chill out guys!!
harvey, for ease of argument, could you scan your run and post it. I saw it run at well lane, and it was 'different' to any others on the day. I personally, would like to look at the graph again, just to compare cross points with mine (see how far off the mark i am).
If you enjoy driving it on the road then fine, thats all that counts IMO, because thats all i care about on mine, wether I enjoy driving it, no one els!
Guys dont rise to oneanothers bait, just chill out its a friday, go to the pub have a pint and relax

steven you are right.
apologies to anyone aggrieved by my defensive outburst. Guess I should congratulate harvey for being one of the few people to get me genuinely upset by posting.
Now I have to face the stress of moving house. does anyone have any soothing advice on that?

lol @ scoobee,
by the sound of it, I think I was an agitator more than an agitatee.
am moving up the housing ladder, but now that you mention it, movign down, would offset the cost of the car significantly.
Unfortunately my local estate agents dont see the kind of cardboard box I would be after once I have paid for the engine.

I can see why this topic would make a few people 'touchy'. If you've spent 5k, 10k, 15k or whatever on your car your obviously going to be a bit defensive about it's performance. I don't have this problem 'cos i've certainly not spent a lot of money or time on my car. I think, as stated above, if your happy with the car then who gives a **** what anybody else thinks.
Anyway... it's Friday so you should have that 'crunchie' feeling . Chill out and feel glad your not driving a 'wicked, sorted, maxed, top RS Turbo' .
Tony.

Here are some interesting facts, almost all japaneese tuners go to the TSUKUBA circuit to test their track cars, and street cars. The fact is that any car that laps below 1 minute is seriously fast. One of the most famous japaneese tuners is JUN so here are the times:
JUN WRX with EJ25 engine, circuit spec has 567ps/6800 rpm & 68.3kgm/4800 rpm (remember this is circuit spec, it can make more power). Time: 0'58'422
JUN EVO 5 with stroked 2.2L 4G63 engine, circuit spec has 575ps/7200rpm & 64.5kgm/5500 rpm. Time: 0'56'916
Best time before was of a Skyline GTR, 0'57'301 ..... but now the EVO 7 2021cc (higher compression pistons and +0.5) made by HKS/Kansai with less power ~ 500 hp revs higher (turbo HKS GT 3037s) and has a better power range has made 0'56'500.

hmmmmmm both JUN, HKS and other tuners take this very seriously and hire "professional" drivers when looking for the best times. And BTW the fastest WRX is the ZEROSPORTS one and it is 2010cc !!!!!

All these engines and turbo arrangements look very similar to one persons on here... Wonder who that could be...

Well just seen this thread!!!!!
Back on topic - I am just a bit puzzled as to why Scoooooooooooooobeeeeeeeeeeeee is asking this question.
I think it is because 2.5s are either too powerful, or too expensive, or not reliable.
IMHO, to get a 2l to produce 400bhp, will cost around the same as to get a 2.5l to produce 400bhp, and if you do it with a 2.5l car you will have the choice of
* more power if you want it
* broader torque band
* earlier spool up
On the road the I would take the 2.5l personally, but on track either would do, the 2l would be lovely and revvy and could be made into a real screamer compared to the 2.5l - so ultimately it boils down to what you actually want to achieve.
Oh, and one final thing, lots of comments about easily achieving 350bhp from a Scoob for a couple of grand...
...not likely apart from the really dedicated and very inventive DIY specialists - who I admire hugely (well for the mechanical talent and ability to spend hours and hours and hours on their cars). Typical spend for that power, for reliable everyday use is £4500-7000. Some people have spent up to twice that and got a lot less power. Two litres is a route fraught with very big expense if you want very big power, i.e. genuine 350bhp plus.
So at least for the expense side of the question - I think it is an invalid question. For driveability - give me torque on the road, any day.
Trout
PS And everyone, CHILL OUT!
PPS Scoobee - you also said that 2l would be better as it wouldn't have the torque to break traction - Group N cars easily make 400lbsft from 2l.........

If I am all talk (which I resent by the way) then take a trip over to bill gwynne and see for yourself what is going on with my engine, and car, which have both been sitting there since jan. Believe me I would rather have just produced the same 350bhp cars everyone else has.
sounds like there is nothing going on with your engine at all or you would have had it back 10 months ago!
is this car just a figment of your imagination?

If someone will gladly host them, I will email some pics of the car at bgs with a fake engine in it for the purpose of fabricating the custom up pipe. Also have some nice piccies of the closed 2.5 with wire ring and head studs.
Nova, you are right about build time, but have had to wait for a lot of the parts to be made too. Also the first 3 months I was in a queue waiting for an engine builder. When they finally started, they found my crank out of tolerance so I had a billet one made that I had to wait 10 weeks for. That arrived last friday, and now I have to reorder my pistons as they were not suitable, so in a month it can be started and hopefully all will be fine. I cant see them starting it just before christmas though
