Chelle, I take it that you've read all the Anne McCaffrey books?

Kind of dragon related is Terry Pratchett's Guards Guards - as in, it has dragons in it..

If you like Terry Pratchett novels, you'll like Craig Shaw Gardner, although I don't recommend walking into WHSmiths and asking for "Bride of the Slime Monster" and "The Volcano God" as you get some incredibly odd looks!

Robert Rankin is ok...the Sprouts of Wrath series got a little tired after a while and he explains far too many details, doesn't treat his audience as if they are over 9, explanation-wise...

Who else....day-amn...I have shed-loads of books and I can't recall them at present...I'll have a wee ponder and get back to you.

BTW, Jase - I'll ignore your "wraith" if you'll ignore my double m!

Clare - it's easy to keep them all going and not get them mixed up....

I read whatever suits my mood at the time, so they are all different kinds of books.

How can you possibly say that on this BBS clare?
John, I meant it in a reading sense, but yes, what a stupid thing to say.

Alcazar, I am always trying to get into other authors, but find it difficult to due to thinking that I won't like their books and wasting time! I stick to what I know, but this is probably the wrong approach, I should widen my tastes.

I have tried to read Terry Pratchett, but found his books rather not to my taste, sorry!

Also, I like books in the modern era. Saying that, have any of you read Timeline by Michael Crichton? Excellent book, even though it was good for me because I have visited the Dordogne a couple of times so I could imagine the scenery. They said they were making that into a film, don't think it's happened yet though.

Clare - which Terry Pratchett books have you read? He has differing styles... Colour of Magic & Light Fantastic were his 2 earliest and are not as good, IMO as Wyrd Sisters, Mort, Equal Rites or Guards Guards! etc.

His later stuff has changed from this style as well and again, it's not as good...

On top of those you have Truckers, Diggers and Wings which are for children and Strata and Dark Side of the Sun are completely different again...

Have no idea which one. It was a while ago. I may have changed opinion if I tried one now, but like I say, I stick to what I know I like. If I'm going to spend money on books, I want to make the right choice

I have all of Michael Crichton's books.
I have read and enjoyed all of Anne McCaffrey's including the non-dragon series - of which I enjoyed the Crystal Singer range the best.
I have all of Terry Pratchett's books.......
All of Brian Lumley's, Anne Rice's loads of others too. Can't think of them at the moment, apart from the fact all are in storage - oh and Arthur C Clarke.

MP, I might start reading the Tom Holt ones, is Holt spelt with an e at the end or not?

Currently reading James Herbert - The Others, also The Code Book by Simon Singh, the code book is quite intense and requires a fair amount of concentration, if you like figures that is. I have read quite a lot of James Herberts books and also John Grisham - Court room type books.

I've got a bookcase full of thrillers. Loads of Tom Clancy stuff, although I went off the Op Centre series.

Andy McNab, Chris Ryan - the ex SAS guys are right up my street.

Picked up a Fredrick Forysth of my Dad's last night. Is very good so far.

I get hooked into a book and before I know it, it's 2am or 3am

James Herbert.. absolute classic, I read the Lair when I was 12 checked under my bed every day for 6 months for giant rats.

Reading Liars Poker by Michale Lewis again a book about 1980's excesses in the world of high finance at Salomon Brothers. Liars Poker is a game the traders used to play betting on the serial numbers... It is said that one day the chairman of salomon went up to the head trader and said " one hand, one million dollars, no tears"

The Head trader said " No John, if we're going to pay for those kind of numbers, I'd rather play for real money. Ten million dollars, no tears"

A fun book

OK so I'm the sado'. I have just put down my "Dale Carnegie's Golden Book". I don't know if any of you have read his two famous books "How to win friends ind infuence people" and "Stop worrying and start living", I know some people think what a load of cr@p but they have worked for me. The little golden book we were all given has little hints and tips. In the section how to overcome worry is a good principle "Ask your self, what is the worst that can possibly happen?, prepare to accept the worst, try to improve on the worst."

So if anyone wants a counselling session I'm available and I have all the books AND they are good.

I also love Pratchett's books!

I use that principle as well, but i read it in "The art of the Deal" by Donald Trump(excellent book btw). One of his top 10 tips for success was...

*Protect the downside and the upside will take care of itself*....same priciple, just different words.

Have just been in town at lunch and saw a book "No Logo" about branding, looks interesting. The only thing is i have too many books on the go already....also want to get..."The long road out of Hell" by MM...and "The Art of the comeback" also by Donald Trump.

Ferne, have also read,How to win friends etc.....not sad,a good book IMO

And finally,i have only ever read one story..The Hobbit at school......only cos i had to...

And there is not a lot of it on my bookshelf. There is not a lot of it on there because there is too much fiction.
