Had both the 16v and Williams Clio and loved them to bits. If it had 4 doors I would still have the Williams, but getting a kids seat in and out of a 2 door car is a pain in the neck! Wonder what you can pick one up for now? Nice occasional car to add to the stable.

Had a R5 Turbo for 3 years - loved it until it got stolen....
Had Clio Willaims Mk1 - owned for 2 1/2 years, loved it, people were always asking for drives in it etc.
Also owned both Mk1 & Mk2 Uno Turbos - both were fast, but the handling was s**t !

For a while I was lucky, had the scoob and....a civic type 'R' for wheel spins... got rid of the scoob now in anticipation of the 2003 model when it comes out.......so wheel spins are us for the next couple of months...and I get 26 MPG now instead of 16... although the cost of tyres in phenomenol !!!

mutant matt - i really have got my rose tinted specs on! no i really have, they are my spare pair as my "sven's" as they are known broke at the weekend 
and the old tints are the only spares 
205 gti - still have it as discussed previously with James (whitfield) et al.
such an involving little car - bring on the mi 16 engine a mate has squirreled away in his scrap yard for me

This is a real emotional subject here isn't it!!!!!!
Most of us on here have started at the bottom and worked our way up, so some form of 80's - 90's "hot hatch" is in the list of cars owned and now hankered after.
I had this feeling after owning 6 Imprezas in succession and found myself gazing at Clio's and 205's etc.
So I went and did the deed and bought myself a Clio Cup, changed the seats, put a straight through exhaust system on (& you think Impreza's are loud!!!!!!) and putting on 17" wheels. It's fantastic, fun and really involving, especially at it has 172 p.s, no traction control and no ABS. You need to have your wits about you more than driving in the Impreza and will give an un-modded Impreza a good run for it's money.

I'm with the 205's. had the Mi16 for 3 years, fitted it my self from the 8v, still got the wiring diagram some where, 185bhp fun fun fun....traded for a 96 turbo, now modded. Took me a while to get the hang of 4 wheel drive 'thing'.
The bint has a CTR, this allows me to endulge in hot hatch.....when she lets me.... the CTR needs Induction and exhaust mods, its choked on accleration, and u are forever ferking changing gear..

Had 2x 205 GTIs, loved both. Well, actually the second was a bit manic, I swear a previous owner had shortened the throttle cable. Can attest to approaching a hedge at a rapid rate due to understeer and an unexpected left-hander.
Thing that makes me smile is the generally snobby attitude of this board to Nova and Saxo drivers, and then all of us harking back to the good old days when we were.. um..

I'm still conviced that my williams (180 bhp + a fantastic suspensionset up) was faster that my actual scoob on very tricky roads..
the most fantastic steering response ever tasted.

I'm sure I've got this all wrong.
I went from having a UR quattro Turbo (84 era) to a MY94 Impreza which I used in hillclimb / sprints to a 205 1.9 GTi Pug. Admittedly the 205 isn't exactly standard although our regs don't allow us to change to the Mi16 engine
Most of ya have done this the other way round !

Went from a Pug 106 Rallye ...the screaming 1.3 version...not as fast in a straight line as the scoob, but sooo much more fun on the twisty stuff...made me hate the scoob for the first few weeks..but soon started to enjoy it. :-)

Billy suspension, quick rack, uprated brakes and Yoko A038s - damn that thing handled - **** slow in a straight line but could carry more speed through the corners than either of my Scoobs. Till you hit a bump then it was anyones guess where you'd end up
Then there was the MK2 XR2 -(Ford boy at heart)
sorted head, cam, exhaust, twin downdrafts and 15" alloys (was 1986 so was ahead of me time) - was great until the piston decided to go through the block rather than up and down.
Then there was the Chevette HS
Shame it was a bag of cr4p - looked and sounded cool with twin 48s tho. inside wa spretty cool till I let off the plumbed in fire extinguisher by mistake lol.
Matt- think Martin would disagree about 205s grip - didn't seem to be holding too many cars up at Bedford

I was dreading letting my modified 205 GTi go once I'd got the Scooby, not only had alot of money gone into making it mine, but there's a special connection with the first car you actually own I think.
As luck would have it, Mum had fallen in love with it too and decided to buy it off me!! It's 200 odd miles away now, but when I pop back down to see my parents, I get to visit and play with the car too.
Which is nice!

205Gti RIP. Would still have it if the tosser in the Punto, who had no insurance, hadn't come out of a giveway sign on a busy street without stopping or looking left or right.
I still want another, even with having the scoob. I'd have one for track use if I could afford. Great car.

Astra 2.0 GTE 8v, Spax all round, strut brace, Big Bore 4, K&N57i and a heavy pair of boots
Got this straight after a 1.3 Astra and on the test drive thought it was the fastest car in the World!! My Dad showed me how to drive it properly and "****" was said quite a lot. Got rid of it 4 1/2 years later, by which time I had learnt how to get it sideways round every corner and roundabout I came across!! Then got a BMW 320i E36 (BOO! I hear you all say), had 17"s with cr@p tyres, thought about changing for better tyres but had sooo much fun going sideways I kept them on!
Now got MY02 WRX, very fast, great round corners but a lot more serious, if this thing slides it's more of a problem than fun due to the higher speeds. Love it to bits but wish I had a 'fun' car for track days and general mucking about in

Ahh *goes all misty eyed* what an entertaining car. Only car I ever had two of. A silver one and one in Sorrento green that looked black in all but bright sunlight - I think they were quite rare.
The green one finished up with a magnex exhaust, K&N etc. but I think I preferred it standard. It was written off about a week after I part exed it Criminal.

i cannot believe not one mention yet of what will always be the best front wheel drive hatch...series one escort rs turbo...in my opinion anyway...had most other hatches gte 16v's,205gti's,etc,but for me series one ,awesome car still love em!!!!anyone else vote 'em number one ??

series one is phat - not the typical ford shed - abused like all hot hatches sadly - i would have one as a classic, true motor sport image!
the pug lives on though - it will be forever in my heart. i will have one til i die! other cars come and go, but those little beauts taught me to drive so i will always stay faithful.
r5 turbo i have never driven, however i would love to own one so as i could have a brace of 80's french fancy's!

My pug 205 1-9er was miami blue, with no sunroof, j reg, mint condition, I got it as standard, but played with it a little, by adding a Magnex manifold and full system, grp n bushes, k & n 57i, for all my sins a superchip and bigger brakes, with 160 bhp - boy did it go.
One of the higlights of owning it was coming back from Nothallerton having had it chipped. We went the long scenic route, going as fast as I dared, went over a brow of a hill, to find the road wasn't there anymore! Braked hard - oh shoot no brakes, then proceeded sideways for 50 yards stopping inches from a fence!
Ahhh those were the days!!! 
What I loved about it was you could drive it 80-100 percent 80-100% of the time, yeah it would bite you sometimes, but woah was it fun! Having owned 2 scoobs, a corrado, integra type r, puma and various other tools I still rank it as number 3 out of 9 cars Ive owned, you probably can guess what the tip 2 are, but I'd have another 205 GTI tomorrow if I could find the right one!
