Well they say imitation is the best (or is it sincerest) form of flattery.

What's the problem?
Most 18 or so year olds cannot afford Scoobs, if they could the insurance and running costs would kill 'em.

I spent most of my cash over the years on my cars/doing up as and when i could.

Each to his/her own.

We all have one thing in common - we love our cars.

And to think - I used to wonder why us Scoob owners got in the neck about thinking we are better than everyone else or Godlike

Like the dude posting above me says, each to their own.

I'd love to have a Scooby, but finances restrict me to smaller engined cars.

granted, the Audi 100 with the scoop on it makes me ask Why?

We've all got to start somewhere and i personally think that a corsa is a good base. Its 'moddable' (a few running around 200bhp) cheap to run, and a fun little car. Sure we'd all love the joys of a 4WD car, but at 22 i'd rather learn to be a better driver before i get something too big for me to handle.

We get plenty of people coming on corsasport giving it the large one saying corsa's are sh1te, why dont u get a cossie/VTR/VTS/RST or Arnage red label (why a bentley i dont know) But at the end of the day, we're happy with what we've got.

Personally i wouldnt do a scooby scoop on mine (not that my car is heavily modded anyway) because i see the whole point of modding is to do something thats not been done before, hence a few people have custom parts/mods done to their cars.

Quit running us 'modders' down. You've all obviously got the finance to start with what is basically a super car so you dont feel the need to try and improve on it much. We start out with under powered engine units and 'basic' looks which need improving.

Like the guy abouve me said, WE're all into our cars, thats the main thing.

Said me 2 pence worth, i'll go away now

oh dear oh dear.

It never ends does it. With the exception of some level headed people, namely ptholt etc, the rest of you don't seem to realise how the rest of the car owner world view scooby drivers. You do not drive the best cars in the world, in fact the new scoob is an embarrasment and i can see evo7 sales on the rise.

I remember not so long a go a scooby driver on here asking about side window stickers showing his name??????? and it recieved loads of replies and suggestions from these so called 'grown ups'. Window stickers...jeeez. get a life

put youre rose tinted glasses back on for gods sake, youre not ready for the REAL world just yet.

Glad to see the snobbery is still alive and well. I feel I must say my part on behalf of Corsa owners everywhere Well, at Trax at least.

I had around 30 Corsas come along to be on the corsasport.co.uk stand at the show and as far as I can remember there were only a few scoops dotted about, certainly its not a compulsary mod for us mindless sheep

In fact the only three scoops I can remember on my stand. One Vauxhall Monterey, the others both functional cut-in fiberglass. One being replaced shortly by a custom made scoop to direct air straight in to a custom made airbox under the front offside of the bonnet (not based on scooby shape) and the other, admittedly scooby shaped, feeding air to a 180bhp throttle body conversion.

I also didn't see (read 'haven't ever seen') an STi/P1/whatever else tailgate spoiler fitted to a Corsa - I'd be very impressed if it was actually phyically possible given the Corsa is a hatch!

Hi I am a nova owner, and I just wanted to set a few things straight.

1) The fact that you mentioned that nearly every nova has a body kit on well I think this due to the car being 14 years old, and if they looked as nice as Scooby’s when we brought them we wouldn't be forced into spending money on dated looks. The fact is in 14 years time Scooby’s will be subject to the same fate as novas only a little more dignified. They also will have the latest fashion splashed across their bonnets *****-nilly... and bumpers to improve the dated looks.

2) Not all of us can afford scobbys, so I am afraid that you will all have to put up with "GEL BOYS" and "there passengers" as soon as scobbys fall in price we will start to see your "John" boys driving them. Some Nova and Corsa owners should be taken more seriously. We spend as much time and efforts in our cars as you boys, but still get ridiculed!

The fact that you are comparing a 14 year old car with a modern day super car is exactly the reason we get spurned on, and is exactly the reason what makes people like Brett Logan fit 2.5 V6's in his Nova, so by trying to put us down and make us retire to the shadows you are actually doing us all a favour, but it still annoys us when we don't get any respect from people who are higher in the food chain!

Thanks for your time
Dan Johnson

END RANT!!

Nice one Dan, good points well made. Your justification for bodykits etc is IMHO quite fair. Personally I have no problems with people 'maxing' their cars, and often like some of the more sensible ones as I do any car. To be honest my Scoob isn't exactly standard cosmetically either, does that make me a baseball cap wearing boy racer?

However I hope you agree that cosmetically a scoop on Corsa's and Ford Ka's looks really naff? If they are feeding intercoolers etc, then fair enough but otherwise

who the fu*k said scoobies are higher in the food chain?

I drive a v6 vectra and used to have a 2litre corsa. Which by chance had a scooby vent on. This was because fitting the big engine into such a small engine bay created a lot of underbonnet heat, especially in traffic. Even exhaust wrap didn't help that much, hence the vent.

and belive me, youre scoobies are not as big or clever on the motorways....the reason you guys bought a scooby (to emabrass more expensive cars like porsches etc) is the same reason we mod corsas to beat scoobies. Only we spend £5k doing it including the car? can you say the same thing?

and when i get my company car at the end of the year i won't be getting a scooby but an audi, because i don't want to join such an 'up their own ****' bunch of hyprocritical people.

anyway, gold wheels are boring as f*ck now

Well done Andy you've just manage to bitch about the entire Scooby community rather than those specific people who made 'snobbish' comments. Despite the fact I mentioned it was acceptable (in a practical sense) in your circumstances. I maintain my favorable opinion on Corsa owners with the exception of YOU!!!

May your Audi have three spoke alloys!

Nice to see that some people ignored my previous post and carried on (insert make of other car here) bashing.

Just goes to show that some of us are as hypocritical and bigoted as the porsche owners at Bentley and the integrale evo forum that accused of us being the max power brigade.

Next time someone posts a thread about something like this, please think back and remeber how you felt when owners of other cars have slagged us off, rather than repay the favour onto some other car/modders, why not just smile at them and let them get on with there lives and not raise to the bait, rather than displaying the same narrow minded attitude.

Makes me laugh at times, we bitch and moan about how xyz slagged us off, then do the exact same thing to another group!
people in glass houses.......
pot calling the kettle................

someone close this rather embarrassing thread now, with attitudes like some of these on display, theres very little of any worth left to be said.

By the same token, in the same way I don't cast a snooty glance at, as Dan said, people who care about their cars, I'd hope other car enthusiasts don't view all Impreza owners as being up their own wotsits.

My first car was a boxy 1.3 Astra and I loved the exhaust note. My second was a VW beetle, great drive, great exhaust note. I've since owned Golf GTI / VR6 and ahem, ahem a BMW.

I drive a P1 now and I'm aware of it's abilities and performance but I'd never make a point of 'proving it' to anyone. Snobbery makes me puke, no matter how it manifests itself.

If I'm not mistaken only about two people have dissed the Corsa and the people who upgrade them. To call everyone in this thread "hyprocritical" I think is as narrow minded as the people who said those comments in the first place. I used to have a mini and I modded it as much as possible. It's the only way your going to get looks driving a Mayfair. Believe me it was anything but when I'd finshed with it.
I say respect to the Corsa boys, they always give me respect when I fly past them

A reply to the holier-than-thou,politically correct New Men on here:
Snobbery? i dont think so, thats not the point that was being made. The point was bad taste, very bad taste in some cases. Im refering to those "Blue Peter" modifiers that think they can make a £20 shed a ferrari-look-a-like with sticky back plastic and bog roll.

I have nothing against peops who wish to improve the appearance of their cars. Thats not the issue here! But if you are going to do something do it properly. Indeed i have seen some corsas/novas that look quite good kitted up.

Some of these cars sport fake/real impreza parts. A proportion of the real parts are from stolen imprezas that have never been recovered or from some low life ripping them off with a screwdriver. Think about that the next time u see a impreza spoiler/vent etc on some heap.

Just for the record, Ive had £1800 of kit ripped off a previous impreza.

"and belive me, youre scoobies are not as big or clever on the motorways...."

Hey Andy,

In my many miles travelled each week I have noticed that the Vectra is usually the one who tries to race on a motorway (Scooby's don't have to prove anything we know we'll whip your ***). Funny thing is they always horse off like loonies... let 'em go they're good Police fodder. Any fool can tank it on a motorway, trouble is most of you cause accidents. An unknown driver thought he was clever cutting me up when joining a motorway, so clever that I clipped another car, went into a spin and took out the central reservation.

If he's ever traced I'd like him to speak to my lawyer over my cracked rib.

Pete_uk99,

I take it your comments re being hypocritical where aimed at me?
If so i take it the phrase 'some of us' that i posted above passed you by? Not quite sure how you misinterpret that to be 'everyone in the thread' though.
If not directed at me, i apologise.

I was also trying to point out the fact that this is not the first and unfortunately not the last time something like this will happend.

Re scoobynuttas collection of items that were stolen, perhaps if the thread was started with that and aimed at the selfish fools committing the act, rather than what seemed to be a dig against modified car owners, perhaps this could have been avoided.

Ptholt

I think you are interpreting peoples posts wrongly. As Scoobynutta and Pete have mentioned very few, if any, people have actually critisised actual Corsas etc, nor for that matter have they really critisised Corsa owners for modding them. The topic of this thread was supposed to be about certain 'mods' which people felt were either OTT or silly (in their opinions!). I seem to remember most users slagging this off two weeks ago......

.....for exactly the same reasons, they felt it was too much and basically cosmetic mods just for the sake of it (even though it is obviously to someones tastes). They weren't slagging of all Imprezas and Impreza owners!!!

I also think that some of the people defending Corsa owners are actually doing them a disservice when they say that they are all they can afford at their age. I for one took great offence when EVO owners made a similar comment about Scooby owners. I'm sure many people buy them because its what they want, its what they like. We all have different tastes and dont have to buy a preset car dependant on what our budget and means are. Lots of people enjoy taking an everyday car and making it a bit special, and many spend so much money on them that they could have easily bought and insured Scoobs!! (Had they wanted!)
I was lucky enough to meet Peter Dennis (a scoobynet user) a few weeks ago and he had with him his 2litre Corsa. He had obviously spent £?000,s on his car and it was awesome, IMO it looked the nuts. A nice, line enhancing kit, wicked alloys, other body mods which were sleek and subtle and a serious amount of engine developements. It attracted lots of attention on the street, including one retired gentleman who was obviously quite smitten (he didn't even glance at my Scoob !!!). No-one has a problem with that sort of thing, or that done to any car, it was things like Cossie whale tales on the back of Ka's, scoops stuck on with blu-tack etc, the over the top silly mods that some people do to their cars, (including Scoobs) that was the meant to be the subject!!!!

One last thing, I quite like the one above (flamesuit on!!!)

I think a bonnet scoop can look quite nice when blended into the bonnet, I think the stuck on ones look a bit crappy but each to their own.......

On the "maxing" front it appears there is a shift from the Subaru scoop to the Evo vent, just can't wait for the cossie whale tail to come back into fashion!!!!

Cheers lads I am glad we sorted that out and some very well put points were made too. Maybe one day you can have a visit to our Nova chat room, it's made on exactley the same concept.

Maybe one day I shall be on this site with a scooby! Until then I have to concentrate on re-building my 2.0i 16v Cav GSi engine that shall soon be lurking under my bonnet.
