The garage which we built ourselves
Front room, part way through rebuild
Err..where the stairs should be
New front door in room
Stairway
Part of upstairs room halfway through rebuild
Sort of another part of it
Pantry, not even started
The middle room, which hasn’t been started, because half will be demolished and rebuilt

DIY forum - yes please
Then I can moan about how you get your partner to finish a job, not leaving you with a bathroom with most of the edge tiles missing. Why does Dave hate the edge tiles? - I bought him a tile cutter.

TIP No. 1
Dont use a stihl saw inside, (in a small room)
Exhaust... dust... noise...
Im filthy..
Tommorow we are stihl saw racing... see who can stay in the room longest...
I may even do a bathroom conversion thread..
Thankfully no women to tidy up whilst your trying to work...

"Where did I put that screwdriver/hammer/essential tool - I'm sure it was down here under my hand where it's easy to get at"
"Oh, I put it back in the garage"
"Thanks..."

If you would make up your mind about what you want in thr kitchen as well, we could get on faster...

Steven,
I envy you and your (v)nice car, then I saw the pictures of your house, and thought, "that's fair".
You poor *******! That's a lot of work to do (and has been done), I hope it all goes well, and here's hoping for some form of warm water before chrismas!
Did you realise the amount of work that you would be doing when you bought the place? Still garage first, got your priorities the right way round*.
Paul
*Where would you put the house contents when doing the rest if you didn't have a garage, so of course it's the top priority.

Hi Paul
Yes we realised what we had instore for us, although Emma did bring the schedule forward somewhat when she lost her temper and started attacking the front room.
The worst is yet to come sadly, will see off every evening next year i fear, and all my work holidays. Still, i get some sort of enjoyment and satisfaction out of it.

Nice pics Steve
If we arrive on Sunday I'll help in whatever way I can, but my areas of expertise are more in the "moving heavy objects" or "using a hammer in an industrial type fashion" department

Steven,
I know what it's like to bring the schedule forward. I started just taking some tiles off, next thing I knew I had a 2ft square lump of plaster an inch thick coming off the wall. From then on it was just a case of using ever bigger hammers, until I ended up using a lightweight kango to remove the plaster lock stock and barrel.

Paul, we used a 4ft heavyduty (can do roads with it) to remove ours. There was plaster on CONCRETE!!!. It was a little scary when the odd brick came out with the plaster/concrete.
Need to measure the staircase dimensions tonight, so that we can have plans drawn by Davids dad and then we can build it on Saturday/Sunday.

I also used the kango with scaling bit for just the tiles. The rubbery adhesive is a bitch, because the tiles don't pop off.
Biggest pain was initially trying to leave the plaster intact, only realising it was detached from the wall after removing 100s of tiles with hammer and chisel.
Oh yeah, one wall adjoins the neighbours, they said it was the loudest thing they had ever heard.

No worries mate, glad to have helped. It was too chuffin' cold without those windows in
Had fun on the way back playing petrol russian roulette. Light came on just before little chef on a64, so stopped there, looked at sign, though "Q8 petrol? Whaaaaat?" and made it back to leeds
