Talking about driving skills, you should try Scotland. They have some of the best twisty turny smooth drivers roads on earth. Plus I have never seen as many Scoobys in my life as I saw there.

Had a standard Corrado VR6 (with 50k miles) before my standard MY99 Wagon - Corrado was nearly as fast as the Scoob but from 80-120 it was noticeably better. Got indicated 150 from both of them top whack - so the Scoob's extra power overcomes the poor aerodynamics in the end, but the Corrado does feel smoother through the air at three figure speeds.
Oh, and bear in mind that a Corrado VR6 may be quoted as 190bhp but they gain power as they get more miles on - and Autocar tested a new one at 5.7secs 30-70mph so they're definitely similar ballpark to a UK Scoob.

On my way to Santa pod in the 3-door and my mate in his 4x4 Cossie Saff. We had just come off the mway and were on a dual carrigeway when this German plated Porsche GT3 came past on the outside
Well it was a matter of national pride that we went after him wasnt it?
I lifted at 130, my mate at 145.
We kept up, but we knew that above those sorts of speeds, the porsche would walk it.
and we had made our point
astraboy.

VR6 v Standard uk scoob... very close call,
VR6 v PPP'd scoob, BYEEEEEEEEEEEE
In theory and on paper the scoob is the quicker car, in practice you need quite a bit of power in hand to out pace a Corrado but.... you are better on the corners, can and should be better through the gears but also remember that Corrardos have got alot more miles on the clock than newer scoobs, a 1.8vtec civic tried it on with me when the car only had a few k on the clock and i found it very difficult to outpace him, now the last one that tried was seeing dust from 70 and you can forget golf vr6's as they are pig slow compared to a vr6 Corrado.

was cruising on a motorway a while ago when a brand new aston db7 (vanquish) goes past on outside lane followed by a 306 doing about 90. dont bother racing cos im coming off soon. turn onto dual carriage way near york when i find us lined up at some lights i think hmmmmmm. ill have a go so i do and hes behind me (aewsome sight) everyone seems to be watching as our speeds increase (its about 3pm on a sunday) 100mph ......135mph .....150mph hes still there i ove over and off he goes i open window and listen to that noice. must have looked quite good. i pull in at next service station and let her cool down i might not have won but then his car was about 7 times more expensive problay a footballer or something.

Sorry to put the dampers on this one but here is a story from the dark side. I had Fiat 128 3P (not the box shape thing) and my mate had an RS2000. My clutch was slipping badly and one foggy evenning we left the pub less alcohol and set off on a 9 mile race home on some seriously twisty roads. I was struggling to keep up and was taking bends at loony tunes speeds to compensate for the clutch. About two miles from home disater struck. I lost track of where i was in the fog and entered a corner at 85mph 4th gear. Bad mistake as this was 2nd gear 25mph corner. I hit the verge on the wrong side of the road and the car immediatly went into a massive unrecoverable oversteer. I went back accross the road heading straight for a substantial tree. I remember shouting to my sister(passenger) get your head down(WHY?). I have to assume what happened next as some bits are blank. What i assume is that the car front dug into a drainage ditch and was flicked end to end spinning through the air and impacted passenger door on to the tree (27ft from the ground This was measured by the local garage) The next thing I know for sure is the car landed on its roof sliding along with large lumps of broken concrete from an old WW2 runway smashing through the windsreen. Blank. I recovered consciousness first, lying on the roof of the car with a dark looking headlining which was white. My sister was still suspended upside down with blood and glass everywhere but mostly in her face. As she regained consciousness i managed to pull her from the car which stank of petrol and miracously both of us could stand. We walked the two miles home with me holding her arms preventing her from touching her face so as she would not aware of her injuries. Under the lights at home what appeared as savage cuts in the dark was just a mass of glass fragments in the surface of her skin. She was left completely unscarred but i am sure one rub of a hand would have sent things the other way. Seeing the car the following day was shocking to say the least. The passenger door was nearly in the centre of the car with the base upturned at nearly 90 degrees. I was not wearing a saftey belt. How either of us escaped with our lives is a mystery. Have i slowed down? Problaby not, but man i think about what i am doing now and never take a chance at someone elses expense and racing on the road NEVER!!. This happened 20 yrs ago and the vision of a tree coming at me at 85mph has never faded. Keep it safe

On my Stag night after closing time my best man, and two groomsmen put a couple of cases of Bud in the boot and we headed for a private sand quarry which was the size of four or five football pitches with really smooth surface. Starry skies, month of June, middle of nowhere and we had hand brake turn, reverse turn, sideways powerslide competitions everything you could imagine. Oh it was a Capri 2.8i. The dust was so bad we had to keep the boot door open to do the reversing manoevres! After a few hours of this we went home - no beer left, not a scratch on the car but it was filthy inside and out. Then used it to go on a driving honeymoon!!!!! When men were men and sheep were nervous.

Ok, two weeks ago, just driving out of Winchester towards the A31 from the 'park-and-ride' exit.
It's a dual carriageway with a left-hander to slow people down. At the end you either go left for the M3 or straight on to go up towards the A31.
A Cavalier with two blokes in it and the full M** P**** regalia pulled out of the Total garage and tried to nip in front of me, he would have made it (I can't be bothered with this type of driver) except that he stalled in the middle of the road
He's now p155ed off and drives right up my *** until the roundabout. He now proceeds to drive alongside me giving the evil eye (bearing in mind that HE stalled, I wasn't even involved).
At the roundabout we're both going straight on but have to wait for a 'right-turner'. He floored it off the roundabout from the inside. I just pulled away normally not wanting this type of race.
Unfortunately for him the road was wet, I have never seen anything as funny. As he left the roundabout the rear wheels went out. He overcorrected and went the other way. Two more attempts then suddenely he's facing me on the inside carriageway.
I gave a nice wave and drove off smiling happily to myself

I went out for a spin last weekend.
Coming out of Northampton onto the A45 toward Weedon some dude and his mate in a Cerberra came steaming off the roundabout and shot off into the distance. Knowing the speed camera situation in Northants, I chose not to rise to the occasion.
Down into Weedon, left at the lights and through Fosters Booth, who should I see, stuck behind a truck but my old pal the cerberra.
A bit later down the road, I was able to catch up with him without going silly.
We were both in line, with me keeping a good distance, doing about 60 behind another car when a real good overtaking opportunity came up. We both dropped a cog and went for it.
Can you imagine the fella's suprise when I caught right up with him. I had to hit the brakes to avoid hitting him up the ***!
I have to admit to being just as suprised. I thought they were quick!
They had a kinda sheepish look at the roundabout at the end of the road.

Two ones that stick in memory
First one coming out of Bracknell in my old 306 GTi-6 on the A322 towards Guildford. Passed a Black RS Turbo in the inside lane up to the Coral Reef roundabout, he didn't like it very much (no idea why as he was doing 60 in the inside lane in a 70) and pulled out right behind me, sitting on my bumper. At the roundabout I'm in the outside lane to go straight on and he's behind me, lorry in inside lane so he can't go there. I drive very sedately round the roundabout, onto the straight and he's 1" off my boot. In 2nd I floor it, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th. Going pretty quick and ease off now back to around 70ish, and he's a spec in my mirror. Comes blasting up and drives alongside me now trying to intimidate me, looked at him, laughed, then sped off round the ascot turning up to the M3 and he was bye bye, just couldn't handle or go by the looks. My and the missus had a good chuckle at that one!!!
Second was a couple of months after buying the scoob, had just put a Magnex BB on before a trip to Cornwall. Coming back along the dual carriageway just before StoneHenge it was dead. A couple of cars up ahead on a long straight and a car sitting in the outside lane at about 75. I come up on him and he pulls over, its a Corrado VR6. I pass him and he pulls out right on my ****, he's like this for a while so I drop a cog and foot down - start gradually pulling away when one of the only two other cars in front on the road pulls out into the outside lane at about 50. I braked hard and managed to stop about a metre or so from his rear end - look in the mirror to see the corrado fishtailing, all over the road, and struggling to stop from hitting me He pulled in after that and I carried on my way. Certainly not proud of that one, however, from earlier posts thought I'd add it re my experiences with a VR6 - my car was pretty standard (dyno'd at 233bhp and 221 torque before BB, MY99) and he couldn't keep up - just.
Cheers
Neil.

Ask RonaldoH to tell you about the "Screaming Jaffa" (a modified Mini) beating 2 R1s and a P1 down a twisty Scottish mountain pass. On the same road another guy on this forum couldn't keep up with a Rover turbodiesel in his Sti.

After the first AGM of the ISDC the chairman , who was a local , decided to lead us on a drive of some 'good' roads he knew . We had to drive along an A road into a large town before turning off and he warned us to take it easy as there were several gatsos on the way . About 12 of us were sitting about 50 mph in a long q of traffic heading into the town when this Nova comes buzzing alongside passing us all . The driver must have been wetting himself passing all these scoobs . Next thing we saw was the double flash of the gatso . Boy did we laugh when we got back to the hotel .

His gear ratios are better. Remember you are driving a Rally car. If you wish to do "Dual Carridgeway" racing with Corrados...buy a Legacy Turbo...like what I did. :-) Imprezas are the best..I agree...but if you want something a lot more stealthy that you can park anywhere, and want to do lots of miles and race things like corrados....they rule.
Friend has a VR6......my gears a LONGER than his.....pulls away until the turbo comes whistling in and then I am braking to stop myself hitting him!
I have had an Impreza RA for a few weeks...it was a real racer....but I have to be honest, the legacy is a better daily driver.

In Denmark we run the Danish championship for Car clubs. It take place every year and 10 to 15 different Clubs participate.
Competition is on 3 laps on Ring Knutstorp (tarmac race track, lenght 2 km) and a fast manoeuvre track around some cones.
2001 Championship has just taken place and SUBARU participated for the first time.
To find the Champion the 3 best drivers from each Club is added, it will not help you to have one or two fast drivers, you need 3 and there is less than 20 Scooby's registrated in Denmark. Subaru club showed up with 7 cars and took the third place after Lotus and Honda. Next year we go for the top.
3. Subaru Klub Danmark
Tsukasa Osanai Subaru Impreza GT Turbo
Steen Jørgensen Subaru Impreza GT Turbo
Lars Kruse Henriksen Subaru Impreza GT Turbo
Great fun to beat up the Alfa, Porsche, Mini, Toyota, BMW, Peugeot etc clubs

Travelling up to Edinburgh on the A68 I had a Vectra right up my **** coming over Carter Bar(Border). I didn't really slow down(50mph)for the tight bends on the other side and he had to drop back, on the exit from the last bend I saw him speed up on the straight. The next sweeping left I speeded up a touch only for him to decide he wanted to be passed on the following straight. As we hit the straight I dabbed by brakes to let him know about the oncoming Gatso, too late he overtook me and flash flash
He was rather pissed off and decided to blame me and jump on his brakes, I had to swerve and pass him and he decided to drive even closer to me flashing his lights at me. After a number of miles my girlfriend woke up and said "what's that idiot doing behind" I said I don't know but he won't go away. She granted me the divine right to use my lead boot and lead the Salesman from hell, I put a good distance betwen us and when out of sight I pulled into a side road for a minute. He went past at a rapid rate trying to catch me, I continued at normal pace from then on.
Good thing to be said about Scooby Brakes, 90-0 mph and shart left didn't feel at all worried.

Was having a "spirited" drive against a bike (R1 I think)
Held him off up to 120 then (just when I was thinking I had him).....
whhhhhhoooooooossssshhhhhhh - past he went like I was in reverse !
I eased off - well beaten (& also cos I knew that 9 times our of 10 there is a mobile speed trap set up at the end of the carridgeway)
Sure enough 30 secs later Mr R1 was pulled up & getting a bollocking (& no doubt many points) by PC plod.
I did try & warn him but I think he mistook my flashing lights as a "nice one mate" !

From: Leeds - It was 562.4bhp@28psi on Optimax, How much closer to 600 with race fuel and a bigger turbo?
once raced a lotus esprit turbo... pissed on him.. just out cornering and breaking (well driving like a tit anyway)he wound his window down and said.. lets take it out of town (was about three in morning...) I said no way... as I was just messing not expecting to beat him... he said he couldnt get any grip (was wet) and that he could do 60 in first... We went out of town and he absolutley wasted me.. (I was in very modded 1.4 pug 106xsi... ) We pulled up at the next set of lights and he was more interested in my clarion vrx 8370... (tv)... I was chuffed when lotus driver wants to look at my car!!
Once tried racing a scoob in the pug.. thought I might get a little bit on it to start...(yeah right... who am I kidding.... guy driving looked quite old... had wife in car..) it was terzo something or other in blue..... I set off and went first to third... decided I had lost at about 5500rpm in first... I made a good start as well... just gave up and smiled!) When I went past him... he was waiting to turn right... he just grinned and flashed his lights...
Must have made his day..

The Porsche 944 Turbo post has reminded me of a funny incident in France. I was heading to Disney Paris when it first opened and cruising across from Le Mans way at exactly 100 mph, cruise control on, Meatloaf on the stereo and the road comletely deserted.
In my mirror I noticed a small white dot getting gradually larger. After about 10 minute a Peugeot 106 going about 101 mph ever so slowly crept pass me. The driver had one of those manic looks of making a crap car top 100 mph.
I simply stomped on the throttle (after he had pulled in) and it immediately went to about two bar (it was a very special 944 Turbo) and accelerated to an indicated 160 mph. The car was rock steady at speed and we got to Paris in no time.
However, I did get nicked for speeding on the return journey
French copper told me I had to pay 900 FF. I told him I had no money as I was on my way back to the ferry. He confiscated all my papers and told me to go to the local town to find a bank. The banks in the small town were all closed so I had to head back to Le Mans. At least I knew where the speed traps were so I could hammer it everywhere else.
When I finally got back with the cash he gave me my papers back and said "OH you won't want a receipt as they will delay you further and you may miss your ferry". "No, its OK, I've got time" I replied. This p!ssed him off as he was going to simply trouser the 900FF without a receipt.
Once he finally gave ne the receipt I explained to him that I had to go all the way back to Le Mans to get the money.
The look on his face was tremendous as he realised that the round trip was 80 miles and I'd managed it in under an hour including stopping in the local town!
Got my moneys worth.
Sid

When I finally got back with the cash he gave me my papers back and said "OH you won't want a receipt as they will delay you further and you may miss your ferry". "No, its OK, I've got time" I replied. This p!ssed him off as he was going to simply trouser the 900FF without a receipt.
Once he finally gave ne the receipt I explained to him that I had to go all the way back to Le Mans to get the money.
The look on his face was tremendous as he realised that the round trip was 80 miles and I'd managed it in under an hour including stopping in the local town!
Got my moneys worth.

Another great race was also in France but this time on motor bikes. I used to always have the absolute fastest bikes possible and my favourite was a Yamahe FZR100 Exup with blueprinted engine, various mods and nitrous oxide injection.
I was in a bit of a hurry to get to the Bol D'Or motorcycle race in the South of France. I had to stay in Jersey on the Frday afternoon as it was my sister's wedding but i had to be at Paul Ricard circuit by lunchtime on Saturday.
Friday evening I managed a few hundred miles leaving about 500 to go on Saturday morning.
At high speed most motorbikes are worse than EVOs for needing regular fuel stops.
I stopped somewhere just south of Lyon for a quick fuel stop and quickly rejoined the Autoroute Du Sud. I always zeroed my trip counter at each fuel stop and noticed that the time was now 9.20. As I pulled out into the traffic a French rider on a Fireblade went past at about 130 mph. I immediately caught up with him and passed him at about 150 mph. Well for the next 100 + miles we both rode at around 150 mph but never stupidly. I could tell he was a good rider (you don't live long at those speeds if your not!) and I haqve done several advanced riding courses including Police Class 1, Gold Instructor, Nurburgring Perfection training and circuit racing.
One particular downhill section the road cleared and we we both really going for it. Suddenly my bike cut out and I though that the engine had blown up. However as the evs reduced it cut back in again. I looked first at the rev counter and saw it was 500 revs into the red (in top gear) and then looked at the speedo and it was around 180 mph. The gearing had been raised from standard by having two fewer teeth on the rear sprocket to counter the tuned engine.
At a range of 130 miles we saw a sign for a petrol station so both pulled in. We stopped either side of the pump and the French man took off his helmet and came straight over to me, thrust out his hand, shook my hand warmly and said it was one of the best rides with another bike he'd ever had. As I reset my trip meter I noticed we had done 138 miles since the last stop. I then checked my watch and saw it was 10.15. So that was 138 miles covered in 55 minutes, phew!!
Finally got to the track at lunchtime and the race team complained that I was late!
