<Sighs>,

Yes, that is what VHS was invented for.

However, TiVo was invented to change the way you watch TV, it records everything you want to watch, and things that match your viewing profile that it thinks you might like to watch. You then watch them, at your leisure, without adverts.

There are loads of TiVo users out there, and they seem to all be managing perfectly without having to plug the VCR in all the time. However, if you want a VCR, go and buy one

And, as has been said before, if you really must use a TiVo like a VCR, then you rent a second set top box, you get live TV from one, and Tivo records from the other. This is possible with the money you save by not buying the Sky+

BigGT3Fan, I think you're getting carried away with the geek-ness of TiVo.

At the end of the day we buy these things to record the programs we missed when we were out the previous night, etc...

I don't NEED to change the way I watch TV - I'm perfectly happy with the way I currently watch TV and I don't need to trawl through the stuff TiVO has recorded for me because it THINKS it knows what I like.

I need a box that will record the program I TELL IT TO.
I need a box that records one channel while I watch another
I want brilliant recording quality
I want it made by a company that will be around tomorrow.

...I got everthing I wanted with Sky+

Thumbs down

The only reason Sky+ can record/watch at the same time is because the box contains two tuners. TiVo can record/watch two terrestrial channels at the same time, but cannot do this with sky or digital any more than a VHS recorder can. But that's because TiVo does not (and obviously cannot) contain a secondary Sattelite/digital decoder. Duh.

For those of us who don't have (and don't want) Sky, I can't see any limitation with TiVo.

Here's my view.

I ain't paying Sky £10 more a month for the next squillion years on top of the purchase and installation price.

So Tivo you can tell it to auto-record all sorts of stuff, ie series, Eastenders, record on keywords, ie premiere, "my favourite artist".

I can see how people quite easily never watch live TV anymore with Tivo.

Then you can watch something you have recorded before whilst it records something new.

regards,

Greg

"Then you can watch something you have recorded before whilst it records something new."

Another feature Sky+ shares with TiVo.

Each to his own I suppose. As long as we're all happy with our purchases
