Thumbs down

Lee,
I wasn't going to bother posting on this topic, as Ima IS a wind-up merchant - BUT then I saw your post.

This annoyed me more than your anything Ima has ever said on the RS BBS, and so for your information my engine and running gear probably cost more than your whole car, so up yours with the superior attitude....

Some people CHOSE to be different rather than being sheep and buying the next "fashionable" car...

Hear hear Mike.

I could've bought something other than an STI V - wanted to tinker and have an everyday car. Didn't want something mundane (like an M3 at the time) so it came down to STI or EVO.

For what I've spent on the car and mods, I could've bought something different, granted.

Didn't want to, not couldn't afford to....we're talking within reason here btw - not talking about 355's or the like.

So by your reasoning, theres no point buying an E type Jag, Ferrari Dino, etc etc - as there are newer cars out there that do the same thing, for the same money, but are better quality? Each to there own - but without the "I'm better than you attitude" I reckon......

ps - 350hp P1? How many of those are there around then?

Cool

Mike - I take it with 514 BHP you have one of the most highly tuned Cossies arond? And you raced it against one of the most highly tuned R1's around? Strange that cos an R1 went through the speed trap at the Northwest200 proddy race last year at 189 MPH. The proddy race only allows exhaust and suspension mods, so it wasn't a race bike, and the speed trap is a transponder triggered measured mile, so no doubt about the speed. (One of the K&N race bikes went through at 195...)

Must have been a really really cold day or something

Fat bloke,
No, the R1 was standard, but ridden by a professional rider (from Performance Bikes), but timed on a different day (but at the same 1.8 mile runway) using the same Datron timing gear.

And no, mine is a baby 500 engine, as I wanted it to be reliable (it has done over 13k trouble free miles so far). 552bhp is possible with the same set up as I have, but bigger valves, different cams and a touch more boost. The problem with this is that it stretches the running gear somewhat and as I have already got through six diffs and two gearboxes, with the "baby" 500 engine and the 400bhp one, I thought it wise to try and keep the power curve as progressive as possible.

670bhp is possible, but requires a £3k turbo and £4.5k worth of internals - Billet crank to cope with new 9200 rev limit, custom made light-weight pistons and rods, head and cams and that is before you even add labour / dyno / mapping costs!

Also, you obviously can't read, as my speed of 180.9 was done with ambient temps of 30°C and ACT temps of 50°C. I know for a fact that at these temps that the car only makes 395bhp @ wheels due to the 12° of ignition retard. Given a cooler day and longer runway, it WOULD go faster - we had another 1000 revs to go. This speed was achieved at just under peak power (7000 revs) and it only drops 1.5bhp between 7000 and 7500 and revs to 8000. 200mph is the THEORETICAL limit, but I wouldn't expect it to go beyond 190 on the current power.

Also forgot to say that the R1 "only" did 176.3mph in the same distance. Don't forget this was with a PROFESSIONAL rider, whereas I was driving my car and I would expect a professional driver would have achieved a good few mph more by being able to take the bend before the straight at a much higher speed due to much higher skill level (as "I couldn't drive a slippery stick up a dog's ****"....).

It really does surprise me the amount of people that buy an EVO, Scoob or Cossie and then compare speeds. Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm sure all these cars were designed for the road and rally. If you want a car that goes like the clappers in a straight lind buy a dragster.
All these cars are great cars but they're never going to be the fastest thing on earth because that’s not what they're meant for. I think what most people are trying to say on this thread is that they bought a scoob because it's a brilliant road and track car. It also does have the added bonus of being quick but it's never going to keep up with a dragster. But put both of these on bendy roads and I really don't think you can compare. The key word here is overall. Your car has to be good (not great) at all elements i.e. speed, handling, braking. Comparing just speed is like saying that an athlete competing in the decathlon who's the fastest at 100 metres is the best. You have to complete all the events, so get on a track mate and put your money where your mouth is.

Well ima (ture) pointless question really, no cars are the same, your tuned cossie at 310bhp or what ever it is is quicker than a uk scoob on paper, but on a wet road or track maybe not. but i t may get totally stuffed by a P1 with 350 bhp, if you really want to know and alot is down to the driver why not get it on track and see. and to be fair i know the scoob is probably more expensive but i wouldnt be seen dead in that relic, history on wheels. and dont give me the bull that you can afford better but you just like tinkering, human nature tends to be if youve got the money you would have better, and if its tinkering you like and you could afford better it would be a second car. so why not go away in short jerky movements and go and give the old girl a T-CUT, but watch out for the rusty bits. if you were a genuine rs enthusiast you wouldnt be being a **** asking such daft questions. good luck.

Lee,
Don't worry, I just get annoyed at such sweeping generalisations. I realise that I am probably not your typical Cossie owner, but then the car is not a typical Cossie .

Gilly,
See you on the track then...

I'm all for people coming on "talking" about their mods, fast cars etc. If they want to come on and brag (even in a roundabout way), then I want to see something worth bragging about. I want to see flames out of the exhaust (respect Mike!), wheel nut shearing torque and HUGE BHP figures. Nowadays power is cheap and getting an extra 80BHP from your cossie isn't that great - 180Mph, 360BHP Alpina (unmodified) for less than 10G anyone?.

Unhappy

Having owned both a 3-door Cosworth (for 11 years) and an STi, I can say that for me the STi is the quicker car. I have not driven it at such high speeds as I drove the Cosworth, but for day-to-day use it's the STi for me.

I still love the old Cosworths, and irrationally look to buy one again, but I know really that I'm better off with what I've got.

Now then, can the webmaster automatically reject all topics with either "v", "vs" or "versus" as this really is a boring topic. I have noticed that I am often the last person to post on many of those I respond to. Here's hoping my record keeps up.

BTW, respect to Mr Rainbird, and thanks to him for pointing me in the direction of this board many moons ago.

It took a lot of slagging for Ima to stop this nonsense on the RS board. Just when you thought he had learned he posts this!! Not the sharpest tool in the box - someone show him where the muppets live
