Red face

$hit happens.

Don't go on track thinking it won't happen to you. It could. If you can't afford to have an incident like this dont go on track.

I hope the driver is OK.

The SIDC booked sessions on track for SIDC member only driving Subaru's only.

I am an SIDC member but wasnt allowed to take my Westfield out with the SIDC group.

I wont ever do a trax day, it's poor value IMHO.

Well said Tim Taylor,

The session with the P1 incident was my only one of the day but don't really give a monkeys more worried about the driver and his car.

Personally will not be doing another TRAX event down to the boy racer types it attracts will only do SIDC events from now on. As for the muppets who complain about spending 20 quid on SIDC membership then the club is better off without them.

No one so far has mentioned what a fantastic turnout from SIDC members in OUR arena well over 100 cars.

My THANKS to Stef and the team from Tyres Northampton for all the hard work.

Whilst feeling every sympathy for any of the involved parties, I agree with John. If you can't afford to smash it get insurance, if you still can't afford to smash it don't do it.

Maybe we should all take a look at the position we would be in if the same thing happened to us .....

I agree that TRAX is getting more 'Max Power' than before. I know it's bad value for money but how often do you get to drive round Silverstone. I would only do it on SIDC sessions, not the free for all as the standard of driving from the other sessions I watched was, well, not in the best interest of the sport - if you know what I mean.

Will I go next year - probably!

I believe any Impreza owning members will get preference of places over yourself (or myself) - and given that SIDC days are always fully subscribed (AFAIK) ....

After last year at Trax, paid for two sessions which lasted two laps due to cars spining off (SIDC time) and never having done a track day b4 I decided not to bother this time. Then a mate offered me a free slot with the Redline group, which ranged from a corsa to Martin Hadlands mental Reyland escort cossie. I sat in the pits head thumping with adrenalin and went out on the warm up lap. As soon as the pace car moved off the fiesta put his foot down and spun, end of session. We all went and had a moan and they got some of us back on with another slot including said Porsche I think it was a 993. I've watched tracks b4 so understood about track eticut and most of these guys were great, I made the mistake of overtaking on the right once (never though till I'd done it). But the porsche was just out to prove he was king, I wanted to get past on corners but it got bunched up so I hung back and on two occasions he came on the inside and took us all. Its no wonder he spun. At least I got five laps this time.

Doesn't work that way gary.

I run an Impreza and a Westfield and I am also an SIDC member.

I dont want to take my Impreza on track, thats why i have the westie.

If i enter an SIDC track day i go on a reserve list. Only if there are places left will i get to join in with my Westie. So i dont get the same benefits as subaru drivers on track even though i payed the same money to join the club.

I am not going to get all wound up about this now though, there are plenty of other track events out there for me of a high standard.

As to driving Silverstone, been there done that, it's nothing special. I wont drive my car in the same session as a bunch of boy racers playing to the crowds, i value my life.

I do like the Lexus style rear-light clusters though.

Hmmm...

I missed out on TRAX and went to Castle Coombe instead. A couple of nasty prangs there, too. But in the main it sounds much better behaved.

I'm sick of hearing people moaning about Stef and the SIDC regarding this event. The vast majority of people have no idea how much work Stef put into this - do you think he just turned up on the day to marshal everybody ? He worked his nadgers off to get this thing running smoothly and all we hear is how a non-member is pissed off he couldn't get on track ??????? You could always get off your **** and do something about it yourself !!!!!

I'm not a big mate of Stef or anything - I met him at last years' TRAX, and again yesterday, but he has put in 110% effort to ensure everyone has a good time, so give the guy a break !

I was in the track session with the P1 incident, I was about 3 cars behind him. Whilst I have every sympathy for the driver being injured and for him probably writing off his car, I believe it was entirely his own fault. He clearly ignored everything said in the briefing - he overtook 3 cars on the inside IMMEDIATELY after the pace car went in, and tried to take a high speed corner on cold tyres, no building up speed gradually, considering other drivers or anything, just GLF !

For my £25 track session and £25 insurance I got one lap behind the pace car, and one lap under a red flag, so yes, I'm pissed off, but thats the chance you take. I still had a fantastic day and have no hesitation in going next year. I only hope Stef doesn't get pissed off with all the griping and not bother next year, because it wouldn't be the same without all the effort he puts in.

As far as I'm concerned, you've done a great job mate, and I am eternally grateful. Don't let the buggers grind you down !

Agree with Tony -- it's hard (particularly on a bulletin board) to put into words your complaints without it looking like a bitch at the SIDC. So, simply put:

First time I went to a Trax event - fun , but I'm glad I decided not to take my car out on the track. I watched from the stadium and just saw too many cars driving dangerously.

First time I met Stef as well - Good bloke running round like a headless chicken trying to keep everyone happy. I think he deserves a big thanks.

Didn't think much of the retail outlets, not much Scooby stuff on display e.g clothing etc.

(oh and the 18 year old driving the pink golf, had just had it resprayed. Then stuck two wheels in the gravel trap at speed but kept going. Resulted in stone chips from hell)..... As i say glad i wasn't out there with that t***er

Well, I had a fantastic day.....

Two great sessions... Got the full time, 'cos everyone was well behaved. Maybee splitting the session into Experienced and Newbie payed off

Interesting that it was the Track Newbie session where the **** hit the fan... Would have thought if you were new to all this, you would pay more attention at the breifing

Personally, I enjoy the Max Power element at the show... These guys are just as passionate about their cars as we are and I enjoy nosing around things that are a bit different Some of the other sights were quite easy on the eye too

My only gripe... Did anyone see what they had done to that purple Scoobie on the REVS stand... MY GOD IT WAS HORRIBLE......

Anyway, BIG THANKS for Stef for once again organising a top day out Back next year? Oh Yes!

Agree with the previous post that said... Lets make more of the stand.... Would be nice to really stand out... A WRC on display perhaps? Someone must have some contacts

James.

WOW. to see such extremes in one single day!

Thanks to Stef for organising the day and all the other SIDC 'operatives' who made today work.

Heartfelt sympathies to "The P1 owner" (ring me when you get the chance mate),who lost it at Copse, I saw happen it and it seemed to last forever, (rolled 2 times).

Like John Said, **** can happen I'm glad everyone is safe!

A good day, I'm tired, my legs ache, I'm off to bed.

P.S. 'Sticky Pete', you'll go blind, is there a spare one?

Agree with Felstie (for once )

There are enough ijits out there that make you appreciate participating in a well run & safe event & that also means I pick my venues & co-players.

I prefer to run my scoob as opposed to the Vectra on track so have full benefit of the club This helps in getting VFM as well as a great event.

Squizz,
with you on the lights on the purple moster, would look nice on the blackbeast I think

OK, I've never been on track, except as a passenger, so I've got no real place commenting on this, but....

as mentioned, I did get some passenger laps at the SIDC brands hatch event last year. Once again, at that event Stef and the rest of the SIDC team (seems many have forgot to mention the others @ SIDC ), worked like cart horses to make sure everyone had a good time and it was well organised. Think the difference is that the BH day was us and just us, not us and every other club and his dog/bird

If anyone, especially newbies, feels let down by the Trax event then get along to a SIDC only day, ie; brands in november (mmmm, scoobs love the wet!) OK so you DO have to be an SIDC member, but that's only 20 quid a year, I'm a member and as some may know I've ranted and raved about SIDC being a 'track only' club, "not enough social events" etc.... (I AM NOT HAVING A GO (well, not at the moment - THIS IS A JOKE, OK?) but I am still a member, so it can't be that bad. and as stated they do excellent track stuff, and I am being very serious here.

Maybe it should have been made clearer that you'd needed SIDC membership to get into the SIDC sessions @ Trax - maybe it WAS stated in the various threads on here, I don't know, I did not really read them as I was not going, and don't think that Trax would make a good first trackday (just my personal opinion), would prefer a proper scooby only one for that (or scoobs and other 'select' cars, eg; like last years BH event - but due to various things (BHLG?) we won't see that again

anyway, just my 2p worth.

Babber.
I suggest you take back everything you've said because you clearly have no idea what the **** you are talking about!
TRAX is an event for car clubs to attend. I booked FOUR sessions exclusively for the SIDC. All the cars in these sessions were Imprezas being driven by SIDC members.
Sod off and get your facts right before coming on here and slagging me off!

Have to agree with Stef on this (crikey, me agreeing with Stef )

I read the "trax update" thread in "trackdays and national events" section, Stef states in at least 2 places you will need a SIDC pass and be on his list, else no playtime. Don't see no comments from anyone asking if you need to be SIDC, guess saying that you'd need a SIDC pass kinda gives that away.

Thus there is no reason to get upset that you could not get on without one.

To be honest, if I was going to an event with a scoob, and SIDC was mentioned anywhere in conjunction with said event then I'd make sure I'd check with SIDC wether I needed to be a member to get on track before turning up, or at least have posted the question, might have got some silly responses from people, but then you'd have had the answer.

not trying to nark off anyone, just trying to point out as nicely as possible that you really need to check things before turning up, no matter how silly they may seem at the time.

You will be made welcome at any of the SW meets. A large number of us are not in the SIDC.
None of the SW lads that I know have ever done a SIDC track day. In the old days we could never get a place and since then we have never bothered with SIDC track days.
We do loads of other trackdays and airport days. We are a friendly bunch and will not tell you to "**** off".
Our meets are not SIDC meets, they are meets for any car enthusiast. We even get cossie's owners come to the meets and trackdays.

P1 Owner/
Very sorry to hear about the car,. Try not to let it bother you about these saying you were going to fast or your tyres were cold. The track is for going fast and mishaps will happen. I have seen the best of the scooby drivers come off the track on there first lap. Hope you get it all sorted out to your satisfaction.

Bob, Tracey, etc cheers I will come and meet you all. We were thinking about having a Impreza supporters **** up at Chipping Sodbury high street one night. Starting in the Portcullis Hotel (we know the management might be good for a late one, chaep rooms there too) on Saturday evening one day, you lot up for it? Details can be found at :-

letsgodownthepub.com

By the way I've decided to join the SIDC and become an elitist like a few others on here.

Enough said ?

Fame at last!!

That'd make your car the dark blue one on split five spoke split rims? The Porsche you mention in the Redline session was a silver Boxster, the one that crashed out was a dark blue 993 and afaik nothing to do with the Redline time.
