When are you lot going to get a mans car ??

I've got to agree with this Jetski bloke. The Evo VI is a far superior car to a Scoob. I've just swapped my one this Saturday and the only quibble (so far) is the fuel tank. I've never driven a P1 or STi 6 so I couldn't compare them, but compared to my MY00 with all the mods I had on it and the Evo wins hands down!
The reason I changed to an Evo is because it was the only cars I've ever had beat me round corners on a track day. Many scoobs have left me on acceleration but none that I can remember have ever walked away round long corners like a couple of Evo's have.
Just my two pence worth, but personally I couldn't care what cars people drive, I drive what I feel suits me.

my girlfriend has a rheims(?spelling) blue evo 6 with full decat ehaust and induction kit.
its mega quick, quicker than the sti5 i had(which had same mods), handles better, and feels more 'solid'.
however, IMHO, it has zero personality, drinks fuel like its going out of fashion, and you have to keep filling the damn thing up a little too frequently.ive got used to the looks, but pretty it aint
i think she misses owning a scooby(she had my95 with superchip ), so u never know, she may come to her senses one day

Yes I did actually. There were about five at Goodwood last Monday and out of the four I came up against, none of them could match the pace.
There was another car that I couldn't stay with round Donnington back in March and that was a Lotus Exige.
I have video footage of them all if you'd like to see!

Ummmm....
interesting....
picture this....
donington...main pit straight....no corners so handling doesn't come into it (if you can change gear and depress your right foot you are laughing)
situation 1: Blue EVO VI Mak....me having to back off in my car before I drove over the top of the bloke...believe me the Mak was trying very hard.
and now some corners...so driver and car ability play a part....
situation 2: Blue EVO VI Mak...down crainer cruves toward the old hairpin...I carried more speed through crainers (but a away from the EVO as I don't 'push' people round tracks...it ain't safe)....at the old hairpin the EVO VI ended up in the kitty litter (and it wasn't me pushing him either...I'm not that kind of a driver)....shame....I wanted to see how well the Mak could be driven thru coppice...but I didn't get a chance.
Yes....the EVO VI are good cars...but they play a very similar game to the Impreza...just my scooby doesn't sound like a washing machine....thats character for you.
I still find the AYC very strange on EVOs...you kinda have to forget what your backside is telling you and put up with the tail of the car moving around a lot....its kinda like getting a bad trolley at sainsburys When the AYC does its stuff its weird...in a scooby its the time for abasive action when the car starts wagging its butt in such a way.
Many good friends of mine drive lovely evos (hi Howard)....remember we have a choice in what we drive...opinions are like @rseholes....we've all got em....its plain simple personal preference.

HE he`s probably a very clever bloke the dude that started all this.
Doing some kind of analytical research into tribal behaviour, and the fact that we all take offence and feel the need to defend our car, makes us feel safe within the group.
OR he is a ***? you decide lol
eitherway just got my first impreza, its very fun (just got to learn how to drive the thinG PROPERLY NOW)

Presumably you refer to the EVO6. Line a Zero Fighter up against a well modded STi6 Type RA V-Limited (arguably the two most extreme variants) and you'll see little difference.
With this in mind, all you got left is appearance and character and I'm soz mate, but you ain't got a leg to stand on there.
I suppose it all depends what you're after. Horses for courses and as ALWAYS, a matter of opinion.

I really try to stay out of these debates as they are unproductive for people who really just enjoy driving superbly capable cars.
I personally admire and respect a whole range of cars for different reasons: the Pulsar GTiR, Escort Cosworth (awesome looks for it's day), Sierra Cosworth, Lancia Integrale and Mitsubishi Evo.
However, I think the people "rise to the bait" on this board for a couple of reasons:
First, the standard UK spec scooby is an awesome out of the box roadcar at an amazing price but it is always pitted against a much higher specc'd and more importantly, more expensive Mitsubishi "equivalent" which should probably be a lot further from the Subaru performance wise at it's price than it is.
Secondly, if Subarus are so terrible, why is this bbs absolutely inundated with people who don't drive them?
If you aspire to one of these cars, then feel free to participate, if not then what's your point? If I don't like something on TV, I change the channel....
And from my experience (for what it's worth) I was faster around Brands Hatch last year on both the straights AND through bends than (at least) one particular EVO6 (we were very obviously both gunning it) in my STi4 and a friend of mine also commented that my car is definitely faster on pickup and was more planted through a number of "test" bends that we drove than his old Evo6.
My mods incidentally were SS backbox, ITG filter and Eibachs (which just transform the handling of an STi and was the best £120 I spent on the car).
Start comparing these cars like for like and if you want to talk about a well tuned EVO against a well tuned Impreza then you might want to look at Craig Hardmans car for the evidence?
Neil.

Catflap is probably right, this is likely a 'let's bait the Scoobers' thread, which has shown very nicely how close to the surface the green eyed monster lurks in Scoobydom when Evo's are mentioned. Wonder why....
There are plenty of folks who are good drivers in top of the range Scoobs that have seen of Evos but compare like for like and you will be headed for land of Mitsi.
As for the boy who claimed that the WR modded P1 is as good as any Evo - what planet are you on? And the bloke who thinks that Scoobs can be tuned to match Evo's - true but try getting most Scoobs to the level of a well modded Evo and you will be going through a few engines trying. I know people who have done just that.
If you can't beat them join them.

Sorry but if you look at my post I've said I like both cars.
I just wonder abou the insecurity of folk who feel the need to say my car is better than yours....

I'm going to be Mr Dull here & ask what what a "man's car" actually is. I think I'd agree with IggDawg waaaay back in the post - basically, a "man's car" is one that is barely controllable, usually 'cos of power, but I suppose it could be handling, suspension, or whatever...
Do you actually really want a "man's car"? Years ago I overtook - easily - a Griffith (definitely a "man's") in my "girlie" 106 Rallye. Why? It was raining. He couldn't drive in a straight line & accelerate at the same time. So... the girlie car was quicker

In that case they were either very poorly driven, or on a cool-down lap Unless of course your second name is actually Schumacher
And on the subject of 'mens cars' - nothing with 4WD is a TRUE mans car try 350bhp/tonne and RWD.......
I'd only just beat you to 60, but then stream away unless its wet, in which case I'll be at home in the warm and dry (I didn't say I was a real man - just drive a real mans car )

I couldn't agree more with most comments that have been made here.
Firstly can I point out that it wasn't me who slated any scoobs and secondly I didn't start this thread.
I merely found it a coincidence that this comment should be made and I'd only got my Evo VI on Saturday and in my opinion I prefer the Evo to my UK scoob I had.
I'd PERSONALLY always rated the Evo a better car than a P1 and as they are cheaper it was an easy decision to buy one.
I'm not in anyway saying I'm a half decent driver, but at the times I'd been out on any track, these were the only cars I came up against.
Lastly - IMHO a "real mans car" is something thats a bloody handful, the Evo is not!!!
Steve
P.S. Have I got a "real mans woman". You'll know what I mean if you've met my wife.

My uncle's Relian Robin is a "real handful"
especially with a boot load to duty free
in the back, on a wet and leaf-covered road.
Does that make it a "man's car" I wonder ?
And what about a Suzuki Vitara ? That is a man's car too ? It is often driven by men too.

Gary,
Friend has got a Megablade, they're great cars - handle like a Scoob can't dream of, but they need more grunt - round Donno (we're similar drivers) he was, err, "slightly" better round the bends (slower ones especially) - although I did have a LOT of fun trying to keep up - but the straights - flew past whenever I wanted - and I've only got an STI
Now if you could stick a turbo on it.......

I've looked at that, $3000 to up the BHP to 200 (from 130) does give a spectacular rise in BHP / Ton
I think I'd prefer a Busa engine for £4K (180Bhp) and get a bigger clutch etc without risking the reliability issues of producing 210 Bhp / Litre using a clutch designed for q 180Kg Motorcycle.
Nitros would of course work spectacularly as well on such a lightweight car.

I don't know why you're all rising to that ski dudes bait......he's obviously doing it on purpose! I don't care if he drives a faster car than me!! I love my Blue/Black MY01 WRX unmodified performance wise just as it is!! it looks cool with the morrettes, its got great handling, good ride without being too harsh, petrol consumption is better than I thought, its fast without having to be compromised....Evo's are nice cars as are many others! Anyone racing around on public roads is asking for trouble anyways....leave it for the track days! Enjoy whatever you drive!!!
