Was that to me, Jen? I wasn't saying that I was attracted to "bad" guys - the opposite, in fact - I find them complete twazzocks, generally, it's just the confidence thing that's attractive.

Saying "You're a nice chap but..." is inifnitely better than saying "You know, there's nothing there...toodle pip."
Sorry, I beg to differ! I've been on the end "you're nice but" a million times and it stinks of sh*t! If you don't like me just say and lets both stop wasting our time

Women forget that men think rationally

The worst thing for a man is to be in the "Friend Zone". Its like being in a relationship with the girl but without the sex and having to listen to said girl's every detail of what she got up to with Mr X whom she just met up with last night.

Bob - "You are nice but..." is not as bad as "I think of you as a friend I could tell anything" or I think of you like a brother."!

BTW I still hold doors open, walk on the outside of the pavements (muc to the annoyance of some), follow women through doors and upstairs (a few court cases pending as a result of that!.

Did you know however the man is meant to go downstairs first? Just in case the woman slips and falls...

I'm always polite to women, hold doors etc... doesn't get me anywhere though
..and where should it get you, surely women want something more than someone who just holds doors open.

To be honest, some of you guys do sound a bit wimpish, for want of a better phrase, moaning that you're too nice, and always getting the brush off.Feeling sorry for yourself aint exactly an attracive quality in a person.

Also, its a fact of life that sometimes 'nice' people are just plain boring, and like Mice said, some so called 'bad' people do have a certain confidence about them which people find attractive.

In the ends its about a balance, dont be too nice that you're boring, but dont be too 'bad' that you end up treating people badly or end up being an arsehole. Not easy.....

Problem is that most women are either looking to marry their dad or else looking to marry someone their dad wouldn't approve of, to try and get back at him for not paying them enough attention when they were 12. so all you have to do is look at the dad. If he's a tory MP and she hates him, you better be a roughneck musclehead with the IQ of a fence post. If he's a roughneck musclehead with the IQ of a fence post and she loves him, get yourself down to the local vets and ask for a lobotomy.

It's nice for a bloke to hold the door open or walk next to the road etc but it could get a little boring if it was constant!!! I'm a control freak and prefer being dominant/in charge most of the time!! My poor fella tried once to be a gentleman, failed and never bothered again!!! By the way, he is no sap!! He's just pleased he don't have to make a ***** of himself in public

Putting yourself out for someone is extremely attractive.

However, it is not the one reason that would make a woman fall for you!
Combine it with sex appeal and bingo, THATS what women fall for.

I never realised that calling someone sweet was offensive! None intended to anyone I have. The opposite is true.

The reason some men sometimes fail is that possibly they are attracted to women who are slightly out of their league.

I think Petter is not bad, I dont expect for one minute that just by being sweet to him that he should be interested in me, ok, more's the pity, lol!

If you are putting yourself out, and getting nothing in return, for heavens sake stop, or you'll do your head in

I've been brought up that, as a blurk, you should always be chivalrous..... I do it naturally, but when I was playing (at) the dating game - about 12yrs ago now (I'm now married), it used to really pi$$ me off to do all the chasing, acting nice etc, for the girl to bomb you out and cop off with the disco ****-head!!! I went through a stage of not even bothering - I took on the attitude "why should I even bother, the girl won't appreciate it" I got really resentful of the w@anker blokes, but thankfully, never became one - I'd have never met my wife now (and subsequent daughter!)

A mate of mine still treats women the same (and he's married) "Buy a woman a pair of shoes, and she'll only use 'em to walk out on you!"

In answer to your question <climbs off soapbox>, chivalry is NOT dead, it's just dying. most of the people on here are on average, in their 30s. We are the last of a generation who are chivalrous (this also ties in with common sense - most kids/18yr old have had it taken out of them at school )

Let's have a campaign to bring back chilvary!!! ........... and courting!!!

Seriously? Cool Who am I equal to?

I realise women aren't gonna strip off, drop to their knees and start unzipping my pants, just cos I opened a door for them! Mainly cos I have a button fly it would be nice though

I practise good manners for me and no one else. It's the way I want to be and if it makes someone think I'm a **** I don't care and if it makes someone think he's nice then that's nice, but not important.

You should be who you are and I think good manners and chivalry go in your favour. Some girls don't like it but some do..

There is a time for confidence and a time to back down and know when to quit.

So the women are saying confidence is attractive, is the bloke getting the **** kicked out of him because of over confidence attractive? Surely have the intelligence to know when to back down is good.

There is a time for confidence and a time for knowing when (over)confidence would be foolish.

Maybe I will have to challenge everyone all the time and exude fake supreme confidence to get a woman. But thats not me, I'm not interested in conflict and will walk away from a battle when I think it's sensible. Will defend myself when necessary.

So therefore I shall be single upto the day I die because I don't go looking for women, I don't go looking for trouble and I don't try to be something I'm not. I try to weigh up everyones position when I make decisions, but thats not attractive is it. And people wonder why I say women can go jump of a pier and feel bitter towards them. Got fed up with ahh, thats sweet, your nice but.....or just get the blatant **** taken out of me.
