joop! NO NEED TO SHOUT!
Point taken, but fair to say not the average view as I read so far. There are a fair few people who in fact are put off by go-faster bits that tend to be associated with a certain mentality. Ownership of such a boy-racer car may not bother you, but I wouldn't say I was that image-conscious to feel slightly uncomfortable about this getting out of hand - an image like the XR3i's, etc. attracted a few (or is it many?) years ago.
Never saw that happen with a jag or a Porsche - just a shame that the Tmpreza turbo seems to be heading down the other road.

why did u say the lowley cossie??
are u gay?
theres nothing wrong with cossies u daft muppet, apart from the fact that there not as new as the imprezas theres nothing the mater with them and they have a much better desinged engine
as above^^^ what he said
i bought my impreza becuase i always wanted one ever scince i saw and heard one blast down a road when they were new, they are fast capable cars
i definitly did NOT buy my car for its image as to be honest the image of the cars nowadays is crap, the max brigade are out in force with flamer kits, lexus lights and vent to atmos dump valves
cars look nice with a nice spoiler and clear indicators etc etc
but stupid neons and all the other crap is to much
unfortuantly theres not many cars that are free from this kind of "modding"

StikeyMikey No need to be rude! I'm neither a Cossie- or any other sorta basher. Can't see why my views would lead you to assume you know my proclivities, but maybe you really do understand...
And glad to see that you support my point.

Two things I had which I am proud of. I had a pair of Dr Martins 18 holers when I was 8 as they were the only shoe I couldnt destroy in 10 minutes and I also had an impreza turbo (not at 8 years old though ). Had them both before they became cool and a must have item . LOL fashion victims eat your hearts out and there are a few .

I'm 22, So a young driver! I saved up for a nice car! Why did I choose a scooby?
1) I followed the world rally for as long as I can remember and the scoob was the car I fell in love with, After seeing it take the rally by storm after it's debut, and it built up an astonishing rep with many many wins etc etc!
2) It's different, Some people call it ugly, I think it's aggressive! it looks like a rally car, not like your run of the mill car you find driving about! you stand out!
3) Performance for the price you pay? When they came out, almost no car could come anywhere near the impreza for sheer performance and rep at such a low price (in other words not hiddeously expensive like the porche and the likes!), and yes, there are faster cars out there! farrari, porche, etc etc, but chuck em on a twisty set of roads, esp in wet conditions, even these super cars would have problems keeping on the tail of an STI or maybe even the standark UK turbos!
As for the guy who said about moddifying, big wings etc and taking it away from it's rally herritage, Did you actually look at the wing on the actuall rally car? It's ****ing huge compared to the uk turbo's!!! So slapping on a WRC wing is not taking it away from it's rally herritage, it's actually taking it nearer!
*Note: Yes, before you say it, I know that there are mods that make it more boyracer than rally, but you have to admit, the majority of people who mod them know where the line is between a good modification towards the rally look and the boy racer look! It's really the minority who have to go for the pimp mobiles!!!!
I love all the aspects of the scoob! Thats why I bought it, and thats why I will keep it! SCOOBYPOWER!!!!!!!!!!

I must admit that the Scoob is starting to show something of a trend towards the tw*t drivers. You always used to be assured that 99 out a 100 scoobs you'd see on the motorway would be quick but courteous. Now you are really starting to see some w*nkers driving them. Did this deter me? no. I love the scoob not for its image (although I still think of its rallying moments) but for the performance and the handling. I don't think you'll see the scoob ending up in the same bracket as for example the Nova - no matter how cheap it gets, the insurance is still going to kill the hopes of the revvin' kevins.
And no I don't have a downer on all modded cars, I think if done right a modified car can be a very nice peice of kit - its all about the attitude of the guy/gal who does it. Someone who just sticks the biggest wheels/exhaust they can find on a Nova/Saxo/Astra/Polo and drops it to the floor and thinks that it makes them cool - I don't have the time of day for them.
Someone who puts the time and effort into really making a car something special and unique - are ok in my book.
I've had people (even some of my friends who should know better) calling me a boy racer for wanting to buy a scoob - and I don't care. I know that I'm not the sort of driver that alot of people think of when they think of a "boy racer". I don't think that the road belongs to me and I don't go round flipping the V's at everyone I see. I for one don't think the scoob deserves the "boy racer" reputation and although it would never stop me from owning one, I'd still really hate to be looked down on by people who think I'm something I'm not!

I bought my scoob because i fell in love with it after the test-drive. I had a number of cars on my list but the scooby won hands down for sheer all round driving excitement. I cant say that the changing image didnt concern me at one point but after the test-drive I really couldnt care less about what anyone else thought!

I'm sorry, i'm one of those who needs to modify my car.
The standard 240bhp for mine is yawningly slow in my opinion.
It wont look overly modified from the outside but i'm afraid that you'l be able to walk inside my exhaust.

Beefy, My sentiment exactally!
If people don't like my car, fine, don't look at it, it doesn't bother me! I've had a few people call me a boy-racer cause i am so young and drive such a high power car, And especially those on here who might label me as a boy racer, you couldn't be further from the truth!
I took out time to do the advanced driving, which took alot of work and time, and I passed the advanced driving test a few weeks back! How many boy racers do you know who would give the advanced driving a second thought? almost none! cause most of them are complete tossers and would consider it an old fogies thing!
besides most of these boy racers couldn't hope to afford one! I pay through the nose for my insurance, my parents think I'm nuts paying so much! but then for me, it's a privilege to own such a great car! and I work damned hard to afford it!

I'd probably agree if the title was Impreza Turbo 2000 ownership has a gloomy future.
Certainly there are a lot of crap areas in Nottingham and loads of the scum are now driving about in Imprezas that are 6-10 years old. I don't want to offend the genuine scum but I must admit I've lumped the boyracers (and other people who wear caps backwards), small-time drug dealers and muggers into the same group with you.
The only Imprezas that do seem to get the respect they deserve around here are the limited edition P1s, 22Bs and the new WRX/ STIs. Oh and the white ones with blue lights on the roof.

Dear oh dear - if the car is good it becomes popular - if its bad it (usually) doesnt. If Subaru had desgined a dog of a car then you would be fine as no one else would want or have one! Go buy a Yugo! You'll be fine then - and Decent Cossies are worth far more than decent Similar Scoobies as there are far less of them.

Good for you m8 and well done on passing your ADC.
I think its wrong to assume that just because someone is young they arent an enthusiast who bought the scooby because they love driving it. Young driver does not always = boy racer imo.
I'm no spring chicken as I had to wait until I was in my early 30's to get the scoob I wanted but good on you for choosing the car you did and enjoying the experience.

scoobywon't
as far as your comments about scum driving 6-10 year old cars, i don't know how often you look out of your "my car's better than yours co's it's newer" sad little world, but most of the people i know with 6 year old scooby's have worked and saved damn hard to buy them.

had a legacy gx, wanted a gtb2, and got talked out of it for a jap94wrx wagon! Have to sell her soon, but have to say i will never enjoy driving any future car as much as my impreza... if i had the cash, id get a forrester turbo or the gtb2, only beause im old and family need the space!!! but, subaru are the bollocks!!!, thanks to a bizzare turbo boost enhancer, from a friend who knows far too much about the boxer engine, im now pulling 270bhp, for about £150!! plus, have to say, the old right foot is often to the floor!!
martin
i love the escort cozzie, and the focus rs, but the impreza, because of its availability, is a genuine( especially jap imports) super car for "da youf", if they can afford the insurance, the car is stupidly cheap!!
Still a ****** beauty though

The person in the next thread that stated that the subaru is not "a rally icon" is ball+@cs! We would not be driving these cars if it was not for the rally events that these cars were staged in or the events that the first model subaru won!

Canuck,
I find it very hard to understand why you find clear indicator boyracer'ish..??? The orange indicators look totally crap and go with nothing on the car colour wise... At least clear indicators suit the headlights and sidelights...
I do however agree about neons.. which look ****e..!!!!

I Have an eight year old Impreza Turbo, I inported it six years ago, and love it so much I can't bring myself to part with it, even though I can affored a new one.
MY Question is WHEN did I become "scum" and will it hurt
To old to wear a cap backwards , Self rightious pr*k comes to mind. Just enjoy your car and leave others to enjoy there's, whatever they drive.
