I think the post that started it off was by a cavvy turbo who claimed that Imprezas were slow.

I'm a near full time resident on a Vauxhall bulletin board and we get occasional posts from Ford boys trying to stir it up.

I don't think anyone on our board deludes themselves that Vauxhalls are anything other than cheap to buy and run mass market motors. That doesn't mean we don't love them though. We just have to do more to make them in any well special.

I could afford to buy and insure a Scooby, and I've been tempted a few times. So what makes me stick to messing around with a 10yr old tinny hatch?

Fun I suppose. You can pick up Astra GTEs for around 1K and then get planning and spending on the mods. No I don't mean Peco exhausts and stick on tat, I mean suspension tweaks and engine tuning. It's the research, planning, buying, and DIYing that attract me to it.

Oh and driving it of course.

It's financially attractive too - I own the car outright, I can made modifications as I save money up, and I can stop spending at any time I choose.

Thinking about it, it must be bloody satisfying to outsquirt an Impreza driver (most of whom think that owning an Impreza somehow makes them able to outqualify Schumacher) in something rather more mundane.

With minimal engineering clout, it is possible to build a performance car that will embarass machinery (including Subaru's) for little money. For instance, slotting a standard 2.0 16v Astra motor into a Nova gives a similar power/weight ratio than a UK Scoob. Make it breathe and add a chip, and for a couple of grands worth of motor you are outperforming one up the dual carriageway, if not the twisties of course.

Add into the equation that Subaru drivers tend to suffer from patriotism to the marque that verges on the insane, it is not surprising that plenty on this BBS fall hook, line, sinker and copy of Angling Times to it all, and get so wound up in the "mine is better than yours" type of thread.

And probably why the trolls take so much pleasure in watching some of us rise to the bait.

Thought: Do Ferarri or Diablo owners get incenced when those spotty IT youngsters in their jap crap Imprezas with silly wings and noisy exhausts always try and race at the lights, or overtake them on a blind bend?

If they do it in a dangerous manner I can imagine yes!

One thing that I'd be interested to hear about....
do you get hassle from the rare drivers of really expensive fast cars? They must view Imprezas as horrible cheap and nasty boy racer cars!

If you know what I mean! No offence intended.

Well, it's been said then that there are nobbers, and there are people who bring what they have to the scene of buying, owning, and driving cars, and it's a tired argument really.

Each is to their own, I imagine a lot of you own Scoobies for the fact it is regarded as a high cost rally car for the roads??

It cant just be for the performance, cause face it, for much less you can buy and mod a car, then whip a Scooby and still have change, and that wasn't a dig so just take the leg out of the stirrup and don't bother getting on the high horse.

But then doesn't that classify you as wanting to be noticed and so on??, and therefore getting on the same idea as the boy racers with their huge Baked Bean 4 exhausts and so on to attract attention??(if on a more classy level of course) and pse, though in my opinion a Scooby isn't the thing to do it in, the P1 is nice, the WRX STi also, but mostly their bland, and the new one, well sorry but it just seems **** lookin all round to me. If you wanted a Jap Rally monster buy an EVO?? For a start its gonna do a Scooby by 2 seconds to 60 straight out the box. (both in Standard form)

If u ask me, u should all buy a Rover, but then I'm biased. Basically, we decided to look at this after attention was drawn to the Scooby board by an associate, and for all the "they're just being annoying and childish they'll go away" comments, u lot are also doing a good job of noising them all up and retaliating. But, at leasts it given me something to comment on eh.

Exclamation

I'm an evo man, and the car has plenty of obvious mods.
Any Nova boys wanna swap their jailbait friends for a ride in the motor? ;-)

Only had one guy try his luck in an impreza. not sure if it was UK spec. It was the regular dark green colour so could well have been I guess. hard to tell when he's behind and losing ground! tee hee!

Anyway, my observation was going to be that without exception I have never had a boy racer have a go. plenty of Novas etc. have followed me with their mates gawping, but thats okay. They just want a look. I'm sure they'd like to see how she runs but they don't get that pleasure if we're in a built up area. Have had plenty of youngsters telling me that the car is 'f**king sorted mate'. Pleasant surprise as I thought I mighty get grief but if the car is nice enough it seems you just get respect from the vast majority of people.

Obviously there's gonna be a few real w@nkers out there who would gladly nick it and use it for a variety of illegal activities, but luckily I have not met any.

No_9 > Do you have a Rover? I've got a 220gsi turbo, and pleased with it

The reason I joined this BB was to get an insight into a car that a few of my friends have and get info/ideas on a car I'm considering purchasing as a second motor. If you want to get into arguements about 'my car's better than yours' come on over to the FC BB, it's a hoot

Now I'm no expert here, but I think the whole bag can be sumarised as..

1. Scoobynetters dont care what car you drive and there is no 'scoobies only' to post here rule.

2. what winds everyone up, bearing in mind 1 is non scooby owners coming here with "I whooped a scooby therefore scoobies are ****e" statements. Lots of cars are faster in a motorway straigh line situation, scoobs are build for the twisty B roads.

3. Scoobies are not the best car ever. If I had more cash I would have a posche, as the 911 is my ultimate favourite (close thing with the 360 but 911 wins on practicality). I dont think anyone here whould disagree with the fist part of that. We drive scoobies cos they are within our price range, and we like the rally image, and the look etc of the car (plus performance!). For the price of my car I could have 2 cavalier GSI's and a nova for sundays with the insurance. I choose not to from personal preference.

4. What we object to slightly, or maybe just laugh at, is the other car brands we see on the roads with imitaion scooby parts tacked on, or worse still, stolen scoops and boot wings on them.

NONE OF THIS IS INTENDED TO CAUSE OFFENCE TO ANYONE!

I think we should be very careful stirring drivers of other cars up, I know they do it too, but it just encourages mindless vandalism and s**t like that from pissed up idiots coming home from the pub!eek!
ps. Im not one of them!

Mook, I do have a rover yes, a 214 SEi, runs about 110BHP with the mods I've done. Basically its a GSi with a smaller engine and smaller brakes. Comes with all the electrics and leather sports seats and all.

But I am going to be earning more money now in the job I start on monday and am trading the SEi for a 420 GSI Turbo, so I look forward to that.
