I've not been at it long, but at the minute I basically call people up and ask them if they want to pay less for their mortgage. If they agree I go and see them, remortgage then to a better deal and then sell them insurance for a small part of what I've saved them. Just went to see a client at 2.00. Transferred her mortgage to a different deal with the same lender. 80k mortgage with a saving of £160.00 per month. Got her cheaper house insurance and sold her life, critical illness cover and mortgage protection insurance for £70.00 a month. She will get a letter to sign tomorrow morning confirming the mortgage deal. Insurance has been done online, so is closed business and I'll get £1340.00 quid for an hours work. Hardest part is finding the clients. If you transfer them to a new lender the process isn't as simple, but still fairly lucrative. She is 90 quid a month better off, has half a million life and CIC for her and her husband and is planning to go out tomorrow to look for a new car.
I might not get another client this week or next, but i can live with that.
The course is called Certificate in Mortgage Advice and Practice. I got all the notes of a guy who had just completed it for 20 quid. (Sold them on for 50 when I was finished
) Exams cost £60.00 each (three exams). It isn't easy, but if you have a degree there is nothing there that you can't understand. It is more the amount of material you need to remember.
Do a search for CeMAP on the net . You can get an idea of the contents here.

Look in the phone book for your local financial advisor and have a chat.
In June I was an IT Services operations manager. Great job until they gave me the boot. (I think I was costing them too much). Now I'm self employed, so no-one can shaft me again.
