TSL Motorsport 6pot Kit
#31
Any new feedback / info on the TSL kit from new and old users?
Do you now get the problem - described by some here - of ABS kicking in way too early?
What suspension and rear brakes are you running on? If std, any problems with extra dive or rear becoming unstable?
P.S. Are the calipers branded Hi-Spec or TSL (ScoobyK's pics show TSL whereas Mark's - HiSpec). Not that it is going to make any difference to their performance Just interested.

Well I have had the brakes on the car for a month or so now and they are bedded in.
They work very well with a very responsive pedal feel. Full power braking seems impressive too.
I have no doubt they will perform like this for lap upon lap due to the size of them.
I am a bit concerned about the ABS as it does come on at what I would describe as a lower braking force than it used to with the standard scooby kit. I am going to go for a DS2500 rear pad upgrade to try to get the balance back. I would think the slight balance upset is the same with all of these big 4/6pot kits though.

Pete,
OK, "I'm not gonna pay £1791.88 for a set of brakes, period."
And anyone fitting 372mm brakes is compensating for something I'm sure arguments for and against are limited to 'pub talk'
Marc,
The ABS problem appears to be a common thing with these large upgrades. Not sure if the sensitivy can be adjusted or whether you just have to live with it.
John Banks mention upgrading his rear pads to keep the car more settled under braking and to minimise (or prevent) some of the excessive diving from the nose of the car.
Subarussian,
The calipers are Hi-Spec originals but are badged as TSL's (on their website anyway). Not sure why Marc's were left with the original Hi-Spec badging. Only Paul could explain that.

Does fitting these brakes remove the ABS from the car?? I have an RA so it matters not to me but I'm just curious. Could putting this on ADD ABS to a non ABS car. Soz if I sound stupid.

Er, no and no. ABS is an independant system and not part of any of the upgrade kits.
Either the ABS on the cars is very sensitive or the brakes are locking wheels very easily.

Guessing here, and while I'm absolutely happy with my AP 6-pots, brake balance and suspension can make a very big difference.
Theory: big brakes + stock/knackered suspension = nose dives and zero grip at the rear triggers ABS
On the brake balance bit, when I had RS-421 pads (absolutely superb but pricey) brake balance was perfect with DS2000 pads in the rear and Prodrive suspension. UK00 car.
Switched to DS2500 pads in the front (also superb but cheaper) and immediately noticed the pedal pressure needed was less But in a full-on stop, the tail started to weave little. So fitted DS2500 pads in the rear as well (higher friction coefficient) and balance was restored No weaving.
Richard.
PS Edited to add that I think swapping pads for track days is a bad idea as it will upset brake balance. Especially when there are several pads that are excellent for both road and track. See above.
PPS Don't AP-Racing now fit DS2500 pads as standard on all their kits now? And BTW the GGR kits are not offical AP and are cheaper because they don't have the same spec suff (eg discs, 24 vane instead of 48 vane). You get what you pay for and if it's cheap, there's a reason.

couple of sad questions here about the TSL brakes
1) can you choose the colour paint on calipers
2) can you choose the colour paint for the bells.

I've got the HiSpec 335 x 32 Monster 4-pot kit (with DS2500) on my Audi S4. I had them fitted at HiSpec and I have to say they are excellent, as good as the Movit (Porsche) kit I tried on another S4. No brake fade and excellent performance on track days.
My understanding is that the TSL kit is a badged HiSpec kit ( I think that TSL have sole retail rights to the HiSpec kit for the Scooby).
HiSpec can do the bells & carriers in Gold, Black, Silver or Blue and they are anodised not painted. The calipers can be done in these colours as well.
HiSpec are currently developing a 8 Pot kit which will run 4 Pads per disc !
Hope that's of some help.

Hey guys, what's the latest thinking on this kit? Still happy with it? Any "bugs" I should be aware of?
Did you sell your std brakes afterwards? What's the going rate for MY00 4 pots? Or should I keep them to put the car back to std when I sell it?
Thanks!
Andrei

Also v. interested to know. Tried the 6 pots on Graham TSL's car but be interested to know any longer term thoughts.

Well as I kicked the thread off.. my long term thoughts:
The brakes work very well. I've had no leakage problems or things coming undone (I checked the system 500 then 1000 miles after they were fitted). They make a whining sound when you push them really hard (the grooves I think), but are silent and squeak free normally.
They have impressive stopping force - I find myself hurled into the standard belt.
I have a trackday end of March at Cadwell so will then be in a position to comment on their ability to withstand a lot of punishment. I am also looking to try a low-cost rear pad upgrade to see if the "standing on its nose" is made better or worse.

P.S.
I am just about to clean up my old calipers/disks for sale. They only had about 800miles on brand new disks and Pagid Blues so I guess someone will want them.

The demo drive was awesome. I remember actually thinking '****' and 'this car could really do with 4 point harnesses'!
I had a quick drive myself and it felt great, firm initial bite, no sqealing, and then basically however much progression and stopping power you could want. The noise when you really squeeze them is fantastic and I didnt feel ABS kicking in at all, even over bumps.
Getting mine fitted in April, ready for Japfest.
