But surely if the Link is just a plug and play ECU you could just replace it with the original ECU if the engine goes pop???? or am I totally confused!!
#34
Jake, the link ecu is NOT a plug and pray module. It is configured to your car. Unlike the PPP, generic STi ecu. If people are looking at this upgrade, maybe it would be worth checking the breaking yards.

danny, the link is a plug and play in the sence that jake means it. You can put it in and tinker yourself. I wouldnt. Leave it to the experts. When propeerly mapped it is an effective weapon.
When you say engine popping and replacing standard ecu, are you talking about for the sake of insurance purposes? If os, yes why not? although that would be fraud and I cant condone that. If your engine blows as a result of poor mapping, then putting the jecs back in after it has gone bye bye is not going to fix it.

As Moe has pointed out, I have carried out a 'few' modifications on my car!!!
Anyway, they are as follows:
1) Exhaust & filter (Scoobysport Downpipe/Scoobysport Backbox/Magnex centre & RamPod Induction kit)
2) As no.1 with MRT cold air feed pipe and MRT scoop for the air inductor - No major difference!
3) As no.2 with PPP ECU, Prodrive intercooler pipework, Forge recirculating dump valve and HKS Iridum plugs
4) As no.3 with HKS EVC boost controller - running 17.5psi/1.2bar
5) As no.4 but with STANDARD ECU and the PPP ECU removed - No performance loss!
6) As no.5 with Power Enterprise PE1818 turbo, replacing the standard TD04 turbo
7) APS FMIC/APS air inductor/same exhaust/same dump valve/PE turbo - Ran like poo, but a means to an end.....
8) As no.7 with Link ECU!!!
9) To be done - 550cc injectors & headers flowed, and maybe (?) water injection!
All have been an improvement! (except for no.7)
Any queries feel free to ask!
Cheers
Andy

Does this mean, that if for example you wanted more torque lower down the rev range, it can be done i.e. 3-4000 rpm, as opposed to 4-5000rpm? Or am I getting confused now!

Scott, the link makes the most of all the rpm range. I'm sure that BR Developments could set up your car to use this rev range better. What might also drop the power to a lower rev range is to fit a hybrid turbo.

Catch up with you later.

Some "re-chips" are in fact a daiughter board that is hard wired into a standard JECS Ecu.
I have a friend that had a 22B that blew up at a magazine event, fortunately 10 nanoseconds before it blew up, the famous owner of the rechipping shop turned up with a bottle of wine on an early Sunday morning to remove the hard wired daughter board.
Aforesaid friend was able to have a completely free rebuild as the ecu was standard

welcome to the club top cat it is good isn't it
are you trying to say you are actually running 1.5 bar on standard internals on a MY97 ? is that according to the boost gauge or to the tuning module

Hi Sam,
Thanks for the welcome! The car is mapped at 1.3 bar by the tunning module. I did get some over boost issues due to a problem with one of my pipes but sorted out now.
Internals are std!
See you around m8

<B>Hi Jacko,
Yep I think a meet will be a great idea...what should be call it The Link Meet???
Na no pipes laying around, not yet anyway.
I have been hitting just under 1.6 bar and everything is reading as 1.2 bar i.e. fuel, oil temps etc. I am hearing 1 or 2 things about the accuracy of the Defi gauges...I know mine are right as I have compared them to PE gauge, and Auto meter. Ok lets even say they are out by .1 of a bar I am still peaking over 1.5bar!!!
The car goes like stink!
Looking forward to the retune to see if we can better things and make sure my clutch is at the right adjustment and new.
Moe[/quote]
The reason to the above was a problem I had with one of my pipes, now sorted and peaking at 1.4 and holding 1.3 off the clock
