Well you know what I think of scoobs.
I'd rather have the stigma of owning a "Datsun" than put up with all the failings of the impreza.
David, you even said yourself that you want a skyline... guess i could be seeing you at the NTOC meets sometime

well i disagree with some of the above comments i sold my modded scooby for well over £2500 book price because of the mods and i am after a new scooby and i would choose a modded motor over a standed scooby any day! because if i brought a standard one it would be off to the tuners then to the bodyshop and i wouldn't see it for weeks and it would cost me ££££s! so bring on the modded motors!

PS! you have to understand that scoobs are now cheap! and boy racers like me can now get their hands on them so the market has changed! people like me would'nt even look at a standed one but with mods we would be chucking cash at you !!!!

I'm counting on a boy racer buying mine from me.
There are too many 93-95 JDM cars about that i'd never get mine sold to someone sensible ... so .... exhaust, filter and pimp tints will make it a lot easier to offload to someone of the baseball cap wearing fraternity.

Got to admit that basic spec is pretty crap, but all in i am happy with mine, now!
Was happy to start with, but then it hits you, the brakes are not brilliant, neither is the power when you are cruising and you want to put your foot down. FFS a vectra gsi/sri will leave you/keep up with you from 70 upwards.
Personally, i would not buy a second hand scoob that had not been modified. I have been to too many dealers who have "standard" cars with full main dealer service history on them, that are having the engine repaired, because the owner does not have a clue about what is happening under the engine, has been run on normal unleaded and driven hard (which the majority of owners do, just observe them driving them on the road)
Now, a car that does this, squeaks, rattles, etc, etc are pretty poor, but they, they make a very good base for tinkering with.
Doubt my car has lost half its value, just because i have modded it.
FFS i could have it back in standard trim in less than a week, put the original plate on, and you would be no wiser. You would think you were buying a nice FSSH, standard uk wagon for a nice price.
The fact is, you would be buying a car that had been running 340bhp for a long while.
Just shows you, you can be fooled.
I will buy another one, dont know why though, guess its because i have a bug for them. MY03 JDM STi here i come

Mine's "fit for purpose". Admittedly, I did think the brakes were a bit pony, and there's too much body roll, but on the other hand it's just about the best compromise between performance, practicality and price (especially price) I could find.
Given that I'm still on my first set of brake pads at 30k miles, I just don't drive it hard enough. Steve and David will concur, I'm sure

If you (or anyone else for that matter) fancies a Skyline, take a look at Calder motors. Plenty of nice ones there. Especially the white R32 with the carbon bonnet in the "due in" section. drool....

Mine was an easier decision, being a legacy estate, I think it is more solid inside, and obviously has a cavernous boot.
Proper hideaways in the boot for tools, and just a general storage space. Full size spare, air-con, nice and cheap.
I was a bit shocked when I had a good look at Chuck's 22B when fitting his fuel pump, the interior wasn't high quality at all. Not saying mine is, but it was better quality (build).
Still if you want a comfy cruisemobile, buy a Mondeo V6 or Peugeot 3.0 406, both of which I considered. But less fun by far after the mods.
If I was spending more money, the JDM Sti8 looks nice, and I really do fancy a skyline.

I have the upmost respect for David for actually having the ***** to do a lot of things himself rather than paying some con artist garage to sit around having cups of tea at this expense. His spec sounds the bollocks albeit he is a mad man :lol (well i wouldnt have the guts to start cutting up my turbo and inlet manifold anyway) But hes a very talented one and ill definately be coming to him for some bits on my car

I reckon if you can afford to insure/run a scooby youd be mad to buy a uk turbo with about as much bhp as a clapped out nissan micra when you could pick up a decent import with higher spec, more bhp and a lot more prestige.

The interior is a joke, I mean, the early ones didn't even have a frigging clock!
Brakes are poo.
Suspension seemed fantastic to me when I first got it, compared to the soft set-up on the Lexus, but yeah, it does roll too much and there's too much understeer.
Everything else seems average on it, which you'd expect for an average Jap saloon car.
But, for the money there's not much else to choose from. There's a reason why Porsche's etc are more expensive

I'm sure there are better cars to take as a basis for modifying, but I'm having quite a bit of fun (and sometimes less fun) in the process.
Resale value ? Pah. Not selling anyway.
Maybe I should do a garage sale though, I always thought I'd keep al that stuff to bring the car back to standard, but I've given up on that idea now.

They're crap, they understeer, the engine has a narrow powerband, but hey: they're still better than most other cars, and better than ANY other car for the money!

Just an observation, but there are a lot of scooby fans in here that seem to think that Subaru is a Japanese motor manufacturer!
The reason why the build quality is ****e is beacuse Subaru are Korean!
