Wink

The bloke was talking bo11ocks from start to finish. Brake discs £300 EACH Tyres £250 per corner, turbos at 60k, do you get the feeling he went to the local Nissan dealer for the prices and I'm sure you can get greys for a lot less than 40k

Oh yeah, and lets get 'Japan's only supercar' (anybody mentioned this to Honda?) on the programme, and get a useless, talent free fat **** to drive it round an industrial estate at 25mph

And I liked the acceleration test...first gear pull away for half a milli second before brown stain then change gear quickly...

They missed a trick, too. Steve Coogan had an R34 from one of the car mags for a while - didn't like it, as I remember. Perhaps he could have had a re-match. As for him beating Ross Kemp, I seem to thing Steve's nearly a Jay Kay-league car nut, and has owned and bent mucho expensive metal, so perhaps he's learnt a little bit.

Suffice to say, we Skyline boys were not happy.
More so because of the source of cars and information.

Matt,
I still use standard turbos as does most of the Skyline brigade.

See the above link to the GTR Register for our thoughts.

remember tyres are £250 a corner too. But surely any performance car with 18" wheels will cost the same?? So it begs the question why mention it - all cars need new tyres at some point it's obvious a sports car with large wheels is going to need more expensive tyres more frequently a 1.1 Corsa.

Just don't see the point they were trying to make, all the points they made were either wrong or irrelevant.

agree matt, and if you were spending 40k on a car the fact that a set of rubber is gonna cost 1k would be a moot point.

I dont know much about skylines (apart from wanting one!) but I thought the strength was their turbos that are part/full ceramic and can handle lots of boost? aint that so?

I'd be considered mad for spending £1000.00 for tyres on my car!

Did you notice the "thank you" to Middlehurst Motorsport in the credits at the end? Might explain the high parts prices quoted?

On top of that, all of the driving footage was filmed around the industrial estates and roads around St.Helens ... just down the road from Middlehurst and just up the road from me!

Question

22B would stonk all over a 911 turbo, without much effort
420bhp as standard
Top speed 190
0-100 10.6 secs

22B must be quicker than I thought??

Just be glad that it wasn't good ol' Quentin Wilson doing the Skyline 2nd hand bit.

Can just imagine his summation as being - 'You could buy a Skyline for £40k but if it were my money then I'd being looking for a particular german car with the initials of a well known british motorway'. Just a thought..........

Oh, should of been more clear...article relates to fast but twisty country lanes not motorway or autobahn.

Of course the 911 should be faster in a straight line...but UK roads don't count much for that.

Quote, "911 owner jumped out of his car and threw keys to the ground".

Off on a tangeant a little. The Vanquish v 575 bit. Loved the 2 quotes.

JC: When I flash you it means i will be coming past
Damon: And you think thats going to happen do you!

&
JC: Well the 575 is a bit Schumacher isn't it
Damon: And we cant have that can we!

Must admit were HUGE fans of Damon in my house. And now hes stopped driving and seems more relaxed hes actually coming across really well on the various programmes hes done recently.

i was under the impression that there was going to be a new Skyline

The all-new R35 Skyline GT-R will use a Le Mans-proven V8 engine that produces around 400bhp. With a 3.5-litre variant of the unit that powered the Nissan R390 GT1, the R35 will rival Porsche's 911 and the forthcoming V8-powered Honda NSX, sprinting from 0-60mph in less than 4.5 seconds and hitting a top speed of 170mph.

An exclusive photo of the new R35 Skyline model has been released, shown above, which shows the new Skyline shape of which the GTR may emulate. This four door saloon version, which is currently available in Japan, sports a NisMo bodykit and a 300 bhp engine, yet doesn't really continue with the image of the current R34 series, and has been likened to a Rover 75 or Jaguar S Type. No one actually knows whether the GTR version will use a similar chassis or bodyshell, but the designers at Nissan will have to radically change the GTR from the new Skyline version, if they want the GTR to sell.

Yes that is the concept GT-R 35. I saw it at the Tokyo Motor show and it is awesome.

Nissan have not confirmed whether it will be built. When I was living in Tokyo I heard a news announcement saying that the R34 was going to be discontinued and all remaining unsold cars would be the last.

Two weeks later an announcement that there would be 1,000 more 34's produced. Guess how long it took to sell them?

20 minutes and most people paid in full

Before the announcement I could have picked up an R34 in immac condition for 4 million Yen (~£20k) but now second hand values have soared as they are collectible.

Top gear spouted so much crap about them on that prgram even down to the second hand value of a 34 being £40k.
