well, news travels and ive heard this from the PGAC, so ill add my sympathies here.

Looks like a bad crash that you were lucky to get out of, but i would also say you were very unlucky to get into that situation in the first place.

Topics gone a bit extreme in some places, but i get daves points etc. but we've all done it, i have, but ive got a little engined car, so the effects are never that extreme, tahnk god.

ps: im new, and as slating each others cars seems to be popular at the mo

heres mine:

and

im a student, its a start!!

I like Pugs.

They make some great handling chassis.

So there.

yeah there is it does tend to get a bit heated on here sometimes, mainly from people who only come on here to cause grief and that's a shame the my wheelbarrow is faster than your scoob is getting quite a popular type of thread to have on here now and that's a shame. Yes there are lots of cars faster than scoobs but the scoob is a great car that is very cheap to buy (not always to run) compared to others that offer the same performance. Personally i don't see the point in modifying cheap cars like nova's, fiesta's and the likes yes you might be able to get something that is really fast up a 1/4 mile strip but its normally hand grenade tuned and badly done at that, so low it has the same excuses as trains sorry there was leaf's on the road i couldn't get over them and also ruins its road holding cars don't have to be dropped 60mm to handle better more often than not it gets worse but no one will admit it so full of filler it puts another 20kg on its weight and have half a ton of ice in the boot to make all the filler fall back out again
THERE IS MORE TO LIFE THAN FAST CARS

Not on here to cause trouble, I heard about this from the PGAC Forum (a mate of mine is on there) and have seen that a few of the VW lads have been getting a hard time on here so I thought I'd help make peace.

I own a Polo GT Coupe, it's lightly modified and it's not the quickest, flashiest car on the road but I like it.

There are plenty of cars about I like (the Impreza being one of them) but that I'll never own, and plenty I don't like also. However, just because I don't like a car does not mean I go slating the owner because he or she doesn't own a Volkswagen like I do. I respect people for being into their own car for what it is, be it a 1.0 litre Corsa covered in bodykit (not really to my taste but if the owner likes it then good for them) or a full on competition spec racer whatever brand it may be if the owner's fond of it good for them.

Bickering over what brand you own just seems daft. Would you abuse someone who wears Reebok trainers just because you prefer Nike? Would make fun of someone who shops in Tesco because you're an Asda person? IMHO the "my car's better than yours" arguments that seem to be springing up on just about every board these days are just as fickle and sad as that.

We had a Ford owner's invasion on one of the VAG forums recently, sparked all sorts of stupid arguments. When the more liberal Ford enthusiasts came on to defend their brand they pointed out that there was about as much space for these people on their forums as there was on ours. VW and Ford owners came together and realised that enthusiasm was stronger than what badge you have on your grille.

We're all into our cars, so let's respect each other's tastes shall we? Peace.

LOL, ill take over longun.

i know what you mean about modded cars that are so low they would bounce round and off a corner, before even looking at it. And ill be the first to admit my car isnt fast. its a 1.1 for a start, with a whopping 60bhp!! but thats for insurance reasons, and yeah, if you check out the PGAC forum youll find most people on there care more about A to B times than 1/4 mile times. I would rather have a car thats top speed was 90, but had the chassis to keep at 90 round the bends, than a barge which top speed is huge, but cant steer. thats why scoobies are great, good handling and decent speed makes a fast car.

I'll second that.

These days 0-60/0-100/quarter mile times aren't regarded as the be all and end all of what makes a good car. Handling is also a major factor.

Mine's good fun down country lanes, it handles well and it's quick enough to bring a smile to my face. In my book that's what a car should do, make you happy to drive it.

Speed isn't everything, fun is far more important.

m.barnes i've just realised why i reckognise your car, you're talking to my mate on PGAC about changing the rear hatch on a 106XN to the later style I believe? He's got an avatar of his green 106 on huge TSW Imola wheels.

Was an early day once, jeez, ever since I became a student I've had to endure 7am starts! Think I'll go back to being a Tesco employee like I was last year.

My body's totally rebelling to early mornings too, automatically waking up, switching the alarm off and going back to sleep without my brain doing any work. Bizarre...

Amusing how forum members come full circle really, I'm a member on PGAC but I never worked out how to use the forum properly then gave up on all bar a couple of forums because of how long it took me to check them all. I'm a closet Pug fan me, lots of respect for it as a brand and I'm often the one defending it if the VW boys decide they're gonna have a bitching session. My folks own a 206 Quiksilver on CC rims with all the bodykit and mesh grille, looks lovely!

Cool

As a student, I had an 1100 Mk1 Escort. I read an article in "Cars and car conversions" titled "Make your Escort handle like a rally car for less than £50", (well, it WAS 1974), so I had a go. It worked a treat, and I had a car that 3 litre Capri's couldnt keep up with on twisty roads, kept it for ages, loved it, built up a good ncd, then sold it for a Mexico.
Whatever car you drive, OR CAN AFFORD, if it gives you pleasure, it's no-one else's business but yours.
IMHO.

I think too many people on here are judging Pathfinder without knowing any of the facts.
Dave T S, how do you know he was going too fast? I have driven that road many times and it's a lot quicker and flowing than it looks in the pictures. How do you know he did something wrong, or that it was poor driving, or driving 'past his ability'? You don't do you?
So how can you judge (or even make an asumption) without knowing if there was another factor involved?
I don't recall Pathfinder saying he was driving like a t*t or showing off. He may have been carrying too much speed into the corner. Or he may not! YOU don't know.
It's fair enough giving an opinion, but blaming or calling someone when you don't know them is a bit sad.
You also comment on your own driving, saying it's within yours and the cars limits. A little arrogant I think.
Just my opinion.

Hope you feel better soon Pathfinder, and it's a shame about the car.

I feel for pathfinder, losing a car is a scary experience and writting one off plays on your mind for a long time.

Just to keep it light hearted, any idea why in the interior picture the handbrake is on?!

ok, i must say thanks to vwpolo, and krupa (i know who you are) nice one. i would also like to say i find it very funny reading how people, no names (dave) react to criticism. VERY BADLY. you can give it out but you cant take it can you! i didnt come on here to slate Scoobys, so why the comments on our Veedubs? i read someone saying something about school holidays, i agree, dave must be off school this week! his attitude towards others is extreemly immature. I also agree with VWPOLO when he said would a school kid drive a car like that?? well no, they wouldnt, his car is very clean. its personal choice and some people on this forum obviously have their head's so far up their own ****'s, they cant see this through the ****. oh, and i dont care if Dave is respected on this forum, he doesnt deserve this 'status' thats for sure. I dont know him, this however, is a good thing. i'm not being personal, coz i dont know anyof you, but i think some of you need to get down off your high horses! or high chair, as far as Dave is concerened!lol. so you can all have a good laugh, here is a pic of my car. P.s. it has a clifford full closure alarm, so, no, it wont disarm if you fart next to it!
Chill people.
Ding, Ding, ROUND TWO!

is it me or have the vw polo shirt gang just popped in
The thing that we dont like (and i definately dont like) is when some newbie comes in and gives someone esle grief, yes Dave put his point forward and undoubtedly one day if you ever own a performance car you may well see why he put his views harshly forward.
If you also understand that looking at the pictures they show that the road has surface dampness on it, alot of people are going to try to drive their Scoobs at silly speeds round bends etc but what we must put across to others on here is that the conditions for this time of year mean that you have to reduce your compulsion to get the best from your car and be that little bit more careful.
Our cars also handle very differenly to your vw's, pugs etc, i myself have been involved in an accident where i rolled a vehicle and i can say that its not very nice but if you dont look and understand the road and be afraid of it a little, you see whats happened maybe a little overconfidence due to Pathy's knowledge of the road? i know that was my downfall something i wont be doing again i hasten to add and we all feel for Pathy and the fact that he walked (or hobbled away ) but it could have been worse, much worse and as Dave pointed out (and by the skid marks on the road) it could have involved someone else if there would have been any cars coming the other way
As for VW's, you should try working for them sometime you polo owners, it will open your eyes to errrrrm how good vw really is and you wouldnt want to buy another one after that

VWPolo, just a quick one for you but if you quote me then make sure you add the smiley faces as it can be percieved in a different context otherwise ok?

ok Tony, i see your point. i can see everyones point to be honest, and i respect that everyone has different views on things. I have my own, thats for sure and its caused some rude (but MAINLY deserved abuse!not the VW thing though!). Thats that. i actually do all my own work to my car, and like wise for my mk2 golf. the golf was better built, coz some spanish geek built the polo, but still, its done 25k miles in 12months and i havent had one problem with it-oh one actually, the wheels scrub! lol! but again, it this niggling at other brands of car that is totally uncalled for. i didnt say ANYTHING about scoobys, and i would have thought that older peolpe than myself would have the decency to treat other quality makes of car the same. ( i assume you are all older, owning a scooby isnt something EVERYONE can do at 19, which is why i dont drive a performance car!)anyway, i wasnt doubting that the conditions should have been noticed, i noticed it looks wet and slippy, so im sure the man in question did too! I do however agree that over convidence CAN be a persons downfall (driving or some other non related activity).

(p.s, im not giving in, just think its time we ALL agree to disagree) Back to the tread eh!
