Agreed Paul, I love cars, but I wouldn't spend all my disposable on them by any stretch... my income has doubled since I got the Scoob new 2 years ago (just been on the steepest gradient of income improvement that I will see in my whole career - note that only about 10% of my income is from ECU mapping), but apart from occasional doubts, I am still planning to keep it. Just because I could go and buy a 911 or a (used ) Ferrari doesn't mean I will. Besides the Scooby is in the cheap phase now it's depreciated and I & T-uk do most of the servicing. I am as much a cheapskate as anyone - why do you think I spend hours soldering together little circuits for £5 instead of spending £100 in the shops on them and playing with boost controllers all the time that cost £25. The other nice thing is knowing a lot about the car you own... would have to start again if I got something else. There is more to life than money, and certainly more than cars (I try and remind myself of the latter in particular, working occasional silly hours reminds me of the former and I would rather earn less and work less hours).

actually having a flash car can be a disadvantage, depending on the field you work in. The other hut in my business was a bit concerned about me getting the STi, as he thought clients would get the impression that were making a mint - ie ripping them off. We used to both drive mondeos. However, not that many people know what the impreza is, and it isn't a label car like a BM, Jag or Merc.

interesting topic but in the nothern reaches of cumbria (where men are men and some sheep live in fear)
wages arent high i employ good salesmen on £13-15K per year warehouse &distribution on £11k if i advertise for staff i wo uld have 50-80 quality applicants who want to work for that sort of money.as you are rolling on the floor laughing at this house prices are the biggest in the equation one member of staff 3 bedroomed semi ok area £30k
another end terraced big house £47k
another big semi (posh area) £90k
another (anon) big mansion top area - paid for £260k parking for 7 scoobs!!
factory workers are lucky to get £20k doctors &other professionals are lucky to get £80k maybe cos our computers run on coal thats why there is no demand for £100+ it men up north every one wants to be a fire fighter !!!!!!

Question

Rump, pardon??

You must net £7.5k per month if 60k tax is 40% of 150k.

Anyone who cannot live comfortably on £7.5k per month is either doing their sums wrongly or spending too much on booze and hookers on the quiet...!

An Impreza is not the fastest or best car in the world ever. Sorry. If I was earning over £100K per year, I wouldn't be driving a Scoob. Feel bad about that, but there you go. Do Vanquish's have a forum?
Sorry to spoil a perfectly formed POV, but I have met a guy who owns a DB7 and a P1 (he's a friend of a fellow scoob owner, whose wedding I was at). We were talking about Imprezas, and he said that whilst the Aston was a superb car, the Scoob is far more practical and fun day-to-day, which is why he drives it more.

He also pointed out that the Aston costing something like 5 times as much as the P1 meant that it wasn't exactly value-for-money.

Damn, damn, damn, damn and damn. I'm almost agreeing with MarkO.

The thing about owning a Scoob is that i can get it serviced, mod it, park it anywhere, do whatever i want with it, without worrying about the depreciation and other costs involved with "exotica".

It might not be the fastest, no, but it's right up there, and provides enough driving involvement to make a huge expenditure on a car unnecessary, imo.

Sorry, but that's my opinion, and as I'm sure you'll both agree, I am entitled to it.

There ARE other cars you can park anywhere, are cheapish to run, and depreciate LESS than an Impreza. I myself would of course like to drive one, but then I don't earn anywhere near £100K p.a.

I do far more work than i've ever done and am set to earn 20-30k less than last year due to the downturn in the IT market and the pathetic margins on selling the kit. I mean would you sell an ipod from 280 to make 9 quid ? A PowerMac G4 for less than 1% profit ? It sucks at the moment, its just a big price war with everyone wanting everything for nothing. I'll be lucky to crack 40k this year and I've had to adjust my lifestyle accordingly which I hate as I have the think about what I buy now.

Bunch of ****. Just hope next year is better, god knows I'm trying to make it happen rather than waiting for it !
