Fair enough a good cossie does look well ( although i do prefer it without the whale tail ), but there are very few good ones around, especially if you are buying locally. Ive seen a few, and you really wouldnt want to own them, let alone pay up to £15k for them. Even some I have seen for around £10k, which here is pretty cheap, IMO wouldnt have been worht half that. Some have been re-shelled, others just had half replaced ( like wing, door, qtr panel....etc etc ). One of the ones my mate had , was very good, genuine low milage, met blue, and all orignal, buth when he sold it, it went down south. Ive seen other low milage ( LMFAO ) cars, but somehow I dont think they were that low.
If you have the money to spend, do look for a good one, dont just buy it beacause its the only one you can easily get. There are far too many sh1tters around. Get an RAC inspection done, as they can tell whether panels have been painted or replaced with their paint depth guage. If you get a good one, then you could keep it for a while, and probably not lose much money on it, if any.
Assuming it doesnt get stolen of course.
Wonder what u will think when you race your first subaru in it though...cos I know what will happen if its me

Come on! You're letting me down! Co55ie, only 2 posts on a Scooby v cossie thread? You're letting them off lightly, too much Christmas spirit
There has to a be a few more LMFAO before this one dies! I forgot to put in a number for edited posts too...

I just got a drive in a 93 cossie lux model this morning. It has the bigger turbo fitted and is chipped.....it's an ex ford demonstrator and had another 'old' man for its second owner. I can honestly say that it goes right and well....really puts you into the seat at 3500rpm and pulls well in 5th from low down.....£13500 would lift it (62,000 miles FSH etc) , what about that??

<<only saw a few scoob ON the track at donno (loads parked up watching) on sundy, yet loads of cozzys having a go>>
That's because eveyone knows Scoobs go pop and drop their guts when you put them on the track!

that price is about right mate.........when/if you buy it get it to Turbosystems and checked over/set up incase it hasnt had the pump....they will be able to tell you and advise if needs be.....

Price sounds good I would also check that the front CAT has been removed as they are prone to melting if the car has been chipped. I would guess that both the fuel pump and CAT have been done though but well worth checking. Good luck with car if you ge it. You won't be dissappointed if you get a good'un

Heres my advice. I'm allowed to give you advice because I have owned a 370bhp big turbo esc cos and currently own a STi5 Type R with stainless exhaust (approx 310 bhp).
This is it in its simplest form:
Acceleration = Scoob
Top end = Scoob
Handling = Difficult to say, cossy had 18s, low prof tyres, konis, GGR springs and scoob is standard so they are about the same.
Ability to turn heads = Cossy - but probably coz of subaru gold painted rondells and goodyear F1 rubber bands.
Sound = Scoob - nothing sounds better than a flat 4 (well maybe a flat 6/V8 etc.)
Goes bang when it gets bored = Cossy - I spent more money on CV joints and drive shafts than I did in petrol (bu115hit, but it was a lot of money)
More lag than a plumbers merchant = Cossy - feels great when you plant it in 5th but will cause pain when power arrives half way round a bend (trust me)
Depreciation - Scoob - won't be worth a bean by its 9th birthday, cossy still made me £13,000 with two worn CV joints and an annoying dent in wing.
So there you go, its only my opinion but I did tend to love the cossy despite its faults more than I love the scoob. I think it needs to have some prezzies bought for it, then I might change my mind.

Cheers mate...decent reply
As i said, my type-r had awseome acceleration, but the cossie i drive wouldn't have been far off...if not the same!
My scooby depreciated about £2500 since march this year, which is a massive pain in the ****......and i know the cossie would hold it's money better, but would the cossie not have to be taken care of more than the scoob...... I like'd to thrash the scooby round back roads(i'm from the country)....and i don't think the cossie would be up for it..more of a drive round town car, which is probably a better idea in the long run anyway!!
I'm really stuck on what to do here arrgh!!
The only thing putting me off this one, is that there are a few small dints in the passenger door and 1/4 panel.....would these bugger up the paint work if being pulled out?? Other than that the car is mint (back seat never sat in!!)

Price doesnt sound too bad ( for a 9 year old car ..lol ) but again, if it is as genuine as it is claimed, then it should hold its value. But after 60,000 miles, even a std one would almost be due a head gasket. More so a 'chipped' verison.
It is worth noting what somone else said about driveshafts and CV joints. A lowered escort will eat them. Apparently a 2.9 4x4 sierra shaft is slightly longer ( drivers side mostly, but both look same ) which should remedy the problem, but not guranteed.
18's may look good, but they drive terrible, tramlining, and terrible over bumps, which as you are well aware, are the main make up of our roads here.
Still advise a HPI check, and an RAC report. The panel depth guage is a very useful tool. Ive seen some cars that really look fantastic, but when you see their report, it would scare you. Theres a Silver Evo 6 somehwere, that is very scary. It had a whole side replaced, and a roof, along with some frontal parts. This car looked like new, all over. It will tell if a panel has just been painted, or a panel replaced. Obviously the former isnt too worrying.
As for small dents, there are a few people locally who can remove most of them without disturbing the paint, Dents away is one, but there are others.

kungfu - you said it had been chipped....what stage chip...1 or 3?
co55ie I think it would be quite difficult to check whether it has an uprated fuel pump, because it is situated in the fuel tank. Also don't you mean, the CATS - they have a pre-cat and a 2 main cats
As to £1500 - thats a bit excessive isn't it??? Motorsport Developments do a Stage 3 chip and uprated fuel pump for £800 fitted - plus between £25 and £70 for decent plugs if you don't already have them

Not too sure on the chip mate, although i presume it is a stage 1 as it was put on the car as a demonstrator by ford!!
The exhaust and suspension are all standard..as with the wheels, i think i will contact the rac to do a report on it next week.
As for the drives etc... i will only be using it as a 'weekend' car, so there shouldn't be too many miles going on the car.

Ford put a chip on one of their cars???? Doesnt sound likely. If suspension and ride height is std, then driveshafts should be OK.
From time to time you do get a few of them for sale here. A friend, who owned one works for a place, that has had quite a few thru their doors. Some good, some bad. They would vary between £13-16k depending on condition etc. They also had some cars in, that they could not sell, due to them being an RAC approved dealer. Say no more The cars had to be passed on to someone to sell privately.
Its surprising the amount of cars they had, that either went back to England, or down south, although a few were sold locally.
If you need a de-cat pipe for the car, im pretty sure I have one somewhere...just havent seen it for a year or so, but dont re-call throwing it out

i wouldn't rule out lyndsy's (ford) putting a chip on the car...if it was a demonstrator, then by putting a chip on, it would intise people round here to buy one!! I know they would do it, as tractor's that are demonstrators are usually screwed out at the pump to offer more power.....cheers about the de-cat, where about are you in belfast mate?
#53
If you are gonna get rid of the cats - you are well advised to buy a whole new exhaust system - ie Mongoose. Dont go down the road of just replacing pipes whatever you do!!
