Future at Bedford Autodrome
#31
It is JP, and as someone who has followed his involvement with the Formula Palmer Audi series, (raced many times on the same bill with the Esprit) and the PR side of that, which was a major part of the series, i find the three contributions to this board to be contradictory to everything i thought i knew about him.
I am not impressed with his attitude and i am not impressed with his complete disregard for the facts in terms of why people had problems at bedford on the 30th.

John how do you know it is JP?
Is the e-mail address visible to moderators?
If it is him then I am surprised and very disappointed that SUbaru Imprezas have been blanket banned due to an SIDC day that went bad due to the Bedford Autodrome changing the noise levels.
Does that mean every marque of car that was there is going to be banned, if I remember from the thread it wasn't just Impreza drivers that were complaining about the variable nopise limits!

As John says,
It is JP as it is the same user account as the one he used to post on the Bedford Thread
His above stance had to be expected though. If he wasn't willing to accept that he can't change the noise limits on a whim, whenever he feels like it, regardless of what he has contractually agreed to, he was always just going to ban people who argued with him about it.

Mr Palmer,
Forgive me if you have been there, but, if not, please would you consider popping over to http://bbs.sidc.co.uk/. This is the BBS for the SIDC, and therefore I feel you should repost the above on their BBS. Please forgive me if this sounds rude, it is not aimed to be, I am just trying to point out that Scoobynet is NOT the SIDC, yes, many SIDC members do post on Scoobynet, but Scoobynet is in no way affiliated with the SIDC.
Also, could you confirm that your decision to disallow the SIDC from using BA does NOT extent to members of Scoobynet? ie; If, for example a member of Scoobynet wished to organise a trackday at BA would you allow it? I'm not sure on the rules and regulations as to whether and individual can organise a trackday, so forgive my ignorance.

So again every marque of car that was there should be banned and not just Imprezas. I mean as a member of Scoobynet and not the SIDC I have just been caught by the blanket ban!

This is indeed a shame
Not all the people who went to the event @ BA posted here. Those, the majority, who passed the tests had an enjoyable day & have had nothing to gripe about. They have not been the vociferous ones for obvious reasons.
Also, this is not the SIDC bbs, just Scoobynet, which contains a wide variety of people and interests, so possibly a bit unfair that the SIDC are penalised for all the postings on this BBS.
However, it is, of course, your company and venue, so you have the say as to whether SIDC is welcome or not. I would ask that you might reconsider your decision over time and prehaps you might see fit in the future to allow the SIDC back.

I dont know 100%, which is why i have just mailed Simon to see if he can confirm this for me. Based on his language and the information posted previously, i would be surprised if it isnt though.
Just one comment, Dave T-S, as you know you are a mate and i have a lot of respect for you, but you are wrong on this about just a few spoiling it for many. You had to be there to see the efforts people made on the day to comply with the regulations, and the then dropped limits. This was not a case of a few naughty people making things dificult for everyone else, very much the oposite was true.

But if JP did not change his stance at all, surely we would have all suffered, by not even getting on track at all. He is paid to make decisions like this, and one which I think he called right.
JP made the choice to;
Either cancel the whole day, or;
Reduce the noise level and let the remaining people continue to run, which I am glad he did.

Perhaps if the SIDC had been allowed to discuss this in private with PalmerSport without the usual public witch hunt or more extreme comments on the original thread then the ban might not have happened....I seem to remember a request from Lee or John not to prejudge the refund issue for example.
Note, I am not criticising anybody, and I think there were some genuine cases regarding failing the noise test.
The power of the internet, eh?

Good point there Mr T-S. Tis part of the reason I mentioned that JP should post this on the SIDC BBS as that is where it belongs IMHO. Not on here.
Well, who's gonna organise a TD at Bedders and see if it's allowed when Scoobynet is mentioned? <flame suit on!>

Cross posted with you. Note I said above there appeared to be some genuine hardship cases.
No, I wasn't there, but i've driven at Bedford before and seen what some people do when they go by the drive by noise meter. That's bending the rules. Regarding changing the rules on the day, I can't comment

Davy Boy...that is not the point that is being argued, its the (intial) lack of refund and the attitude of the marshals / JP that has been in question. JohnF had it bang on the nail with his first post in this thread. I would'nt use Bedford now if you paid me, AND my tire bill out of principle. Track days are all about enthusiasts, who are very valuable customers, and who use a lot of word of mouth recommendations, not only within their marque, but the marques of others (as seen on this very board).
I know which circuit I will be recommending people avoid. A very very sad situation and a particularly blameless and condescending attitude from Mr. Palmer, who until now I had a fair amount of respect for.

I have no intention of being accused of defrauding anyone. Those who failed noise tests at any level will receive refunds.
Oh, and perhaps an apology for changing the limits.
A little common courtesy as opposed to accusations of "cheating" would have gone a long way.
Still, its JP's pram - so he can throw his toys out if he wants....

If you decide to post on a public BBS, you cant expect everyone to roll over, some people will question what is being said by the person, no matter who they are. (thank god)
If you cant accept that you will be questioned or critisised, you should not post on a Public BBS.

I'm not a SIDC member I posted on that thread because I was there and i saw what a shambles it was.

Did think it would have been JP himself, as I would have thought Simon would have contacted whoever registered the email address, espeically given the nature for JP posting on here.

Sorry to hear that JF, was hoping it was a fake ID in some ways
Undeserved, especially towards the SIDC as well as to the genuine car enthousiasts who post on here, as well as to Scoobynet in general.

I can confirm that the post is from Jonathan, I had a twenty minute conversation with him before he posted.
I have nothing further to add and await the outcome of the vote in True Grip.

I'm glad the decision was taken not to welcome the SIDC back to Bedford. After all this i'm not sure the SIDC would want to go to a venue that. (IMHO)
1. Apparently broke a binding contract.
2. AFIK Refused to apologise to those inconvienced by that decision.
3. Seemingly, only publically Offered refunds after a fuss was made.
4. Allegedly tried to blame a few people who mostly fell victim to the apparent breach of contract.
5. Seemingly Banned the SIDC on the basis of complaints on a non SIDC BBS
6. Apparently Banned non members of the SIDC, on the assumption that they were part of the same club
As someone else said, it's JP's loss. No doubt those non SIDC member cars who were banned will then go and spread the word on their overall treatment to thier own car clubs.
If this can happen to Impreza's then it can happen to EVO's, Skyline's, VW's, Porsche's etc.
So I would suggest all those affected by this decision go and spread the factual, non emotve word to all the other car clubs and let them know it could be them next. Then maybe, just maybe those who want to do car club based track days will get some good service.
Customers can always go elsewhere, Supplier's can't, just a thought.

From what I'm reading, does a SIDC owners Impreza sound louder than a Scoobynet owners Impreza.......come on get a grip here.
An Impreza is an Impreza, regardless of who drives it. So if organisation X books an event and organisation Y book a similar event (both of whom have the same marque of car) there are different rules regarding noise?

Ironic that some of those that have been most loud in their criticism of the SIDC at every turn and in fact some of whom have clearly no interest in the club for the "club's" sake but only as a route to track days have now manged to get the club banned from a circuit.
I'm astonished that any member of the committee even has the will to turn a PC on and look at Scoobynet - let alone put anymore effort into the club.

Oh, and anyone know if any other clubs have faced this type of situation at BA? eg; RSOC, GTR, MLR? Just wondering, as I would have thought there would have been a similar vocal outcry from them as well if the same happened.
At the end of the day, I suspect that the Track day business is a very small part of PalmerSport's overall business so don't kid yourself that JP will loose any sleep over loosing some of this business.

Heh heh. Most amusing. The Scoobynet muppet collective manage to spoil the party for everyone. Frankly, the words "just" and "desserts" springs to mind.
I hope that any of the non-Scoobynet SIDC members who now lose out because of this <scoobynet>take a baseball bat to the idiots who let things go this far</usual rubbish>
