Standard RB5 Specification OTR £24,995:-
according to my RB5 brochure
218PS @ 5600rpm and 290Nm torque @ 4000rpm
- Cat 1 alarm/immobiliser
- Blue steel metalic body colour (colour code 86F which is "cool" -grey on the STi imports)
- Fully colour-coded exterior (i.e. door mirrors, door handles, side skirts, front & rear under-spoilers, driving lamp covers)
- Blue 'Alcantara' and suede-effect interior trim, with black 'jersey' surround on seats
- Special graphite trim for the centre console
- Air con
- Special 'Speedline' 17in, 6 spoke, alloy wheels in 'pewter' colour with Pirelli 'P Zero' 205/45 ZR17 tyres
- PIAA front driving light conversion for the fog lights
- Prodrive quickshift (with leather covered gear **** and handbrake)
- Roof-mounted map reading lamps
- Special, RB5 side and rear decals (and also on driving light covers)
- Special, RB5 embossed carpet mats
- Special, RB5 interior-mounted, numbered plaque "Limited Edition" only 444 available!
- Price on the road £24,995 excluding the WR Sport package.
WR Sport Performance Package:-
- Prodrive High wing (similar to the new STi 5 but with the brake light on the wing rather than boot lid)
- New ECU, exaust, and air filter
- Inter-cooler piping
Price on the road £27,545 including the WR Sport package.
Rather than concentrating on unusable top end power the Performance Package developes most of its benefit in the all important mid-range where it is in its element for over taking and real world driving.
N.B. the WR Sport Performance Package does not include Suspension Kit, which should be ordered separately and fitted at your dealership.
The RB5 has been awarded a number of times and won quite a few head to head road car tests in various magaazines. The main characteristic that wins people over is the handling and EVO pronounced mid 99 that the RB5 was the best handling Impreza ever. It should be noted though that basically under the Steel Blue paintwork the RB5 is an MY99 with solid rear bulkhead & 17in wheels. There is effectively no difference in the suspension department.
The other confusion lays with many magazines only testing and thus concluding the RB5 comes with the performance pack as standard which is not the case. Remember that this was an option and again any MY99 or MY00 can have exactly the same Prodrive Performance Pack fitted.
not sure if gear ratios r different, here are the RB5's (according to brochure)
1st - 3.454
2nd - 1.947
3rd - 1.366
4th - 0.972
5th - 0.738
Reverse - 3.333
Final reduction gear ratio: front axle 3.900 / rear axle 3.545
i dont know wot a standard MY99 came with so i cant compare

I thought that i read some where that there had been some tweaking in the engine to increase torque more and it had a larger turbo
But at the end of the day, the RB5 wasnt meant to be some super car like the 22B or the P1, it was a limited edition to celebrate Richard Burn's return to the SWRT after he became the British Rally Champion in 1993.
only a limited number was made and the individually numbered plaque reinforced this rarity.
Its like the Escort Cosworth 'Monte Carlo', it was all just cosmetics and a numbered plaque and the limited number that made it 'special' to celebrate after its first win in the WRC.

TBMeech,
The STIV 5 as I think John Felstead (could be wrong) had some pics with his rear seat removed when he installed a Cusco rear strut. His car had the very same brace if I'm not mistaken.
I've had my back seat off and it's just a straight bar bolted across the bulkhead. Ok, to be exact it has some bends to sit it back a bit.
You can see for yourself here:-

Stefan I was under the impresion that PPP all had 240bhp/ish regardless what year it was ? just that the bhp was achieved in different ways ?
Just out of intrest mine had 240bhp 241ft/lb torque at a recent rolling road session.

So what are the differences between the STI and UK bodies? The only ones I can think of are that the STI aerial is on the rear wing instead of the roof, and that the STI has a rear windscreen wiper. Also I believe that the wiring looms are different.
Does the RB5 have these differences from an MY99?

nope - RB5 aerial is on the roof and no rear wiper. just a bloody annoying solid bulkhead that stops you getting anything big in the car. off to buy myself roofbars at lunchtime!

RB170 & ChrisP,
When you talk about a solid rear-bulkhead, what exactly do you mean? and what cars do you both have?
That pic is from an RB5, so all of them should look the same.
Andy, yes you are right they have the same quoted torque figures, but the 99+ used a phase-2 engine, so the ECU is different. A box std 99 with just an air-filter and zorts have reach 235bhp on rolling roads and 247+ with the full PPP.

Here's John's original post showing the lower strut brace
http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/threa...hreadid=129685
Interesting that in that post there's mention of Prodrive tweaking cars and adding the solid bulkhead. So, what exactly is the bulkhead? is it just the lower strut brace or is it the metal body that runs along the top of the seats?
I've had all the back seats out of the car and (apart from the lower strut) I can't see why you couldn't have folding seats in these cars
