NOT ALL THE TIME!!! Thats what I mean about watching games on television Houllier is a good tactician and plays and puts out a team accordingly depending on the opposition. But whatever, it works.....TOP OF THE PREMIERSHIP
