craig,

What's your real issue here?

If you want trackdays, there are plenty of companies out there doing it.

What's so special about the 'old' SIDC track days that you can't get anywhere else?

If the SIDC want to run Impreza only trackdays, that's fine, the WSCC, bookatrack, easytrack et al wil cater for your needs.

regards,

greg

Greg,

I know a lot of people from the "old" SIDC days - and I find that more enjoyable. Not all Impreza owners either (bet you're surprised eh )- is good to be able to go and do a trackday and have a laff with friends at the same time - wouldn't you agree? You don't get that at Easytrack etc - choice of cars yeah I don't dispute that.

Maybe myself and others that want SIDC trackdays but not with certain rules all expect too much?

Well you do if you all book the same day,

or you start to meet new people. I went to 2 WSCC trackdays last year, Elvington and Cadwell (joint day with the TVR club) and met loads of new people

Personally, I think that in the main the committee do a good job, and should be commended.

Bedford is really a bit of a red herring, as I understand the Oulton day was booked a considerable time ago, and was 'overlooked'.

It seems to me, and others that I have spoken to, that most of the current argument stems from an issue that raised it's ugly head over a year ago, and has still to be sorted.

We need to ask one simple question.

Do you have to own an Impreza to join the SIDC?
If the answer is yes, then every SIDC event is Scoob only, and will almost certainly result in no more trackdays.

If the answer is no, then you can't start peeing about with 'if the moon's in capricon, and there's an easterly wind' type of wooly conditions, any member must be able to attend, subject to the 'road legal' proviso.

With regard to making up numbers, many organisations give members a couple of weeks prior notice before opening up an event to others, so why should the SIDC be any different. Obviously, this would have to be based on membership, regardless of vehicle, and if the tracks are booked far enough in advance there shouldn't be a problem.

Maybe, as a relative outsider to the trackday scene, I'm oversimplifying matters, but it does seem to centre around this one key issue.

Considering you go to all the trackdays, I wouldn't call you a relative outsider

I think you have the problem in a nutshell:
1) Do you have to own an Impreza to join SIDC?
2) If not, and Imprezas are to be prioritized, do non-Impreza owning members get a membership discount ('associate member' or something)
3) What happens to people who own an Impreza and another car, but choose to track the latter? I hope to be in this position myself soon as IMHO scoobs aren't well suited to sideways track action (RWD preferred), and are too expensive to run on a track regularly. So although I'm not attending the Bedford day, I have an interest in the way SIDC trackdays are run in the future, particularly as Bedford is one of the few tracks near me and the RMA days there are a lot more expensive

Edit: posted my q's on the SIDC forum thread

Carl,

What I meant by calling myself an outsider, was that I don't actually drive at these days. Consequently, I am somewhat of a spectator when it comes to the ins and outs of trackdays. In particular, those outside the SIDC.

I'm afraid that much of my argument is summed up by the slightly complex series of questions you pose in point 2. If you're not required to have an impreza to join the SIDC, then the club simply cannot diferentiate between members based on their vehicle. These members could rightly argue that they have paid the same money, and should have the same rights and privileges as Impreza owning members.

In the absence of any sort of affiliate or associate membership, there really can't be any half measures.
