After speaking to a local Subaru dealer this weekend, the last of the classic turbo prices will not be affected that much.

The salesman/dealership said that Subaru had made a BIG mistake with the bugeye. This mistake would ensure that people still wanted a classic turbo (v,w,x reg) as these were the most popular.

The only bugeye that may not be affected IMHO, will be the Prodrive STi......

Just my 2p

Jeez, do you guys get this upset over Sainsury's running a special offer on baked beans?

Subaru are totally within their rights to have a clearance sale - in fact all manufacturers do offer savings when a new model is due to arrive...

When Audi slashed their prices two years ago the motoring press were on their backs immediately, to such an effect that Audi did in fact fully reimburse customers who had cars on order, or had taken delivery within the last month or so.

The only difference between that instance and this, is the motoring press keeping schtumm.

I think this is getting out of hand. There's always something better/cheaper what seems like a nano second after you get a new bit of kit. Thats life I'm afraid.

This is a fckin expensive tin of beans. Second only to a house a car is the most expensive commodity you are ever likely to purchase so please dont trivialise with analogies from your weekly shop.

Hmmm,

Can't really compare a tin of beans on special to £3k can you? Maybe the cars themselves are similar to the tin though...

David

As a subaru dealer what are your thoughts on used values then? A september 52reg car, is it gonna be worth the same as an october 52 reg car at £3less? Or in 6months is the newer car gonna be £3k less or will they both be the same? And what about those 2 cars both being purchased on PCP?
I assume dealers just get a rebate on cars they've bought at a higher price?
and the used stock - how does that affect you or other dealers? Looking at Subarus used car site, theres loads of WRXs for sale between £19 and £22k - whats the crack with that - will you just get left with "overpriced" stock, or will you have to sell at zero profit or will IM give a rebate?

hmmm, what about if you bought a house and then the market crashed. you couldn't claim back from the seller or estate agent, bank of england etc. could you?

Anyway, it's not nice losing money or value of your cars etc. and I do symathise but it's the way of the world, we get lucky, we get unlucky.

If you get some compensation, good on you & good luck but I am sceptical that this would happen unless you'd very very recently bought a scoob.

If price was the no1 reason that drove people to buy these cars from UK main dealers then they should have looked at the alternatives. You have always been able to buy EU imports from 16K and can now order MY03's for roughly the same price, its been RIP OFF BRITAIN for ages and I thought everyone knew that ??? If you had bought an EU import you would still save a fortune over the new "discounted" prices.
There was an article in a sunday paper two weeks ago about the MD of IM awarding himself a salary of something like 18million UKP, I wonder where he gets that from ?
I suppose its just our rip off dealers bringing themselves into line with Europe for a few months, then banging the prices up again cos they know people will pay the money......

Vote with your feet and never buy from UK main dealers unless they match Euro prices

>> at that point no mention was made of the radical restyling >>that it actually got.

its been mentioned for many, many months, the 1st rumour said Prodrive were doing a full restyle apart from the glass, I think that was mentioned over a year ago.

Audi gave people money back when they added spec to the standard Audi TT, maybe worth searching out what they did and the timescales involved re cut off dates etc.

I don't mean to sound harsh, but in some ways you sound as if you want to have your cake and to eat it. You state you couldn't get any more off your car because they gave you a good price on your old car and a good finance deal. Ultimately, there is only so much they can play with. I bet with the price reductions now you wouldn't get the deal you got. The headline figure of how much the car cost might be different, but I doubt the total cost will have changed. You wouldn't now get as much for your trade in or the same finance deal.

I agree with DanTheMan -- you were already happy paying £6k more than the cost of an import so what's the problem?

Right outside the lot of you know!! ..............

The conclusion to all this is that if you want something doing - do it yourslef. And thats what I have done. I asked advice on this forum and tried to drum up support, but alas to no avail. It seems however that whilst doing this I have stirred up a hornets nest. Well 'amen' to that because by the sounds of it this has been a long time coming. The only winners here are IM.

Lets see what happens and if nothing comes of it well hey its the cost of a stamp. BUT if something does come of it well you can probably imagine the fun I am going to have wiping off the smug grins of quite a few peoples faces on this forum.

Thank you very much and goodnight.

I'm a little dissapointed at your last post.

Just because people chose not to support you, it doesn't mean they are bad people! Your stand point may be completely wrong in their eyes?

If IM posted on here saying "support group needed - people don't understand our commercial pressures", would you post in there saying "ok mate.. I'll help you out".

Just because people don't agree with you it doesn't mean you're the only one that's right.

Good luck with your cause. I really hope it works out best for everyone.

All the best

Gents,

We are all victims of fashion - the reduced product lifecycles of modern technology.

Many years ago it took a great deal of effort to design, develop, prototype and produce even the simplest of products.

With modern day rapid prototyping coupled with sophisticated production methods - and the Consumer's thirst for the latest of everything - it is only natural that manufacturers are more than willing to release newer versions of products at more regular intervals.

Don't forget that the manufacturer relies on producing and selling new products - his colleagues in marketing demand it.

The best that we can expect is to enjoy driving the latest model for a year or so. Anything more would be a bonus! The alternative would be to change cars every year - now my wife would love that!

Moral of the story - let the buyer be aware - you makes your choice - make it wisely!

Every scooby is a classic!

Korky

I think the repricing is great ... So I've bought another one for the Missus! Nice little 2.0GX with a rucksack on its back!

All in for £13,430 - no complaints here 'cos we like the bugeyes.

If SUK had announced a price increase I doubt everyone would be offering them the extra money and complaining about the extra value on their cars come resale time
Couldn't have put it better myself.

Fact is that people all want to buy their cars cheaper, but sell them for more money. Unfortunately, the economics of such a scenario just don't stack up.

Simon (moderator),

I am also disappointed with the way that you have handled this whole issue. Lets not forget that after my initial rant it was YOU who suggested the format of this thread - this was not my idea. You then openly admit that you DO NOT agree with what I had done. I have only been using this forum for a few months and foolishly assumed that a moderator would provide honest, impartial advice to those of a lesser status. I would have appreciated an honest off-line mail rather than being used as a sacrificial pawn for the benefit of bigger issues which are ******* this forum.

I hope we can all learn something from this and move on.

No hard feelings.

Cheers

I think Simon was not defending your opinion, but your right to give it. In view of the way the other thread wandered off-target, he suggested this thread as a way of airing your views (which he, personally as SDB, doesn't agree with) and gauging response. With his moderator/webmaster hat on, that's what he should do.

It appears, however, that the response isn't what you were expecting and now you're throwing your toys out of the pram

Indeed.

Russ, FYI Simon is more than just a moderator, he owns and runs scoobynet providing this service free of charge to all and sundry who wish to use it.

I can't see why you're taking the hump with the way this thread is going - you've asked for opinions, and got 'em?

Life would be a lot easier if we could all have a virtual pint together, as I'm sure this sort of misunderstanding, or general conflict of views, would be sorted out in 5 seconds over a beer

Nick.

I have not got the hump with Simon - far from it. I hope a lot of good actually comes from all these threads as there are many lessons to be learnt here.

Now wheres that virtual bar...... cheers

Having read through most of the replies on this thread, IMHO the important part missing from everyones arguement is that this new reduction will only make a difference to you if you are looking to sell your WRX in the next few months!

To our knowledge, this is not an indefinate / permanent price reduction, it only lasts until the current model stock has been depleted!
It not only affects UK buyers but those who have imports as well, (after all the gap between the two is a lot closer now!), so should SUK compensate these guys too?

This is common practise for Manufacturers to run a product out, with most other marques, they tend to "up-spec" the run out model, I think SUK have got it right, and left the mods on these cars to you guys! (and given you some cash to spend on them too by reducing the initial cost!), After all we are all different, and like different mods!

True, this should increase sales for SUK, but they are in business after all.
The nice thing about this is we should hopefully all be able to greet some new Scooby owners, which in turn should make Sites like this, and all the guys who earn a crust through retro styling and servicing, more opportunity to stabilise what is notoriously a temperamental market place. In the long run it should give them the ability to offer even better pricing than they do now!
Just my personal point of view, but thats what Simon and the Crew here created this site for after all!

Whether it is right or wrong,IM have a glut of WRX's, like the P1 prices of the remaining cars had to be dropped so that they can be sold. I don't think it's personal, just business.IMHO

Beech Boy - spoken like a true Dealer m8!

Have to say though that I agree with you. After all you sold me my car and I was happy with the deal at the time. It is unfortunate for me that the prices have come down but "cest la vie!"

Can you save me an STi next time - maybe in March 2005 when I have finnished paying for this one.
