I also had my PPP fitted today, I can only endorse what Dave and John Stewart have said, the ppp has made great improvement to the vehicle, we are talking standard P1 (my last wheels) performance now complete with sophisticated ride quality. The 4k slap in the back has gone, the whole package works seamlessly together, for the cynics out there, this is why its taken the time and effort to get it right and its worth the wait! It’s not a fire breathing rocket ship, but, a tool specifically designed to eat tarmac at a frightening rate! Only on track would you be realistically arguing the about speed.

As Dave says the torque out of the corners is the most improved aspect the centre diff can now push the available power to the front axle. As has been said before the most simple compassion is like having another gear, you now drive from 3k to the limiter, and that come around very quickly. Part of the ppp should be moving the rev ‘buzzer’ from the crank to the speedo! A 100mph comes very very quickly.

I would also like to thank Prodrive, especially Mike Wood for the effort and development that’s gone into this package. The Sti is a great car, add a ppp and it’s a fantastic car!

For the first time since selling the P1, I have been out for a quick blast in the Sti to confirm just how good this package now is and to maintain the smile factor!

If your thinking about a PPP get down to your dealer and try it, make sure you take your cheque book, you'll need it!

I can’t add any more to the good things that have said above, other than to say I fully concur with all that is said. The car is completely transformed and is one serious piece of kit. As John S mentioned above I have never been off the head of the road since I got home on Wed afternoon.

The pull the car has is fantastic and the torque for overtaking in 4th gear on B roads, when you are following 50 mph trucks and the like is incredible. On motorway driving, just leave it in 6th, and just sink the foot and you’re away. I always used to drop down the box when wanting to move quickly. Travelled over 200 miles yesterday on a journey that I have undertaken many times and noticed that the fuel consumption is much better than I have seen when the car was standard and from what I got in my modded MY99. Also much better than my mates P1, which I baby-sit half the year.

Now hears the real interesting bit; had the car on the rolling road yesterday and we only managed one power run, right at the end of the day. Star Performance where having some problems with other cars and we were delayed by two hours. I did want to do some trials with the Magnex exhaust and straight through mid sections, but we ran out of time. So from the run we did I got the following data,
300 BHP at 6710 PRM
265 Ft/lbs torque at 4380 RPM
225 BHP at the wheels
I don’t have a boost gauge fitted yet and we didn’t have time to set anything up, we merely drove it on the RR, tied it down and did one power run and I left after a quick chat with John Banks, who was there working on a fellow Scoobynetters car. John had some thoughts about why we did not see the 300 ft/lbs torque at 4000 RPM.

I kind of figure that the above figures will cause some controversy, all I can say is this is what they were and it is the first time I have had a car of mine on a RR. I'm going to head back down and we will spent the time required to gather more data.

On the rollers the car does not boost as much as it does on the road. ECU maps (factory and aftermarket) tend to be sparing with maximum midrange duty cycle to stop overboost. In doing this on the rolling road sometimes cars do not reach target boost in the midrange killing the torque figure. At the top end where the turbo is less frisky, maximum duty cycles can be high enough that it will still hold top end boost on the rollers but not on the road.

From what I heard, Prodrive usually figure their cars on engine dynos, but the setup of those needs careful controls as well.

It seems that ECU diagnostics equipment will continue to report incorrect boost on the STi 7 PPP, but Mutant_Matt is going to tell me that soon.

My car without PPP is on a "Closed road" would achieve 6th on one section but now does in three but have notice since PPP fitted 6th gear 110-150 time down. this could be what Russell reported that low boost in 6th. MAYBE why rolling roads reflect a low torque figure might be to do with tests done in sixth and ECU had Lessened boost. IMHO

I have to agree with dave the car is much improved smoother, Faster and more controlable, Loads more Torque for pulling out of corners Suretrac diffs just love more Power

Tony

Ps Dave so was this the last time Carolyn will let you drive her PPP'd car LOL

It's interesting you should say that the over 100mph performance is down.

That explains a lot the official timing figures that show a very good 0-100mph time but a standing quarter mile time that is only slightly better than the standard car.

So lets get this right then - and no I do not drive a BMW - you have paid 2k for an exhaust and a computer re-program and have lost the very thing that differentiates the scooby from the rest of the pack, that is the kick up the **** at 4000 revs, so you now have the linear power output of an M3, are you going to spray the wheels silver and fit leather seats next?

Yep,
But in the Sti7 case 1000-4000 wasn't like a Subaru more like a wet F4rt The kick in the *** was but the pain didn't last long IMHO

This isn't the first thread I've seen which mentions a Rev warning light/buzzer (apparently adjustable as to warning threshold); and a light certainly came on in the car I drove at Prodrive earlier in the year. Nothing happens in this respect in my car, even when I get close to the redline.

So, how do you switch on the function, and set the threshold, please??

I'll miss the kick in the back, tho' this seems strangely at odds with the comment that 50-70 overtakes are better, since I - for one - try to be close to 4000 revs before starting such an overtake......

can't remember the exact method of setting the red line warning buzzer and light, but basically there is "thing" similar to the trip counter reset on the dash but to the left of the rev counter.

from memory, with the engine off, you turn it to right and the revs go up in the lcd box and to the left to decrease and that's it.

You can do it with the engine on as well. If you turn it to the right and hold it there it toggles between off, light only and light/buzzer.

Buzzer?
As the man says RTFM!

I worked it out on my one and only STi7 test drive without a manual - it's not tricky

I have waited to see what the comments about the PPP were before committing to fitting it - in the meantime I have replaced the rear box with an HKS hyper muffler, fitted an ITG filter and iridium plugs and a TurboXS boost control - the difference in performance was staggering, there was no running out of breath above 6000 rpm and the sound is awesome, the cold running for the first mile or so is slightly jumpy at times but the whole engine and pull has been transformed - cost £ 900.00 - warranty probably u/s but maybe the dealer might overlook as all fitted parts are easily replaced anyway. It wuld b interesting to compare mine with a PPP'd STI

From what I have read I may have saved £2k a couple of weeks ago. If I want torque at 1500 revs I'll use either the Range Rover or Land Rover, 4.6 V8 and 4.2 V8 respectively

Steve,
Now a few weeks on since PPP fitted and its brill think of £2K wasting away in the bank and you'll get rid of those OEM tyres 3 times as fast with PPP

You only lose £1K the cars value has increased by £1K and no warrenty issues

Dave,
Whats the best Tyre to get on these 17" next ?? I did like the So2's on the my old 16" but not keen on F1's
what Pressures ? I've been running F38 R32

Turbo XS boost running at ( I think 1.2 bar ), fitted by a very professional outfit, RC Developements near Northwich, it sounds like it does everything that the PPP does and then some.

Stuck Toyos on my 18's, and Carolyn went for S03's on her 17's. I kindly scrubbed them in for her on the way back from Tyres Northampton
