I have just watched and witnessed what you get when you mix a FEW (and I mean a few!!) brain cells with a Dyke!!

Truly unbelievable - I am amazed you are allowed to vote!!

I see the Army, after a couple of weeks training are all up and running - managing with a THIRD of the numbers of Firemen - talk about overmanning!!!!

Offer the jobs to the squaddies - they will LOVE it - £21k for a part-time job!! AND not getting shot at!! In fact I may just take one also!! Why not?? ANYONE can do it!!

You will be glad of our nuclear capability when some terrorist state takes a fancy to attack us!! He may, just may, think twice if he KNOWS he and his homeland will also be obliterated!! Its also got to have a Union Jack on it!!

Banshi Hurrah, now I agree with you
GTT I am delighted that I’ve managed to exert some influence, but remain a little confused

Were you agreeing that I wasn’t patronising, I was older than Mr Lewis, that Bravo and I had reached a consensus view, the firefighters didn’t warrant £30k. my logic was irrefutable, many other people risk their lives, many hard working professionals are exposed to emotional trauma or that we should argue about a potential war with Iraq

BTW The station that watched as the army struggled to control the fireworks factory blaze last week. Proudly proclaim that they answered almost 4,000 calls in 1999, given the collective intellect displayed I'm sure you are able to do the arithmetic.

Don't forget to allow for hoax calls, stranded cats & little boys with their heads stuck in railings will you.

Question

TrailerTrash .......... Deary??????????????????????????

Surely to god you dont REALLY talk like that?? You do?? Sorry can't help, suggest you find a CND peacewoman to play with - they will, however, stretch your intellect!! They are however all dykes so you will be well away with the fairies!!

Bravo2Zero - what a name, dreaming of being an Action Man are we?? Bless him - he is a geek in IT and wants to play soldiers

Pete

It's past your bedtime m8.

Whats happened?

Nurses adopted the F/f work ethic and started sleeping on duty?

Thumbs up

Great job the Forces... I am thankful for your efforts.

The interviews with the forces guys and the interviews with the strikers shows a stark contrast.

Well done the Government for sticking to their guns.

To the Firemen:
Get back to work and stop being childish and greedy. imho 4% is a good rise when you could all slowly be replaced.

As for danger... ha!
Try doing my m8's job... having to earth a 200 kV line so that other people can work on it... if its not isolated then BANG!
Or wind blowing the earthing pole onto a live high voltage line.

If you try to bully the government to give more money, we will ALL end up paying for it.. job loses, economic problems, higher taxes. I am NOT prepared to settle for that.

This is the wrong time completely to be doing this, it shows how far away from reality some people are.
I do not know if I will have my job in 2 years time... not much security to put down roots, but you do... surely thats a big advantage.
As for pension... more folk would kill for the deal your given... I HAVE TO put MUCH more than 200 quid away a month to have a decent pension.

So what if you cant afford a house in the South East... neither can most people.

Finally, I dont appreciate my life being at risk.

Thank you the Forces... we can ALWAYS count on YOU!

Bravo2Zero - I have my name for a very good reason??
------------------------------------------------------------------

You are NOT suggesting for one moment that you have 'BEEN' someone in your life?? Do me a favour - the way you talk on this BBS shows that you aint been diddly, EVER!!

You CERTAINLY would NOT slag-off the fantastic job the lads are doing because the Firemen are a greedy buch of mis-led mis-fits!!

How does £1100 per month equate to £21k per year?

It's a **** wage, though.

Such a balanced, reasoned man. NOT.

They do nothing when there's nothing to do - they risk their lives to save you, me, your/my kids, etc. when called upon.

if they dont like the structure of pay.. then talk about it

but no.. they want 40% for everyone... so it seems

even if it was structured on service, we could not support, or require, lots of very experienced firemen on high pay.
The Team would require a mix of abilities and experience.
That means job losses for some to make way for others.

Besides, if i keep doing the same job then i will get no rise.

My job is 'modernised' because of economic neccessity.
The mentality of 'we cannot touch public sector workers jobs because they are needed' is ballocks and outdated.
Yes... firemen do a vital job.
As do the rest of the services.
Its a poor show if the job cannot be changed over time.
And we need enough of them, but surely technology changes and new methods mean that the job can be done more efficently yet to the same or higher standard.

The firemen have said that they have modernised their work... well good.
But now your asking for a massive raise... and that cannot come out of thin air.
So what if the government got a 40% increase! Thats unrelated to this. Or are you saying that my 5% and no change in pension contribution or any other benifits should also be 40%! Bad argument...
You are not going to get 40%.

Steve - I'm in the forces but get payed more than firemen.

Forces pay is incremental and goes up year on year and with rank progress. I'm not sure how firemen's pay is structured but it seems that they hit their limit quickly and that's that.

£1100 pick up is true ,pension contributions do come into the picture ,but these do not pay for a better standard of living now.
