Kev,
The "performance" gains are variable between cars, and obviously has more effect on cars that have issues with their earths. Many of the "bugs" that appear on Subies seem to have to do with the earthing on our cars (stutters, misfires etc). By doing the earthing you prevent those (the ones that you can't trace coz nothing is obviously wrong) while improving the performance of your ICE![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)
Cars that have dodgy earthing (and most Scoobs over 2 or 3 years old show resistance/voltage somewhere) will obviously see the biggest benefit. Even owners of newer cars have noted fewer static shocks (or at least less severity). But it ain't gonna give you 30hp for a fiver
Well, actually, I hope it does, but doubt it. Good luck

AJbasebloke,
My car runs pretty well IMO, and I'm not expecting it to suddenly nail TVR Cerberas (does that already
). But it would be nice to see some improvement in economy and anything else is a plus.
I have on the odd occasion recevied static shocks, though these are few and far between. I guess this indicates that there will be some gain however minimal. While this won't actually add BHP it may unlock (so to speak) it on some cars.
Cheers,
Kev

Cheers Kev, just trying to keep expectations under control ![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)
FWIW I did get better fuel economy after earthing - not a huge difference, but about 1 to 2% on longer runs. It really cleaned up the way my car behaved though (and it was only 5 mths old when I did it
). Better starting, less shocks (more importantly less severe ones - I used to get the old 1/2 inch crackers - those would really get your heart going in the morning
), slightly better response (more accurately it cleared up a stutter and huge over boost I was getting), much cleaner coming off revs too.
Hope the earthing does magical things for you

ajbasebloke,
did you buy the wires in a kit or make your own set of wires up?
also, how many wires did you fit to the engine ?????

Hi Roy - first stage was only 3 points - all on the engine. That was OK, but wanted more (getting the audio to sound better was a priority
), so the next step was points off both strut towers (for 5). Then I added a wopping great drain pipe sized one from the body to the battery (6) ![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
At the mo I "think" that's how many I've done, but one of my mates was fiddling around the other day, so may be up to 7
Btw, we have noted that Subaru upped the earthing on every gen of car for the last few years, to the point that the new JDM Rex is looking good at last (but the body to battery drain is still tiny).
Cheers

cheers aj,,
i think i will fit a few more to the engine and bodywork next week to see if it makes anymore difference, but i have to be honest,i think if i wanted to i could get away with 3 earth points, and leave it at that.
but i have been studying the hks wiring on other poeples cars,,its got to make a difference as they would not have made the kit with 7 points on it.
i shall have to see how much time i have to play around with it as i am fitting a blitz nur spec back box as well(i hope it sounds good)!!!
many thanks aj,,

lol i was bored today down my mates workshop so i decided to perform this modification myself, but be totally silly and do everything ott to see how much difference it physically could make.
I changed the two standard earth wires off the battery for 0 guage (which for people who dont know is about an inch thick) premium gold earth cable with gold 0 guage connectors etc. Have to say it made a **** lot of a difference for such a little thing.
hehe though my m8 pointed out id used 45 quid of cable and connectors lol which perhaps makes it expensive 4 peeps without generous audioshops near them.
Ill post some pics as soon as i get a chance to take them

I bought standard battery leads from my local motor store as I am very lazy !
After doing so I must say the car drives smoother in cold and low down the rev range worth the £8 I spent !

I cleaned up all the existing earth connections today and then added new connections with very heavy earthing cable from B&Q - 7strand stiff as a mother £1.92 a metre stuff.
Added one to the manifold, one the the block and one to the earthing point on the passenger side strut tower.
Car starts immediately it cranks, no turning over needed and from cold pulls away much more evenly and flat out runs much more smoothly - mmmmmmmmmmmmm

I have run two tanks a fuel since (I am sure someone asked about fuel consumption) first did 283miles to 48litres which was pretty damn good with mainly cruising on the motorway but some town work and this mornings tank 308miles so far and I would estimate about 52litres.. which is all motorway but it has seen the red line at least 12 times.. but fairly relaxed cruising mainly..
So I think it is an improvement... most definitly not the opposite..
BTW - I have left the orignal earthing as it was and just added my own..

Harvey,
yeah thanks for the suggestion - ran out of time - and just wanted to see if a basic correction made the difference - which it did.
Alternator and ECU earth coming to a car near me soon![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

Done mine yesterday, 2 points on engine and 2 on chassis.
Gonna do 2 more when I can get some more connectors!
Prob done it the expensive way though, went to Halfords thinking they'd have it on the reel but ended up buying two 3 metre packs for amp's (£7.99 each). I couldn't wait could I

No bad running problems this morning which i've had from cold, seems like it was worth while

OK
I did this mod a couple of months ago and posted the results on the earthing topic in lighting and electrical. Just thought I'd re-post the pics just in case they're any help to anyone.
