Do the police/powers that be just look at the up and coming trends, i.e car modifying, and make up a law to suit, to land them self with more money....

Looks like im screwed (blitz nur spec)

I'd refit the original exhaust with a great fecking hole in it, then let him listen to it and choose for me.

have a jap import, which says on the log bog "2 axle rigid body saloon" Therefore had to pass SVA upon import to UK.

SVA noise limit is 101db. And car has obviously passed this to gain log book for UK.

Therefore as the car is not recognised as a Subaru Impreza, but is recognised as 2axle etc.. the car does not have a standard exhaust system as technicaly the car is a "kit car" single vehicle. That is why it had to take a SVA test.

So my Magnex or your chosen system "is" the system that the car was imported with and has passed the SVA test(legal requirement) So Mr.policeman would be treading a very fine line in trying to prosicute if you have an import.

This is becoming more commen by the looks of it.

I was at stockley when the police stopped everyone, and was given a noise abatement notice for the loud exhaust. I have a blitz system with a h&s downpipe.

The copper basically said its a non standard exhaust, so therefore louder than the manufacturers standard. This was basically a way of making sure that we didnt go back to stockley as the order meant that i was not allowed to be within 1 mile of stockley roundabout between 8pm and 6am, and at all other times i must drive in a manner so as not to cause excessive noice.

my other option was to revert the exhaust to standard. If i didnt do either of these then the notice said it would be a criminal offence and i could be fined up to £5k.

Interesting about the SVA, as the car came into the country with the blitz fitted so obviously that is what it went through the test with, had been thinking about contesting the notice, so may do this now.

Tell them to thuck off... Unless he has a DB reader to measure the noise..they are not the Law. so why should they decide.

Thumbs down

This is utter rubbish. The officer has to be a qualified vehicle inspector to even have a power to inspect your car.If you get asked to open your bonnet by a bobby on the beat then ask if he/she is a qualified vehicle inspector. If not keep it closed.FACT.
If he/she asks you if you "wouldn't mind " them having a look tell them a polite "YES I WOULD MIND".If they are a vehicle inspector they have a power to have a look and if you stop them you are obstructing a constable in the lawful execution of his duty, also they can detain you at the scene until a qualified inspector arrives.I know because i do it every day.Hope that set the record straight.

You don't have to accept the ticket or that the officer is correct. You have the choice to take it to court. Test the police officers evidence.
If you swallow the ticket just on the spot then you are putting your hands up.
You will find courts a bit different now.
One officer giving evidence only does not hold the same weight as it did in court.
Seems few people do this anymore.

Don`t want to **** on your strawberrys dude. Buy I wouldn`t want to test your advice all over the country. I can assure you that every police officer has the power to examine your vehicle. Depending on what offence is discovered and what evidence is required it may indeed require the experts like youself to attend. But there are many number of reasons why a police may require you to open a bonnet. He should explain this before hand of course.

Question

Sorry, if i sound thick but am I missing something??

If the exhaust you put on (I've got just an SS backbox) is within legal limits and your insurance company is aware of the modification then surely your car is road-legal? End of story!

Please tell me what I'm missing?

DP.

Hey you'd get less for a crime against a police officer than you would having a loud exhaust....

Take your chances roll the dice!!!

PS. Intolerable behaviour of any sorts is not permitted as my soilictor has advised me.

w*nkers

Why don't we all vote no confidence in our top police dudes, that would **** em up wouldn't it?

Police Scoobs, well, the ones from Skipton at least, all have ppp's including non standard zorsts and not that I'm a grass they all run 100w headlamp bulbs too, highly illegal if I'm not mistaken and surely punishable by death (unless they spot mine that is)

It really is a sad state of affairs that so many people hate the police, even my dad doesn't like them! The real shame is that they should be our friends, here to protect us but instead they just take the p*ss out of us, us that pay their wages

Well, I think you should have your exhausts checked - the loud ones keep me awake when matron turns our lights out at 7pm!!

Lets haul these idiots over the coals - why, why, why, have a loud exhaust?? All it says is LOOK AT ME!! I am a complete Dick!!

Cool

Pete, I agree with you partly - why indeed have a loud exhaust as my father said "it causes hostility around these parts", but it is an extension thing along with gold wheels....

Sounds abit pants to me, before much longer they will introduce the German TÜV System into the UK then you won't be able to run even a non standard Subaru Lightbulb

Dave is so rich even his BBQ's are customised and hand built by dedicated and comitted Subaru enthusiasts. The Wheels on one of his BBQ's took over two hours to fully customise and fit with Brembo brakes.

Angry

I was pulled over earlier this year on the grounds that my number plate was the wrong size (true - I'd had a muppet back into the car and break the road plate so I was running my tiny track plate rather than run without one at all) at the same time they noticed the HKS Hiper...

They gave me a producer and asked me to go to an MOT station to get them to stamp the form stating that the exhaust was fine and the the plate had been fixed...no worries, done and dusted

But although I can't remember the correct section under the Road Trafic Construction and Use rule book (which I was shown at the time) it is an offence to knowingly replace an exhaust system with one that increases the noise produced over that of standard...and it has been so since probably the 1930's when most of our traffic laws were created

Sorry chaps, but all our aftermarket exhausts unless meeting type approval for our car (if it's a UK or Euro spec car that is) as developed by the manufacturer are technically illegal If you have a Jap import type approval doesn't come into it and the SVA reg do...so fit a loud exhaust on an import an yuo should be fine

NB legal disclaimer Tim W's comments should not be taken as legal fact just total jibberish!

Anyone reckon I can get a way with whe import theory?? as I am currently facing a fine at the mo??

I was told that the officers opinion thats "its too loud" would still be enforced even tho my car is an import.

Thats flipping stupid!! What about performance bikes, they make far more noise as standard than the loudest modded exaust I've heard.

Theres a lot of things I really hate about this country

Alexg the same rulling applies to bikes and it's really rigerously enforced there

Andy, if your car is a Jap import and not listed as an Impreza on your V5, but something like Subaru GC8 saloon or something (help - someone here must know what thhey call jap imports!) I would suggest taking your car to an SVA station and getting them to check it over again...maybe you will get the evidence you need to have the fine overturned...maybe...
