DavyboyNobody said anything about it being a good track car (though I don't think it is a bad one) but Chris said it spins easily on track, which I think a lot of owners do not agree with.

you lost the plot their mate.

he has clearly slated that he doesn't like the car. there are problems with the rear struts (well documented) and he is unhappy about having to spend 2000 on a performance package that he feels should come as standard.

Chris is perfectly entitled to his opinions, as is everyone else.
However there is a difference between expressing your opinion and flaming someone because they have the temerity to disagree with you.

I happen to disagree with him, my STI-7 is miles better in every respect(except for boot space) than my PPP'd MY00 5 door. But since Chris has traded it in, someone else will get the pleasure of owning and driving it.

I don't want the thread locked, but if this incessent counter productive behavoir continues i'll 'do a (Mr) Palmer' and lock the thread

I haven't read all the replies yet, but just to add a little more..
I never said thet the Sti was slow on the track, quite the opposite, at Bedford I could out brake and out corner much more exotic machinery including a Porsche GT3, it lapped quicker than most elises. What I have said is it was boring, I had three laps in my mates Supra Twin Turbo and had more fun in three laps than the whole day in the Scoob.

As for the depreciation, if the rumour from my dealer is true that the new Sti is going to be pitched around £23K it makes a Type UK worth about £17K after christmas, I have decuded to cut and run while I can still aford to change to something decent (Get ready for the insults but I have actially bought a C-Class Merc, fully specced inc Sat Nav and I carn't wait till Monday). The depreciation is a result of these cars becoming "fashion Commodities" Manufacturers must make changes each year to ensure that enthusiasts change there cars on a regular basis just to keep up. I am not against this, I have just learnt my lesson and will not for the forseeable future be going down the Rally replica route again.

Other reasons for changing:-
Wife gets lots of hassle when driving it to the point she no longer feels safe.

Twice I have been driven at in or around Bham by people who I believe were trying to have a small accident in order to get me out the car. (+ a guy was shot in the leg for his scoob a few miles for where I live)

It is a shame that I lost total interest in this car. My old Turbo estate was a cracking car that I enjoyed for 3 years trouble free hard motoring. I even considered finding a good example of a late Turbo to keep for weekends.

Its time to move On.....

Chris - as a fellow Brummie I understand your predicament. It's a difficult place to enjoy an STi to its full potential as so many places are at gridlock. I've got the same misgivings about pottering around, or letting my wife potter around, this city of shame in a car that the gangsta-type people love. That's the reason I may eventually part with my beloved (car, not wife) and not that it's a second-rate car. Happy motoring.

Chris I can understand where you are coming from, however I think it is more the case that the car no longer suits you, which is fair enough. All new cars depreciate these days at a huge rate, take your fully loaded merc back in six months and find out how much it is worth, be prepared to be shocked I know my dad was with his trade in price!
If the new Sti8 is only £23,000 this is great news! as I will not have to stomp up the £27,000 + this one cost next time....swings and roundabouts really.
Best of luck with the new motor, they are well put together those Mercs but sorry to say... and yes I've got one as a second car...(far more civilised for long runs up the motorways).. they are not drivers cars.......unless you have an AMG sticker on the back of yours that is.

£23000 for a MY03 STi????

I find that hard to believe - the WRX would therefore need to drop to about £18-19K. I know you can get a MY02 WRX for that at the moment, but I thought that was just to get ride of the excess stock before next year. Apparently, for some strange reason the WRX hasn't sold as well as expected !!!!

Local dealer told me that the new car would be at least the same price as the MY02 and would probably be more expensive.

I suspect the price of ther new MY03 STI will be the same as the current Prodrive model if not more.
Why, well if you think about it the STI UK Prodives went off the shelf faster than a quick thing from the land of quick.
Do you think IM would be so stupid in pricing the new model cheaper when they had no problems in getting rid of the MY02 STI's????
I'll be very surprised if they do but I think not!

There is more competition now,the current crop of front drive hot hatches are narrowing the gap between them and the WRX, hence I think the WRX will be pitched to compete exactly with the Focus RS. This means £23 -£24K for a Sti is a posibility also I think if they pitch it too close to the Evo VIII they will lose sales in that direction. Again going back to the reasons why I have sold my Sti, of which there are many, it is alittle compromised, just alittle to hard and all or nothing to drive every day (especially when you do town driving all day veryday) and not special enough to leave in the garage for track days and weekends.

EVO VII's were never official UK cars, even the Ralliart ones were imports of some description, just sanctioned by Misubishi. As I read it Mitsubishi are going to bring in the whole range of high performance cars to the UK officially and Type approved, therefore if you cut out the importer middlemen (inc. the old Ralliart)the price should fall and you will see alot more cars.

Pile of pants- you're definately talking about a bloody Aga. My wifes had the performance upgrade from solid fuel to gas. It can't cook, it can't heat and it uses too much fuel.

Just like the Scooby though logic doesn't come into it. She loves her AGA and won't admit its crap and I love my Scooby even if some of the criticisms are correct.

Wait till you have dealings with Merc garages though.
