Grandeur? You've clearly misunderstood. I quoted some facts, haven't linked any toyota website as I couldn't find an official one in english. AFAIK 245bhp, 1180kg.
My MR2 is quicker than 98% of other cars on the road, and is losing my nothing like the money of a P1 in depreciation - that's good enough for me.

youve given me what amounts to a guesstimate, and where are your performance figures. Youve wisely sidestepped the other issues i have raised. As for depreciation, how much does a mr2 depreciate by? i seem to remember seeing them go for around £5000 or less for a turbo, around four years ago, a big difference from their factory price im sure. Any new car will depreciate, in fact as it happens percentage wise, the P1 is not a big depreciator if you look at longer term values. And of course depreciation will only matter when you sell the car, which i dont plan on doing anytime soon.

is capable of producing up to 11.8 psi of boost. This
engine produces 200 hp at 6000rpm, and 200lb-ft of torque at
3000rpm in stock form."
And another main site claims 220 bhp, and a blisteringly quick 0-60 time of 6.2 seconds for the non US model.
I say again for the hard of hearing , IMHO the mr2 turbo or non, is not a high performance car in standard form, notwithstanding its obvious real world limitations. i know its cheap and value for money, but thats not the issues im raising.
Keep saving for a Lotus Elise.

Makes me wonder why you're so defensive? I don't see anyone attacking your choice of car - are you trying to justify the considerable extra expense for a marginal performance benefit? I elected to buy the MR2 not because I can't afford the purchase price of a fast scooby, but because I consider the running cost to be excessive and I enjoy the handling of the mid engine layout.
The argument that depreciation only costs you when you sell the car is nonsensical, as even the most basic understanding of economics would have told you.
I'm not going to bicker any more on the subject.

FWIW I've owned a mkI MR2 and now own a V2 STi wagon, so I think I can make comparisons. OK the mkII MR2 range has more power, but it was considered quite a let-down from the mkI on handling.
When I drove an Impreza for the first time (MY02 WRX UK on a test drive) it immediately recalled my MR2's sharpness and responsiveness (excepting the effects of turbo lag on the WRX of course) but it was better. And my STi is way more sharp/responsive than that WRX.
As to grip, there is *no* comparison, wet or dry - the Impreza has it all the way. So I'd say that if someone in a WRX couldn't keep up with someone else in an MR2 its down to differences in driver ability.
For a commuting car I recommend - and used for over 150,000 miles - a Scirocco MkII GTi. They are very chuckable, very safe handling for making progress in give-and-take traffic/weather, economical to insure service and feed, and cheap to buy these days - and if you buy one now you can sell it for the same money in a couple of years, so no depreciation. I did 90-miles each way five days a week on the A12/A414 for nearly two years, and had fun as well.

In anycase you are still ignoring the most hard hitting aspects of my arguement, get on your own mr2 site and ask some searching questions to your moderator as to why the site is so poor.

nutta vaughan, maybe you should have a drive of an MR2 and see what you think (if you haven't already). (You cannot use my car) You will find it very different to a normal car or a P1 i would guess.

Catflap, if you experience 'dull' then you ain't going hard enough!What I think you're responding to here is that the Impreza has such a higher performance envelope that the other cars we've been discussing, that you come up against your own limits (of courage!)and not the car's limits. So you don't experience the hairy events that some lesser cars will give you for a lot smaller down-payment of *****.

an mr2 turbo is quicker on the mororway, the 220bhp models clock 158mph and the 240bhp ones clock 162mph, imprezas aren't as fast as that. a 300bhp mr2 - 0-60mph in 4.2 and that's been proven. you forget that toyota did the mr2 turbo and just kept the performance the same from 90-94, then 94-, subaru kept on doing different models to coincide with different rallying years so the later and special edition scoobies have been extensively modded compared to the standard turbos, the mr2s were only released as standard without all these updates. p1s have about 4-6years extra development on even the later mr2s

could be here all day comparing modded sprint times etc etc. The best example is the base times. Dont know what u mean by clock times, if youre reading speeds from the speedo youre on to a losing arguement. Show me a STOCK mr2 that does 0-60 in 4.6 and a higher speed than 155 mph. Not "clock" times but paper times or PROPERLY recorded times.

they seem to think that the 220 bhp turbo has a top speed of 145, a little shy of your "clock" time. And a 0-60 time as 6.2 for standard car.

I think you'll find this thread started by saying he wanted a cheaper car to run. There is no doubt that scoobies are quick, but there are cars that are damn good out there that are a lot cheaper. If we all wanted to make casualties of other cars we would all buy caterhams, or motorbikes. If you don't think MR2 turbos are fast cars, then you are entitled to your opinion, however... the tubby was brought up as a possible replacement, which you obviously don't agree with. So continue with your saloon that costs 2k insurance, and a ****load on petrol! (2 k insurance..sheesh!!)
