That is petty of your neighbour..
I have to disagree. If you live next to someone who gets up earlier than you do who wakes you day in, day out, you wouldn't find it petty.

IMHO, I think there will be a massive change in the policing of this soon. Bikes currently have to have the "e" mark on every exhaust fitted. So, legally, do cars. But 99% of them arent - the only exception I know of is the prodrive kit...

If the police are clamping down on this, we should know about it and do something about it. Group buy on "e" stamping kits anyone (joke)

Sounds like FN had a relatively good experience on the whole, cheers for the warning mate!

nick.

Neighbour where I am currently staying in the week has an American van which is flipping loud and he leaves at 7am every day..

I usually get up at 8.. but have just started getting up at 7 instead..

Perhaps I am too easy going then.. if it was 4am then I might feel different..

I'd get annoyed if someone started something and revved it.. but if they just start it and drive off slowly I cannot see the problem. Perhaps a full decat system is louder than I realise.

I would hate to live next door to the guy here that rides an Aprilia 125 as he revs it for about 1minute.. tickover to 8,000rpm roughly up and down for the whole minute watching the temperature.. I think he really believes he is protecting his engine by warming it up.. it is loud and manotinous and that is on standard exhaust.

[climbs into asbestos flame suit]

Well done the Police I say.

I 'personally' think that some exhausts are taking the p1ss noise wise, the manufacturers have to fit a quiet exhaust to pass noise regs at time of manufacture, but anybody can rip it off and fit a straight through 3" pipe the next day - it's daft. I hate loud exhausts on *any* car - I think are totally pointless and just annoy the locals......why do it?

Sorry guy's just another opinion

And tints CAN be dangerous in lowlight - thats why there is a law about the degree of tint!

wow, an open minded response

that's not cricket is it, you're supposed to complain bitterly with no real thought given to the facts, deriving your 'argument' from little else than self pity and circumstancial observations.

thank god there are a few people who can see the wood for trees sometimes

I have committed a sin, yes...

Though previous cars have been louder than this at 115db & road legal & my bike well that's just an awesome sound......so looks like I'll be revving to get it warmed up a little more than usual....and I'll be buying a dog that barks a lot and playing my stereo somewhat louder than usual.

Some of the comments aimed at the Police are unfair as mentioned "they are only following a lead" and it must be difficult to get police to join as some of them in the police station were clearly labelled Essex Police Support Team.....

And I did have a good laugh with the Officer on duty as youngsters graffitied, skated & boarded outside the station....Though as the officer said this complaint had been looked into & cleared up as a crime statistic within 5 days.

And that is what it boils down to, motorists are an easy target though statistically are the easiest crimes to solve.....

AFAIK don't TVR dealers fit the exhausts to the car when they receive them from the factory to get around the noise regulations? They are sent from the factory with a restrictive, quiet "standard" exhaust that never actually see's the road.

If a new law was passed would this mean that the majority of aftermarket exhausts, some costing several hundred pounds, would basically be scrap metal?

My tupp'orth.

I didn't put an aftermarket exhaust on my Scooby for the Loudness, per se, but to change the character of the note to that lovely Flat Four boxer burble, which the standard exhaust completely strangles.

I also was not informed by Halfords ( yes I know, but delivery was free and they're only 2 minutes away from me) that the exhaust I was purchasing was "Not for road use". Perhaps if I'm ever forced to return the car to standard I can take it back to them and demand a refund?

I'm having great difficulty finding any vehicle noise regulations that refer to an actual dB limit. But there is this:

Office of the Deputy Prime Minister

(check under "Motor Vehicles - Sect 11"

Oh, and this:

hmmm, glad the police are using time well. And last night when we called em out cos two lads were smacking a car outside the house, the police came, we told them exactly where they lived, and the police said " they havent done any real damage, we'll let them go".

Hmmm, great.

I am certain that if a political party were to divert police attention towards violence, theft and fraud policing, they would walk in.

Its not that FN was nicked, or that DG was told to go and stake him out, or even that this took half an hour to process plus the period that they had lain in wait, its that they waited for him to leave in the morning on 3 previous occasions, before they got him. If he had been on a 3 week holiday, how many Police hours would have been devoted to this triumph of law enforcement?

Would it not better if someone in admin had written, saying we've received a complaint, get your exhaust sorted or we'll be round to nick you?

As Lee said, if FN had been sitting at home, shopping on-line with a stolen credit card buying TVs and HiFis, would they have even bothered going round?

Are there any motorists in this country that don't feel enough is enough?

ps I know plenty of coppers and most share my concerns.

Agree with all of Pete's points. The combination of this thread and PSL's Estelle Morris thread's a winner.

Vote ScoobyNet anyone? How about a letter expressing the collective frustration with policing policy that everyone on the bbs buying into this sends to their local MP and chief constable?

I can see this coming too, every evening driving home from work, before turning into the street I live, I set off the alarm of an Opel (Vauxhall) Sintra parked there.

It already happened about 10 times now, so I wouldn't wonder if the guy calls the police someday compaining that I set off his alarm.....?

Wink

Decat from SS, however, if I get police protection I might venture elsewhere....

Unless other companies can offer the same service as some certain police persons selling these systems....
