Kevyn,

You say you only need part throttle to accelerate, this sounds to me like you are running lean (underfueling), in which case you could seriously wreck your engine. Get your car checked out on a Rolling road and get your fuelling checked.

I have an Audi 1.8t

If its chipped (not saying if mine is or isnt as its a company car)
then it will keep up with a Scoob.

I know cos I have a bit of fun with Scoobs - I also have a highly modded sti5....

Chipping them and putting Optimax is good - I add Millers as well to the Optimax, so the power is even better.....

Inceidentally the girly also has a Civic Type R and the Audi has no problem keeping up with the Civic as well - all good fun!

Oh
140mph on the motorway can never be an instant ban - its takes a few months to go to court

You'd be looking at a 6month to 1 year ban. If you were caught racing someone at that speed then you'd be looking at a sentence

I know as I've been caught over 130mph - took 5 months to get to caught then I had a long ban... who cares - I've learnt not to drive as fast in the dark and have fitted laser jammers front and rear!

I'm off to APR soon as they have a Christmas sale which mean 25% off all chips. That means 265bhp for my baby for under £400 inc VAT!

julesm,

I think it is running slightly leaner now than before - the exhaust is certainly drier albeit still a dark/charcoal colour (used to be very moist and dripping - ooh er ). What I meant by part throttle accleration was that it was much improved and there was less need to plant my foot to the floor for urgent acceleration.

However, I do intend to get things checked very soon to ensure I protect against engine damage - can't afford another £4K.

Cheers,

Kev

Lets take some stock here! We've got peeps on here claiming a A3 1.8T will keep up with a scooby! Lets not forget that these cars have 180bhp max as standard and a lot have 150 as with the Golf. I'd have been embarrased if I lost a race to the Golf in the VTS, in the scooby I'd take it straight to the garage to ask whats wrong!

A3 is a great car and does of course have a turn of speed but it should be easy enough to keep at bay IMO.

A chipped Ibiza tdi sport would stay with a standard UK turbo from 30-100 and be quicker than a standard WRX over the same increment, and a chipped Audi A3 130tdi shouldn't be far off the same.

Assuming it is a 150 petrol model then engine can produce a lot of power if tinkered with, but as standard is not very quick, certainly not scoob quick around 100.

OK its bad enough for Scooby owners that chipped Audis, SEATs and Skodas can give them a hard time, but now a diesel SEAT Ibiza, this really is terrible news.

Stu-TT, I missed a smiley out. I haven't been called a ***** on the internet for weeks now, I'm really upset.

P.S. I drive an Audi and its got a 1.8T engine. Mind you, you are right that is the sort of thing someone on here might say.

Hold on guys. The argument is that a chipped A3T can stay with an Impreza apart from off the line. This is definately true, but I am talking standard Scoob vs chipped A3T. Bearing in mind the chipped A3T has approx 200bhp, it seems reasonable to me considering it is lighter and FWD.

Handling etc is a different matter.

Again it comes down to the same old thing!! Lack of difference! I've chased loads of Impreza's down Crail when I had the VTS (standard) and the only ones that convincingly streaked away were the ones with over 300bhp.....and andy F's Bearing in mind the VTS has 130 you'll appreciate just how much extra power you need to thump another car. My scooby is massively quicker than my Saxo was but I bet if I raced my old car it'll still only be 1-3 car lengths behing, as would 1.8T's, 330d's, etc. The problem is 1-3 car lengths is actually quite a bit. It works the other way too, a lot of scooby drivers play with say a porka or ferrari and wonder why it didn't dissapear into the horizon.

Agreed Saxo Boy.

The only way you can batter another car is over a huge distance from a standstill.

My Mr2 Turbo with approx 265bhp & 240lbs of torque only slowly does my brother's Fiat 20v Tuurbo Coupe that's standard despite timing a 0-60 of over 1sec quicker and 2secs over a 1/4 mile.

I know what you mean as I have raced VTS's in my S3 and you have to really gun it to put any decent distance between you. With a chipped A3T though you won't even pull away at all unless you are at least chipped. From 60-100 there would be nothing in it. It would come down to who was ready first and who changed gear quicker etc.

I assume you're talking about S3 V 1.8T - if so is that not quite worrying given the price difference!! Mind you the S3 does look the mutts

Well there was a road tsest in auto express a couple of years back and they took a My 00 impreza and a 225TT and they drageed them from the pay tolls and there was nothing innit to 120 mph and then the tt pulled slight when the aerodynamics came into play!

The super chip guy round carlisle has a 130tdi A3 which is running 175 bhp and 300ftlb of torque! ask ian from palmers how long it took him to catch in his sti7 when the diesel went by, in gear excelleration is pretty quick with 300 ftlb in a lightish car!

Saxoboy why do you seem suprised that a 1.8t can keep up with a standard scoob once on the move whebn youve just said your SAXO SUPER CAR would only get trounced by 300bhp scoobs??

nice little car saxo, but on a uphill stretch of dual carriageway had no problem keeping upwith one in my Tdi 130in gear timesa arent to bad you know!

ive had it before when i had my scoob which was chipped when ive given it a foot full and some cars havent dissapeared as quick as you thought they might!

Initially I had this image in my head of scooby V 1.8T side by side from 30-100+mph and I just couldn't figure that. Then I realised that in most cases the audi was probably slipping back but that generally IMO people don't understand that beating a car by 1-2 car lengths is actually quite a lot.

I'm not surprised a 130tdi kept up with a VTS, I was caught with my pants down several times by torquey tdi's. The only time I properly raced one was a 330d off the lights where the Saxo stuck her nose in front....just! Of course in any other test of acceleration other than 0-xxx the 330d would totally destroy the saxo......oh, and still get 45mpg!

Saxo boy LOL!

There is nothing in it between an chipped A3T and S3 from 60-100. Over on Audi-sport.net (sob) we used to have massive arguments because they thought the A3T chipped was faster than the S3. Of course us S3 couldn't accept that - just like you Scoob boys have trouble accepting it!

You want to watch out for the chipped A3T's - they are little whippa snappers!

Got to jump in Here

My TT is to around 260 bhp

My mates scoob was 245 bhp (ppp'd) and off the line he was quicker cos the scoob just hooks up and ***** off, from a rolling start as little as 10 mph there is nothing in it wahtsoever, untill 90 odd where the TT gets it's nose in front and begins to open up a samll gap.

Over the twisties the TT is quicker but then i have spent a lot on the handling and it has the best tires money can buy but thas another story, oh and i am the superior driver, no fuel surge for me

sorry SB

Crail just makes you want to go faster and batter your wallet, youre better off with trackdays and driving courses than getting .2 of a second of a 1/4 mile time, cos come on lets be honest the strip requires little skill, and has no relevance to everyday driving, apart from the odd traffic light grand prix lol

Its all about boys and there toys
