Okay, when I started this thread I didn't mention that I had written to Subaru UK because I wanted to see how many others had decided to do this.

Anyway, here is the reply (wish I could have scanned it in!!!!) that I received in response to my concerns on residual values etc., having bought an STI Type UK in September.

"Whilst we understand the reservations you may have concerning our current Impreza marketing campaign, you may rest assured that we carefully considered the consequences, both for existing owners & for the brand itself, before we launched the initiative.

It has not been common practice for us to initiate price=led campaigns. However, due to the fact that certain members of the media have been suggesting to potential customers that they should avoid purchasing the current model & wait for the new Impreza when it is launched early next year, we felt that we had to take action to maintain sales.

We anticipated that our initiative was likely to affect Impreza residual values in the short-term, but we are confident that the impact should be minimal over the medium- & long-terms. our confidence has been strengthened by discussions we have held with the main agencies which influence used car values. Even over the short-term the 'price to change' for those part-exchanging shouldnot be greatly affected. 'Cash purchasers', who purchased prior to the current campaing, & who intend to sell their current Impreza within a short period of time, are lekely to be the most affected by our initiative, but very few of our customers fall into this category.

The current retail offer only applies to customers who purchase a new Impreza during the campaign period i.e. between 5 October & 31 December 2002. If you happen to have purchased an Impreza before the commencement of the campaign you are likely to have benefited from a higher part-exchange allowance &/or discount offered by your dealer. We are confident that the value of your current Impreza should not be adversely affected over the medium- & long-terms."

Slightly different reply form the one "Bad" Bogie received which, at least shows Subaru UK are not just sending out a standard reply letter.

Cheers

Den (& that's enough typing for now!!!!!!!!!!)

If you want a new scoob, import one. If enough people do, then they will have to reduce the UK price to the euro levels. More winners that way, in the long term.

Fed up of these bug eye whingers. So what if the car is 3k reduced to sell on stock before a new model comes out, as in the reply from Subaru, its standard practice for any manufacturer.

And if somebody paid 24 grand for a uk300, more fool them. Its part and parcel for getting a new car, and one of the pitfalls is heavy first year depreciation. I bought a new P1 for £29,000, am i whinging that it is worth far less than i paid for it? no im not, i didnt buy the car for an "investment" and wont be selling the car through choice in the near future.

I think its quite correct that Subaru are binning the bug eye and listening to criticism. I have yet to meet one single person who likes the bug eye, apart from bug eye owners. IMHO the 03 looks a far sight better than the mess they are currently selling. And its obvious that they have to discount the outgoing model to sell them on, otherwise theyd be sitting on forecourts unsellable.

Get a life you whingers, and i doubt youll be missed by IM if you decide not to get any more cars from them, as there will be plenty of buyers for the improved new shape.

Thumbs up

Wanted to bring this back into view as I believe there are bound to be more replies from Subaru UK.

Come on guys - what did your letters from Subaru say?

I wrote to Sam Burton with a number of questions but got the same pre-prepared answer as seen above. Fairly predictable but irritating.
'Fraid this topic just seems to attract stupid/negative comments as seen above. What is it with some people?
There's a generally aggressive tone to a lot of threads these days directed towards other scooby owning members. Not come across it on any other BBS.
